But wouldn't his action to defend his office be to veto whatever Act that Congress had put before him? It seems as though this doesn't so much justify anything, but make an excuse for it. The Govt got caught "spying" The congress said "You can't because of this law" The Pres said "Oh, that law.. well that's unconstitutional so I'm going to ignore it." If it was unconstitutional, why did it get passed in the first place?

There is "no threat" to the US, or most of Europe, from Iran _directly_ right now, though certainly in the future as they get more advanced missle technology. The more near-term threat is to their more immediate neighbors. I imagine Isreal will allow Iran into the nuclear club for less then a picosecond before turning the country into a glass parking lot.

There is a difference between "do no evil" and "obey the laws of the country your operating in". I agree that the outcome is disappointing, but it is hardly surprising. China has a vested interested, but only to a point. If their tactics delay UN action while Iran continues to be agressive eventually Isreal will react. China will get no value out of the Yadavaran oilfield if Isreal turns it into a glass parking lot.
