I thought this was pretty funny.

But wouldn't his action to defend his office be to veto whatever Act that Congress had put before him? It seems as though this doesn't so much justify anything, but make an excuse for it. The Govt got caught "spying" The congress said "You can't because of this law" The Pres said "Oh, that law.. well that's unconstitutional so I'm going to ignore it." If it was unconstitutional, why did it get passed in the first place?
There is "no threat" to the US, or most of Europe, from Iran _directly_ right now, though certainly in the future as they get more advanced missle technology. The more near-term threat is to their more immediate neighbors. I imagine Isreal will allow Iran into the nuclear club for less then a picosecond before turning the country into a glass parking lot.
Ummm... Pakistan != Palestine
There is a difference between "do no evil" and "obey the laws of the country your operating in". I agree that the outcome is disappointing, but it is hardly surprising. Google didn't really have a leg to stand on here, if they want to do buisiness in China, they have to obey China's laws. If they take a stand, China tells 'em to F' off.
What's this have to do with Monday Night Football? Are we sending Madden to Iraq now?
China has a vested interested, but only to a point. If their tactics delay UN action while Iran continues to be agressive eventually Isreal will react. China will get no value out of the Yadavaran oilfield if Isreal turns it into a glass parking lot.
should they try, the US would be there to try and stop them. Offtopic, but do you think the US has the resources to do that at the present time? Given that we're tied up in Iraq and Afghanistan, I'm not sure we could open up another front in Iran. OnTopic: If it comes to armed conflict, I wou
Saw this story Link . I don't know anything about the Globalist and what their spin is, but it was an interesting read. A little naive, especially given Iran's comments to date regarding Isreal.
Aren't there situations where Union membership is required in the Terms of Employment? A new worker MUST join the union to get hired.
I don't know that they have outlived their usefullness, but more a matter of Checks and Balances. In theory Unions still provide a service: They protect "the Worker" from "The Boss". In an age where most Corporations only look at the bottom line and strive to increase the weath of their shareholders, Unions prevent them from going too far and screwing the individual workers. On the other hand, Unions have grown too powerful. They now have the ab
I can't find the fulltext with the quote anymore and I'm not going to pay WP to access their archieves, but I believe it was in an article titled "The Whip who would be speaker" by Dan Balz on Oct 20 1994.
" Just imagine if a republican had said anything like this. They would be demanding their resignation." They did: To quote Newt Gingrich Since they think it is their job to run the plantation, it shocks them that I’m actually willing to lead the slave rebellion.” [Washington Post, 10/20/94]
So far I love this season. As was stated, there is some "suspension of disbelief" like where are all the secret service agents and the blatent use of cell-phones for super-secret communications in super-secret facilities. I really like Chloe's character. It took a while, but I grew to like her in the last season. Not sure if I like Sean Astin's inclusion or not, we'll have to see how his character develops. 24 is probably my fav
"The next Windows Vista explorer provides a host of useful features for modifying data such as being able to crop and do basic editing on images without having to load a graphics editing package." Is this really a good thing? I can understand how being able to edit a photo from Explorer simplifies things from a User's point-of-view, but I'd worry that Explorer becomes the "Everything but the kitchen sink"-splorer: Able to do a lot of things,
Today is my birthday. My girlfriend got me a new scanner. Link It was actually a combination Xmas/Birthday gift since the damn thing costs so much. The Fire Department I run with recently switched to a new radio system which left my old scanner next to useless. W
I wish I had a last name of "Justice", that's such a super-hero last name..like Max Power or Chesty LaRue. Good luck
I'll probably pick one up (have an Xbox now), it looks to be a good system. I'll definitely wait until after Xmas though. Want to hear some solid reviews of the system and let it get some games behind it. And with any Microsoft product, you ALWAYS wait for the first patch to be released before you buy.
Good points, both of you. I guess i"m not really surprised that he said it, just that there isn't more outrage about it. It's almost like people are going "You know.. he might be right" or "I voted against them in the election and God is smiting me by burning my toast this morning"
I saw Link . Apparently Pat Robertson's god is going to smite the town over Intelligent Design. Some quotes: if there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God, you just rejected Him from your city," "And don't wonder why He hasn't helped you when problems begin, if they beg
Are they really vigilanties? They're more like a Neighborhood Watch where "if [they] see something, call it in". My question would be who are they calling? If the police are already overwhelmed, then this won't do much. I'm wondering if this is being set up in areas worried about the violence spreading INTO them, rather then areas that are already actively violent. Either way, you're right. It's good to see the population taking an acti
I saw Link and thought it was an interesting view of what's goign on in Paris lately. From the article: But of course, all these problems are exacerbated by the non-assimilation policy that both the French government and the Muslim population have for so long pursued: the rioters are part of a p
I agree, for the most part, with what you've said. There is definitely a lack of Self-Responsibility in today's society and this is especially obvious during times of crisis. If the NWS says leave the area because its going to get slammed with a storm.. You LEAVE the area. If they say you can stay, but be sure to stock up on food, you STOCK UP ON FOOD. On the other hand, there is only so much an individual can do. "No man is an islan
Not surprisingly, Israel a little peeved by the statements.. Link Interesting quote: "Since the United Nations was established in 1945, there has never been a head of state that is a U.N. member state that publicly called for the elimination of another U.N. member state" There's been a lot of condemnation of the statements from the usual countries, US, UK, Spain
There is good in bad in every religion.. and there are good, bad, and downright horrible interpretations of every religion. Neither the Christians or the Muslims can't take the high road there. HOWEVER, this isn't some random guy spouting these remarks. This is the leader of a nation, which gives the statements slightly more weight. I can certainly see Isreal treating this as an outright statement of open hostility and responding accordi
