@DesConner- since mines use an ability to do damage, they have the ability damage bonuses of the GamePlayConstants file. This allows them to do 100% damage to EVERYTHING except capitals (50% damage to caps I believe; checking.... nope, 75% damage in v1.19 and v1.05 (don't know about Diplo but I'd imagine it's the same)).
Ah, so all abilities use the CAPITALABILITY damage modifier in gameplay.constants then?

@DesConner [e digicons]k1[/e] for your forum activity. You've had some really good posts. On the damage type for mines I'm a little curious as mines use ability/buff to cause damage and not weapons. Therefore the instant action type is DoDamage for 700 or 1050 respectively that affects shields and hull and is shared damage. I don't see anything around buffs that indicates there is a damage modifier. I guess my understanding was damage dealing abilities inflict 100

@btybourke Yes, illum or any LRF spammer can be frustrating to deal with. However, if they spam nothing but LRF's there are ways to counter them. I've included a replay for 1.05 entrenchment (watch it quick or make up full backup of your current sins instalation) that shows a true illum spammer, who didn't even bother to build flak. I started with civilian labs betting I could get an eco up before engaging the enemy in a 2v2 battle, but he pressed a little earlier than I wanted p
Only reason I'm against such a debuff on GRG is because this would turn it into a superior version of existing abilities. It's a big gun, it hurts you; the only tweak it needs is finding a happy medium between cost and effectiveness compared to other direct damage abilities. It must do more significantly more damage to single targets than, say, Detonate AM or Rad Bomb, but you don't want to turn it into an 'I Win' button in cap vs. cap fights either.
This is an existing

Sins/Stardock actually has a fairly liberal view in regards to trying out games such as Sins of a solar empire. If you want access to patches and online gameplay though you will need to buy a license. If you want to continue playing the game after "trying" it out, then I agree you really should buy the license. In either case welcome to this game and have fun online. The game is much more challenging against human players.

With the lamenting in other threads I have to say I misread this one initially too. I have however begun doing the very same thing and started cleaning out my friends list. Very few are active now and I would like to know who is actually playing online.

Two different suggestions for GRG. 1) Split the damage similar to Disintegration and have half the damage directly hit the hull and half the damage directly hit the shields. 2) Add the secondary affect of the GausDefenseRailGun and have the target's armor decrease by 3 or some variation of that such as -1,-2 and -3 by level of GRG.

Entrenchment definately fits the improves gameplay and adds novel features. Diplomacy fits may fit more with the mastery of the game and it's time to move to the next level. I would definately recommend Entrenchment at any time. Diplomacy is fun and probably will be better for online play in the future.
Agreed; carrier caps are quite overpowered now for this very reason. They are overshadowing all other choices because the only response to an enemy carrier cap is your own carrier cap (regardless of which faction you are playing). I don't think rolling back the additional squads given in 1.18 is a viable choice, since ADA and scramble would continue to dominate. In that respect, I believe the only option is to buff every other capital ship across the board with regards to its combat pr

Really selling Mature games with proof of age is not that big a deal to me. Not allowing me to play a Mature game online (EA) on my son's xbox because I set it up under his name and age is rediculous. The xbox live is linked to my account. I should have the option to override that setting with EA.

I have actually seen the AI use ultimate ship abiltiies with Diplomacy (not sure about Entrenchment). I saw an Akkan hit Armistice and went WTF. It was kinda cool. They did change the super weapons to autocast by default for the AI but I have still not seen them build one yet. I've also noticed Vasari has issues getting starbases constructed by the time TEC and Advent AI's have many starbases constructed.

Welcome, Let us know when you get online. I for one will join in comp stomp games with newer players to help them get a feel for the online game. I played SP for 7 months before venturing online and still got my arse handed to me when I finally joined. It takes a little effort to learn some of the tactics necessary for online play and also a little time to learn the proper counters. Good luck and have fun.

I doubt it would matter much when the TEC player with the supply pact comes through with a boat load of bombers and orgrovs. I think this could have made a nice high level pact, I'm just not sure which race it would fit with.
