Hi Old-Spider Interesting that you too were invading a Drengin planet. I wondered whether there might be some multiplier for them which had got misplaced so tested this by declaring war on a random opponent from a save (Iconian in fact) but got exactly the same result. Cheers, Jon

Hi Rhonin, Many thansk for your v prompt reply. This one isn't a huge bug just mildly annoying. If the planet isn't defended it doesn't matter at all but if it is you'd like to know whether to bother to enhance the attack with one of the invasion techs. Hi, I've suddenly got a bug that when I invade a planet I get a silly number of my own alleged legions (nine figures so presumably a number type mismatch). If I add in an invasion method (information warfare etc) then the number reverts to what it should be. I've tried verifying the files a coupe, of times but it's persisting. Anybody else? I don't have a planet to invade at this instant but will in a couple of moves and can then post a screen shot. Cheer

Hi, If you can get a decent opening then the ancient trait must be the strongest since with just a dozen planets say, a couple of artifacts and crucially a crystal (which gives you base research in every planet) you already have huge amounts of research with a serious base rate per turn in every planet. (You improve the starbases by going along governance -> precursor legacy and precursor relic understanding; and later along the bottom of the colonisation tree starting with xeno ar

Hi, As far as I know (I play at genius) it works at all levels. And indeed I too avoid it though of course when trading, I try to give the dear AI the techs which are least useful to them. One thing they will also do is to pay high prices for techs which are useless once you've built the associated wonder such as pilgrimage and the restaurant. That is an exploit which I am prepared to use myself though you could argue that it's almost equally exploitative. Of cou

Hi Adam., Yes I don't use custom races but that would be quite a combination. Presumably you'll buff up production to offset the shipbuilding penalty and as long as you get a decent start it should be pretty easy. I'm looking forward to you breasting the 2 million after the Ascension Gate. Cheers, Jon

Hi, I've just finished a game as the Drath with a ridiculous research rate due to the ancient trait and was wondering what other people have got? A lot more I imagine on bigger galaxies after still more conquest. On a gigantic galaxy (genius cause I can't bear the ai movement bonuses in the opening on the top two levels, no tech brokering) I finished 7k ascension on move 143 with 10 crystals (one enhanced by the ship which increases yield) and 15 artifacts.&n

Hi, I don't like the new scoring system either. It makes comparison with previous games impossible and after you've seen one seven figure number - mine normally start with 3 rather than 4 or 5 since I eventually abort the ending by building the Ascension Gate - then the difference is less striking to the human eye than the difference between two or three figure numbers. I suspect that eliminating opponents counts for a lot because I've ha

Hi, I play at the third difficulty level because the AI movement bonuses on the top 2 in the opening give me conniptions - and also disable tech brokering which makes life a lot easier. As to the expansion phase if you can stomach benevolent robots then it can be v effective. A free colony ship after colonising the first exo-planet allows one to increase the population of the home world - since you get 5 colonists on the free ship and can leave four at home - and otherwi

Hi, I've played a couple of games with 4.0 now and firstly was wondering whether the change in scoring is a feature or a bug? Rather than the miserly winning scores in 2 or 3 figures I'm now getting a couple of million. It's fine to have some larger numbers as such but makes comparison with previous games impossible so please can we return to the small rewards of the past? I gather that resources have been made more generously available but are the AI also getting big bo
If you're willing to consider mods, I recommend this one, which adds 3 new techs that unlock shipyard missions to go into the galaxy and find resources. https://www.nexusmods.com/galacticcivilizations3/mods/109
Many thanks, I think I'm probably happy to take my chances with the virtual dice without a mod (in the present game just had my main fleet with commander destroyed in what presumably is a 1/1000

Hi, I've just played a game where there was precisely one Artocarpus in the Market (and none of the AI had any) so I couldn't build the glorious restaurant of eternity. (To be more precise the price did go down to 850 and I stupidly bought one a number of turns previously but one of the planets I'd forgotten not to unautomate presumably must have made a wellness falls to use it up. Since the price was still 1000 at the end of the game (so I could only get one more) I didn't try a full
For non-synthetic races, unrest is strongly affected by the tax rate. I think distance from the homeworld and planet quality also factor in, but I'm not completely sure about those. But you can decrease your unrest by decreasing your tax rate.
Yes I always operate at a deficit in the opening with the tax rate near zero and make up the shortfall through anomalies and more important selling techs to the other races -

Hi, In a recent game I was playing as the Measured and decided that it would be better to be pragmatic rather than evil. It was quite a friendly galaxy with lots of resources but I was next to the ever disobliging Drengin and after defending myself from them I took them out and with surrendering on but mass suicide off captured Drengi and Kona amongst others. Drengi turned out to already be a very good research planet (the Drengin are vile but far from stupid) and I ma
All their planets, except their home world become class zero planets. You get their home their home world.
New game option: On Surrender, transfer all planets. Defaults to OFF
Hi, I'm considering starting a new game after a gap of a couple of months and don't immediately understand what this means. Obviously if they are transferred then the conqueror gets them whoever it is but what happens if it's off. Do they remain as a conquered nation - so no longer able to win but still there; or are they destroyed or what? Cheers, Jon<

Hi, I'm now trying out the wondrous Measured (who I've decided are Pragmatic rather than evil) and am having a torrid time though it's been greatly helped by an unprecedented number of Precursor Archives. Of the 20 colonies I currently control no fewer than 6 have archives of which three are currently active . Obviously this changes the game considerably making it potentially shorter and easier (and I don't know whether the AI knows how to exploit it properly?).&

Many thanks Horemvore. I hadn't understood that it had to be somewhere on the map to be on the market (which makes sense now you say it but I thought of the market as a purely abstract construct.) I never saw any available from a major race but I suppose that under the new (inglorious) surrender rules a planet which had it may have been trashed. As for a minor race, surely if they were producing any then with +0.1 per turn they would have gone up from 2 to 3 in the course of s

Hi, I'm currently trying a game with the splendidly evil Xraki and now winning easily. But I have been waiting to build the Douglas Adams tribute wonder the Restaurant of Eternity for - well an eternity it feels like. The wonder requires 3 Aurorus Arboretum and 3 Artocarpus Viriles. I have plenty of Aurorus and can in any case send a Xylology expedition to gather some if necessary or trade for it with other factions. But the map seems to be completely devoid of Artocarpu

Hi, I think that this is mostly very positive. I found it v tedious controlling the whole of my territory with sensor ships once I had field sensors so I like the lack of fow in my own territory though I can quite see why others don't. And the correction to the Heartstone artifact was essential. But I'm much less keen on the new surrender rules. I understand that having a lot of planets late game can be a pain but surely the way to correct this was by reintroducing a rol

Hi, Yes Retribution is different and population is a real problem at the start but you can do various things to ameliorate this. One is to go for Benevolent in which case you can get a free colony ship in the top line. You can use this to boost your population on your home planet and then send it on to do its primary task of colonising a new planet. Two steps further into the top line Abundant gives you 3 pop on all new planets which means that if necc you can rush a shi
