Don't just spam LRF. I took out an Illum spammer today, 40+ at once at one point, using fighters and 12-15 illums backed by a Mothership and Halcyon and some Drone hosts. I kept waiting for him to build Defense vessels and he never did. Don't just FF (focus fire) on his capital ship(s) unless your are sure to get the kill. I had two capital ships a Mothership and Halcyon and rotated them back to my nearby world to swing by some repair bay(s) and back into the action while m

Hi Andraxal, I would say you did well. You spent a lot of cash sending pirates at me :) I will add you to my list so I'll remember ;) I believe you were playing advent and asking about my multiple capital ships (figure out how to get them out early yet?). I went random and ended up Vasari, although I prefer Advent myself. A Mothership with one or two Halcyon's are my favorite with this race. Advent doesn't really have a healer until late so the Mothership shield restore coupled with G

The utility of any PC overshadow's what a console can do and will likely ever do due to licensing rights associated with consoles. The power of a PC will most likely always overshadow what a console can do. Consoles have always fit the nitch that allows households to play video games without the fear of having to troubleshoot complex hardware and software issues. Heck, even my 60 year old mom and dad play video games on a Wii. This just isn't feasible for most when it comes

My suggestion would be to mod the strength of the pirates down to fit the gameplay with your friends. There are a couple of threads here somewhere that show how to do this which is not as complicated as one would think. I would be fine with your suggestion overall, but don't think it will happen anytime soon.

Yep, I was one of those not talking. sorry [e digicons]O:)[/e] I was watching both Vanilla/Entrenchment and Diplomacy. I ended up joining a game with some new people begging to play on Vanilla and trying to sell the virtues of the expansions to them.
What do you expect from a 7th level tech with six prerequisites? Its position on the tech tree means it will always be end-game material, and once you get there it's quite worthwhile. Yes, most games never reach the 7th and 8th lab levels, but those that do go on for long periods can put techs like these to great use. I don't see any changes here.
Let me rephrase my issue with damage upgrades. Most upgrades become available at tier 1-3, however, they provide little stra

I actually had the game for 7 months before venturing online. I have 3 kids, a wife going back to college for a second time, coach youth sports as well as work full time. So I'm kinda busy. I never really played online before this game either. Now, I enjoy playing online and actually had to step away for a bit to appease the wife ;) It's also got me started into modding which has become a nice hobby on the side. I'm hoping to have some decent skills by the time a Sins 2 comes out.
Expansion packs (and their betas) notwithstanding, the tech trees have never been altered, so there's substantial reason to believe they never will be. In any case, the 4th level tech is not a serious issue.
I know. I have no faith any changes will be made either based on this thread or the other civilian thread either. It's just an interesting discussion as this research makes it more difficult in the suicide spot to protect your planet. There is no issue outside of th

Adding my two cents again from memory. (Forum went big time boom today :) In general: I really dislike the standard 5% level increases on research upgrades. Not only is it boring, it rarely adds any significant value to a fleet (with a few exceptions such as hull upgrades and Vasari phase missles). The Vasari and TEC Hull upgrade is probably the best example on how to make them a little more interesting and not the flat 5%. In terms of usefulness, I would like to see a bigger imp
Seriously Sins is a good game, I say don't screw it up by making a sequel Ok, I'll say to a sequel if there is the following in version 1.00 of the game: Modding More modding abilities Official mods
Well, add 64 bit and quad-core processor support to the list as well, which would support you critieria even better.
Dead socket as in "in the process of being phased out to be replaced in the relative near term." AM2 = dead socket as an example.
For your definition I would still say no, it is not a dead socket. The 1156 is geared more towards the low to mid range systems while the 1366 is geared more towards high end or server based systems.

The 1156 is not a dead socket. This would mean they are no longer building CPU's for the socket which is obviously not the case. The difference between the 1156 and the 1366 is that the latter will run the new i9 CPU's. In reality the 1156 boards perform really well compared to the i7 920 especially cost wise. 1156 = i3, i5, i7 (800 series), DDR3 dual channel, x8 SLI or crossfire 1366 = i7 (900 series), i9, DDR3 triple channel, x16 SLI or crossfire
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it possible to code a program/game so that it works with multiple cores, but also with a single core if that's all you have?
I'm quite sure it is possible. However, my understanding is that Iron Clad was basically the equivalent of an Indie company at the time of Sins release. What they did accomplish with a limited budget is fairly amazing given I don't really know what their experiences were with game engine development at the time.
Much like everyone else on these forums, I agree that for a game like Sins to demand so much power, and then limit itself to only 2GB RAM and 1 CPU is senseless. I have games that are waaaay more demanding than Sins, that run just fine for me.
There are several threads that address this. But, seriously, by default 32 bit windows systems reserve half of the available ram for the kernel. Therefore, if 4GB is available then 2GB is reserved for the kernel. (Yes, we know you

Host testing may still say your IP is not visible even with Alloy enabled. You still should be able to host though. I have a PC at home that does the same thing and I can still host through Alloy with it.
That having been said, it should be noted that clans don't really serve much of a purpose in Sins of a Solar Empire and that it's difficult to actually call them "clans" as opposed to "community groups" since none of them are doing what clans should actually be doing--which is playing competitive games against other clans in leagues and on competitive ladders. Sadly, Sins doesn't have a large enough online multiplayer community to support a real clan scene...
I was tryi
