Pre-orders are ALWAYS a bad idea. Consoles used to be safer, but now that they too can 'ship now, patch later' there's little incentive for publishers in care about the state of product at release. With the era of digitial distrubution slowly taking over retail sales (moreso for PC, but consoles are getting there), there's no good reason to buy a game without waiting for feedback from reviewers and early adopters (aka suckers). They cannot not run out of copies, and the di

Is another ship type really needed though? While more variety is never bad for a game, there are enough unit types in Sins to provide an effective counter to LRFs and SC. While people complained about scouts being used in combat roles, Ironclad clearly meant for them to remain useful mid-game by giving them researchable combat abilities (even if these could use some tweaks). The problem last patch was that Seekers > *, not that Seekers were beating LRF. I personally
They probably figure if EA can get away with it, so can they. Unfortunately, they seem to have forgotten that nobody likes EA either.
Each race generally has three 'main' weapon types that can be upgraded. With TEC and Advent, these weapon types are generally fairly balanced among their unit types, giving you a few different 'builds' to choose from early game if trying to maximize research efficiency. TEC: Laser (4)- LF, caps, SB, support cruisers Autocannon (4)- Flak, HCs, caps, fighters Missiles (5)- LRF, caps, SB, bombers, anti-building Advent: Laser (6
I'm more than willing to roll up my sleaves and make a balance mod, but I'm waiting on one more official patch first. There's still several semi-major bugs in Diplomacy that I don't think a modder can fix (and shouldn't have to fix), so I'll wait for any major code changes before starting such a project. Threads like these aren't useless at all, as getting input from other players who have really thought about it and want to improve the game helps out with things I might overloo
There is no reason whatsoever to have more than 4GB for gaming at the moment, regardless of your OS. I sincerely doubt there are any current generation games that have been programmed to make use of more than that.
He said he was just throwing the idea out there, but either way, I'm not sure I share your fears or concerns. What would stop you from either going rock vs. rock and countering with your own Marzas, or countering with something like Akkans or Marauders which have interrupts? You act as if he's the only one allowed to buy caps and level them up? This is what I don't get either. You seem to be thinking as though only one player is getti
RAM will not help you play at higher resolutions. It will improve loading times and frame rates at your current stable resolution, but jumping to the next higher resolution will cause frame rates to tank with or without more RAM. RAM is important for gaming, but the CPU and video card have far more of an impact.
So what's the issue? Even with research, you can't go above level 4 without earning it. I was just throwing the XP bonus out there. It's kind of confusing that you want many cap ships abilities buffed, some quite major, but then you argue against buffing cap ships. It kind of confuses anyone trying to discuss it.
Just leave a couple frigates and a colonizer/scout to guard neutrals so they can't just run in and take it on you. If there's 3 neutrals in one sector, it may be worth throwing a SB up for that.
Moving your capital once or twice on a large map may help a bit, but as said the upgrade is very expensive. You'd have to have a really large empire before the alligence shifts would work out in your favour.
I don't mind the single player and coop at all though. It's an imperfect beast but it is nice to not have to rebuild your fortress every mission. This is more of a classic RTS problem of single player campaigns sucking, and why so many new RTS' are trying to do something different. Relic managed to fix a large part of this by removing the 'gold mining' nonsense from their games (a large reason why I'm not looking forward to SC2). Games
but that screws up new capitals late game This is where things like buying levels, Crew Training, Resurrection and Mass Trancedency suddenly come in, no? Late game when have 30+ credit income, it's not crazy to be able to spend 3500 credits to bump your new cap to level 4 so it's not a useless POS. This is also an opportunity to tweak the Crew Training researches so they aren't so crap. Instead of just raising the buyable l
Capitals are difficult to solve... If they are too powerful, then it ruins the feel of the game How so?
Isn't that obvious? Look a seige frigates; no one builds them because caps do it better. What happens if caps in general are made more cost-effective than combat frigates? The main problem is that you can have as many caps as you want in Sins, compared to say Warcraft 3 where you can have a ma
Modding isn't losing popularity because people are losing interest, people aren't modding because they CAN'T. DRM and Steam often lock down games to the point where modders can't do much with them these days. People would LOVE to mod Dawn of War 2 for example, but it's simply too much hassle and their modding forum has little in the way of interesting projects. Which I don't get. Mods are what keep games alive and popular years after their release. The core gam
From that blog: Some nice changes, some cool new features, and of course, ranked 1v1 Are you kidding me? This is something they didn't think to include from day 1, the most popular form of multiplayer? You know, the main reason any competitive player sticks with a RTS? So what innovations will they patch in next, a lobby and chat system? And GPG support has always been poor. People complained about SupCom 1 balance, bugs and performance
Anyway I'm guessing EA knew C&C4 was going to bomb before they announced the closure. It wouldn't make sense to close a studio that was still making money. The confusing part is why they would publicly announce that. There's no way in hell any of the developers would put any real effort into their work after knowing you'll be canned after the project ends. It's like EA flat out telling everyone the game was going to suck badly.
Ah, so that early paid Spore demo was a test. I guess enough idiots must have bought it for them to think this idea will not end in total failure. Shareware (demos that were essentially 1/4-1/3 of the full game) worked back in the day because the shareware was free. Oh well, EA can do what they want. I'm still not going to buy anything from them.
Does the Radiance really need a 'target me!' ability though? Unlike the Kortul and Kol, it was never intended to be a tank but more of a cap ship killer. I mean, considering how fast cap ships die to focus fire does your opponent actually need an incentive to target the Radiance with everything they have? If we're going to rip off Warcraft 3 for skill ideas, what about Mirror Image? It's in line with what Advent does (in fact, Illums already do this with research) and
I checked gamereplays, which I usually use for my RTS (yes I know those games aren't actually RTS') news, and didn't see any news on such a major update. I guess the Demigod community there is just so dead no one cares. The HoN and LoL pages there are both constantly active though. And yes, all DoTA communities are cancer which is why I don't play any of them. There's just something about those games that brings out the asshole in people.
You don't want to make it too frequent, or it becomes a win button in large battles. I don't know if people here played Warcraft 3, but there was a unit there called the Mountain Giant that basically had Animosity. Like the Radiance, with one Mountain Giant you could easily micro and make the ability useless. With 3-4, you suddenly had a big problem as they could chain the ability resulting in your units never being able to target properly. Two Radiances with an Animos
The pacts all involve general things that are shared by all races. Specific things like phase gate sharing don't really fit the design of pacts. However, a seperate research that allows allies to share these makes sense. Advent should get the artifact sharing research people want as well, seeing as Advent and Visari got shorted one new research in Diplomacy compared to TEC. I think the TEC missile pact and Visari repair pact should be switched; TEC is actually better
I'm so relieved I didn't buy Demigod. I was on the fence when it came out, but decided against it as I had bad experiences with GPG support in the past. Apparently they still haven't released any new heroes while their FREE competition releases 2-3 patches a month; looks like GPG hasn't changed at all. I feel bad for anyone who bought it, and I feel bad for Stardock for picking the lame horse out of the three big DoTA clones.
This is a fantastic mod concept, and I look forward to future optimizations. I have a couple friends I play with whose systems start chugging hard mid-late game, so any relief at all is quite welcome.
If not auto-download for maps, then take the best 10-20 custom maps (hold a vote or contest or something) and add them in the next patch. And I'll have to check out this performance enhancement mod, as I have a couple friends with mediocre systems.
