i might make one suggestion for a quick fun thing to add in. In playing the game i've often designed a ship i would designate as military flagship. Cool design, and i'd only build one of that type. But there's no real difference with that ship than any other. So in my modding of the game, i made a flagship module, which was basically a support module that had a negative hull space value. I tied that to the constructor script so you couldn't have more than one per ship, and set it'

Simply put, Brad doesn't. right, but some players do , and it's not like what i outlined above is a 5 turn genocide run that will kill off a race like a snap. I mean it's kind of an obvious solution to some situations, why do i always have to invade? Coun

A. Orbital Bombardment is done by non-transport warships. B. Ships CAN NOT bombard a planet with defending ships in orbit. That is, like transports, ships must attack and defeat defending ships first. C. The amount of damage done by bombardment is determined by the amount of damage points the ship/fleet is capable of. That is, a ship with more weapons, OR a ship with more advanced weapons does more damage when bombarding. Another example being that a fleet armed with

Orbital bombardment as a general feature has not been added explicitly because of the way it affects end-game gameplay in other games -- players going on a "genocide run". Could you or frogboy explain this a little more? Personally i WANT to go on genocide runs, I LIKE THEM. Like i've said many times before; a lot of times i want to c

do you still need help with your ship? or does Aggie have it for you? Remember, textures need to be PNG format, only one texture file, and must be a multiple of 2 in size (I.E. 128x128, 256x256, 512x512, etc...)

i updated the archive i uploaded with one more .x files using your PNG textures, but i think if you make it all one texture (and you don't have to UV map, just planar map it and move it around so the right image covers the right spot) that is a PNG file, and re-orient the ship so it's not on it's side, you should be fine. If not, post back here.

i can make the mesh into a .x file for you in 10 seconds Orion. The problem is you can't have more than one texture file per mesh, and they have to be in PNG format. I mean here is an archive with 2 .x files, one of your ship with all the bmp textures, and one with the textures stripped. You'll have to condense those textures into one, and make it a PNG file be4 you can get it in game. Then re-.x it, or post the new files here and i'll convert it to .x for you. <a href="http://www.d

like Kryo said, it doesn't matter what mapping style you use, once you convert to DirectX format, it's all the same. I personally have used (In Lightwave 3D), cylindrical, cubic, planar, and UV mapping on models. And once you export the model as a .x file, they all work fine. Oh and just b/c a model doesn't have a texture map with the same naming format (I.E. S0_Cargo.X and S0_Cargo.png) doesn't mean it's not using a texture file. The naming convention is for ease of filing, not by n

i like the idea of starbases customized like ships are! As for easy identification, the appropriate icon (economy, military, or influance) can be stuck at the bottom left, like a player's empire logo is on a planet, eh?

To any Devs: Is there any way we might get a snippit of info on all of this? I know things need to be kept secret and all, but maybe if it's not going to happen you could at least say, "don't expect that for DA". Take planetary bombardment for instance, if it's NOT going to be in DA could you at least tell us not to expect that from hence forth? I'm not looking to run in and try to change your minds, you guys know how many people want what

Would this also possibly mean we could see planetary bombardment? To wipe the surface clean of civilians and military forces? You know a lot of times i don't want to "invade" and "capture" a world, i just want to bomb it to hell and back to either make it unpopulated or just to cripple it's population and improvements. In my view this is one aspect i've seriously ALWAYS been craving from GCII. >>>really hoping for planetary bombardment... #1 hope for DA<<<

Streamlining the technology tree means that the user interface to it will be improved to display the techs in a more streamlined way. We need to do this because we're adding a LOT of new technologies and the old "Laser I, Laser II, Laser III" type thing just makes navigation tedious. So what we plan to replace it with are milestones. Instead of seeing Laser IV you'll

Posted By Kryo: If we handle it the same as we did with GC2's beta, it'll run in phases. Each time a new phase of testing begins, everyone who has preordered before that point gets access to that phase. If you preorder after a phase beings, you have to wait for the next one. Can't say whether that's what we're going to do now, but that's how it worked in

Well i think it's fine to agree to disagree, i was just trying to make the point that with the strategy i was talking about, at a certain point, it's not as easy as some people were saying to just waltz into my territory and do what they please. Is it an unbeatable strategy? no of course not, there is no such thing. And you're right, when i play a game of GC2, i may play the same game for, 4 weeks, 5 weeks, maybe more. I usually play on very slow tech rate, and i nerfed all the resear

ok, screenshot every light blue dot is one of my worlds protected by a defense fleet, stats of which are circled at the bottom right. All Defense Fleets are identical. every red circle is alpha fleet, stats of which are circled at the bottom left. All Alpha Fleets are identical. Each orange circle is a fully upgraded military starbase. The purple territory is brand new, surrendered to my by the yor a few turns ago. teal circled worlds are new former

And while you're covering those places I'll hit you somewhere else. You can't cover perfectly everything, it just costs too much. For half your costs I can build enough ships that will destroy much more of yours, because my forces will be concentrated, and yours spread out defending everything... And when you'll finally make me retreat, you'll find your border planets bomb
