The dates have been corrected. Originally we had an additional week of time at the end of the contest between the WB event and the overall event, so there was going to be one last week to get in additional entries for the "Best Overall" events, but because of our office holiday schedule, we had to cut that week out to get everything wrapped up by the 19th.

My point is that saying "it works on this application, it should be EASY for games" is a gross oversimplification. Anyone who says "Oh, it should be easy if you..." should put their money where their mouth is. If it was truely easy, there would be a lot more people doing it.

The 2008 GUI Championships is reaching its busiest point as the deadline for icons and skins is Friday, and the final phases of user voting taking place over the next two weeks. What started as a trickle of submissions has now turned into a torrent, with over two dozen skins coming in over the last few days alone. Just yesterday we crossed the 100 Entry milestone. To mark that, here is a truly epic post: The First 100 Skins of the 2008 GUIC… <table cellspacing=

App development is not the same as game development. You're taking (for the most part) orders of magnitude difference in complexity. Also, how many major, complex applications are written so they can just magically be compiled in mulitple OSes without major changes? OpenOffice is really the biggest one I can think of in this regard, and I doubt that recompiling for Windows or Mac is a simple edit and button press.

After a week of fast & furious voting, the results for Most Usable Dream in the 2008 GUI Championships are in! The last few months have brought us some incredibly well-done animated wallpapers. I’m incredibly happy with the level of quality in the Dream events this year. Normally, we don’t see Dreams this good outside of Master Skins on WinC

We are in the final stretch folks. This Friday, December 5th is the deadline to submit Icons and WB Skins for the Most Usable & Most Unique events in both categories. At 11:59pm EST on the 5th, we will lock the ability to upload new skins/icons, as well as the ability to modify already posted ones, so if you
I just noticed the judges comments section on each dream when you open them. But Brads are the only comments showing. Do Zoomba and KarmGirl have any comments they want to give? I'm especially interested in KarmaGirl's comments since she gave the lowest scores.
For this event, since judging was over the Thanksgiving week and I was out of town, I didn't have the time to leave my comments on each Dream. And I didn't want to leave comments on some, but not others.</p

The option of a merge would depend on the difficulty of course. I'd have to talk with Bara/Dean/Pat about that after the competition was over to see if it's even possible. The tricky thing here is that these skins for the GUIC, and their comments, are in a completely different database. In addition to the new site, we are experimenting with a new skins library system on the back-end, so there's no easy porting from here to the old system. Of course, as others have

There are two ways we can do this. We manually move the skins one by one The consequence of that is that we don't carry over comments, or download counts. We can start doing this almost immediately after the contest ends. We wait until WC 2k9 and merge these skins in with the entire skins database This will mean the move happens later in 2009 (spring) but the comments and downloads could be kept. Which would folks prefer?

I don't believe we've officially established how content moderation will go. If I got a vote on it, I'd like to see it be open for everyone to submit content without special review, but you'd subscribe to friend's content, or the general public feed (everything, unfiltered), or a Stardock Featured Feed, where we pick content we think is particularly awesome and simply add it to our featured set. Based on how we've handled content on WinCustomize for years, there are a great numb

As Zubaz said, the offices are closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday. We are aware of users having problems with BootSkin Pro and are working to resolve them. There really isn't anything more that can be said beyond that.
