b] To actually make the Desolator a good planet ravager, you have to have it leveled up. I believe the Desolator, unlike most other ships, becomes really good only at 10th level. He NEEDS his PMS on level 3 for it to be sensible. He NEEDS Assault Spec on level 3 to really be a planet killer, just as he needs the platforms. He NEEDS the Disintegration, or else two bomber squads could destroy it given enough time, because he has no other survivability booster.
Wha
a] I said it is good for bombing, not big battles. Now you say I'm am correct, while just a few posts back you said it was rubbish. Make up your mind.
A few posts earlier, you said that it wasnt good for anything. I agree with you on the point that the Desolator is good for taking down planets. I disagree that it does not work in big battles.
It's the VOLATILE NANITES which make the combo deadly, while the PMS only makes the chain reaction come a little sooner.
Volatile nanites does not make PMS worthwhile, it just makes it much better. PMS have a brief cooldown, so you can use it again and again. The damage dealt very quickly becomes noticable. use volatile nanites with phase missile swarm, its a great combo .
at least half of the damage dealt by PMS will regenerate before the damaged target goes under fire.
Use MICRO . Enough said.
Not to be used in battles. Not to be used as a dreadnaught. Not to be compared to Marza.
a] Bombers are no.1 defense buster in game hands down.
One last thing. sending in bombers to bust defenses still with fighters around is suicide. The desolator is not any harder to kill then any other capship. It is waaay better then the Maruader.

I used to think that the desolator was pointless. Once i realised how to use it i knew how wrong i was. It is fantastic. relatively high survivability, phase missiles and great abilities. seige platforms are MUCH better then siege frigs. Plafroms free up the desolator to do other things. You need to get the space egg to level 6 before you can seige with it properly. Phase missile swarm is great against structures. Phase missile swarm night not shoot phase missiles, but

Its pretty stupid for me not to have thought of protecting capships with Overseers already. Oh well. Cataclysm2000, the Skirantra Carrier's repair cloud is very useful. It helps keep strikecraft alive as well as focus-fired ships.

Interesting, i never thought of using overseers to protect capships from getting focus-fired. Good idea [e digicons]:D[/e] I'm surprised that non-TEC players actually bother with anything other than colonizer as their first capship. Like many of you have agreed that Seige frigs are pointless, but i dont know what to do about. Reducing fleet supply to 10 would be good.

40 Replies 43,304 Views

Certain units in Sins are completely useless, but i haven't come across many suggestions. Seige Frigates: Now these units are totally useless. i've heard of many people complaining about this. I suggest that they should cost far less fleet supply (7 fleet supply?) since they have such limited role on the battlefield. 14 fleet supply is simply way too much. I've never heard of anyone who makes colony frigates as Advent and Vasari and i've never heard of any one who likes

Interstellar space combat is so far ahead of current technology that assumptions are meaningless. Assumptions based on current warfare are also rediculous. Space combat is NOT modern warfare so you cannot assume anything. Arguments about range, firepower, armour and acceleration are pointless as we may learn to manipulate the fundemental forces other then electromagnetism which we can already do.

Combining the scout rush with the assailant + maruader rush would be an improvenment. Subvert his planet so that building things takes ages. kill off his army withy assailants and kill builders with scouts. Use Phase Out Hull on his capship when it proves to be a problem.

Another thing, since there is no horizon in space, hiding would actually be easier. An attack can come from any direction and sensors would have to cover a MUCH wider area, so it would be easier to sneak in. Space combat would very demoralising and stressful, maybe in more so in a fighter. Knowing that a lethal vacuum is at outside and knowing that if your ship is destroyed, you might die very far from home would be scary. it would be like being on a submarine but far worse. Likelihoo

Some pretty good ideas, but unlimited levels for capships sounds very overpowered to me. I cant imagine crews surviving the death of their ship. glowing/pulsing planets when under seige are already in the game. I think that special ebilities are fine, more subtle visual representations od abilities would look boring though. Other ideas are good. Randomization of combat such as lucky shots would EAT processing power.

I agree with you, i was actually trying to say that it must go with an assailant rush, obviously i didnt state that clearly enough. I also stated that it is decent on the map Point Blank which is tiny. Anyway, in my original post i said that this cannot kill the enemy on its own. Also, if you get phase out hull you that would take care of the enemy capship. ion bolt has a short duration and short cooldown, so using that will run out of antimatter fast. Good micro should allow

I DID say that it could work with an assailant rush, and i DID say it would work on a small map. Also, because of the maruaders speed, and Akkan wont catch up to use ion bolt. Anyway, what TEC player makes an Akkan and gives it ion bolt first? it should get colonise. If they purchase levels that will screw their eco early anyhow. One more thing. As the maruader gains experience, getting phase out hull is good. Phasing out the enemy capship before they can use their abilities always he

A while ago now, i come up with an unusual Vasari strategy. I dont know whether anyone else has come up with this and ive used it affectively versus normal AI but that doesnt really prove anything does it? I came up with this strat purely for the sake of originality. On a small map, start off like usual, but dont make space egg and depending on the situation, dont make scouts either, like on Point Blank for example. Instead build a Maruader and get the subversion ability. Rush. Obviou

interesting replies, i have to agree with u now that they can be very nasty, but i have heard other people complain that they are useless, and i DID say that the novalith was good and that the Kostura would be good for disabling a starbase but they cost waaay more than a capship and have fewer uses. I've been attacked while under the affect of the deliverence and it has never been anything more than i minor annoyance. Yes, I know this is not Red Alert where the superweapon is a few mi

Everyone knows that they are useless, but not many people have made suggestions on how to improve these structures. The game has much more focus on cap ships and that entrenchement is coming out there will be a big emphasis on starbases as well. Superweapons need to play a larger role. Right now they dont deserve their name. In entrenchement i reckon that the kostura will be more useful. shutting down the enemy starbase for 3 minutes would be nasty, but even so, superweapons need a cos
