New scanner

Today is my birthday. My girlfriend got me a new scanner. Link
It was actually a combination Xmas/Birthday gift since the damn thing costs so much. The Fire Department I run with recently switched to a new radio system which left my old scanner next to useless. With the new scanner I can once-again hear the initial report while driving to the station. This is pretty important to me. There are times when you want to know is this a "real" call or not. Some key words on the initial report such as "Heavy fire", "Victim's trapped"..etc. means I might be a little more aggressive getting to the station then if it is the typical 3am CO alarm.
Another aspect of this gift is that my girlfriend got it for me. As much as she complains about me running out in the middle of the night, or dinner, or New Years, she stills supports what I do. That means a lot to me. We are a pretty busy Department (3000+ runs/year) and it takes a lot of dedication and work. It is also very hard on us and our family members. I'm still trying to find the balance between home life and firefighting. Her getting me this gift shows that I'm closer to that balance and that she is proud of me.
