Except this failure isn't due to the PC DRM nonsense, Ubisoft is mainly a console publisher. Certainly, I doubt the lost PC game sales are helping them much; but if you look at the insane number of terrible Wii and DS (especially the DS) titles they vomit out every month you can see why maybe they might be losing more than they're selling. As psychoak said, their current management team needs to be put in a bag and thrown in a river as they clearly don't have a clue. Tip: Mo

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said he hopes to make sure that both retailers and consumers are pleased by their new plan. "We are building out the content to make sure it can be beneficial for both groups.", "We have the system in place to actually generate more revenue on the second-hand market". Haha, oh wow. I almost can't believe they'd make such a statement. One of the parties invol
I am shocked that their winning strategy of spamming console shovelware games combined with a few decent but heavily DRM'd games thrown in the mix is not working. And who are they blaming? Used game retailers, who are probably the only reason anyone risks buying a Ubisoft title these days since you can trade it in after to get part of your money back. But hey, you and EA go right ahead and try to kill the system that is keeping your more mediocre titles selling at all.</
Wait, serious question: how would you play this on a mac? I'm pretty sure the game (and most games really) requires more than one mouse button.
Nothing to see here. Epic's been blaming piracy on their mediocre games since the PC port of Gears of War flopped. It seems they feel the need to keep saying that every 6 months or so in order to feel better about their failures. Tip: The money is on the consoles because console standard for FPS' are much lower. Gears of War and UT3 failed on the PC because they were subpar by PC standards. Apparently brown and bloom is game of the year material
I know what you mean about controllers. I have a Logitech gamepad for my PC, as certain console port games just need one. However after trying to play Street Fighter 4 with both the gamepad and with the keyboard, I settled with the keyboard. Moves go off more precisely, and I have more buttons to use in the positions I choose. Just don't ask me to use Zangeif with the keyboard.
I'm amazed at some of you saying Gamestop should be giving publishers a cut of their used game sales. Once you sell a product, you no longer have the right to make demands regarding its use. The new owner doesn't magically owe you money if he in turn sells the product to someone else, regardless of how much he may profit from doing so. Claiming otherwise is to go against thousands of years of economic reality. I haven't heard of any used
I played many of them as a kid (and badly since there was no Gamefaqs to get unstuck!) . Also LucasArts games before they changed into All Star Wars All the Time. Good times. The modern adventure games (the new Sam and Max and Monkey Island games) have been watered down (though still funny at times) too much, it's just not the same. You don't really have to think to get through them anymore, and it's impossible to lose. I think this is one of those genres that
World of Goo did this before. It's is a rather interesting social experiment as well some publicity for these indie games. I think they should have hid the statistics until close though. It affects behaviour seeing the averages like that, shaming people into paying a more reasonable amount. Would be more interesting to see how many people would be jerks and pay $1 or less if they thought 'no one was looking'.
That's true. Another thing brought from the PC model; you can't rent games on PC. You have to buy, or when the publisher feels like releasing one, try one-level demos. Publishers like that, and probably want to eventually cut the rental companies out of the picture too. Considering games are getting shorter and shorter on content these days, and day 1 DLC offerings getting more and more common, it's not really a surprise if they want to eliminate rentals too. Can
Actually, there is no difference. Not anymore. There will never be a PC exclusive FPS ever again, except for small indie offerings. Any AAA FPS released these days will be released on the 360, and possibly PS3 and PC depending on the publisher. Unreal Tournament 2004 was my all-time favourite FPS, but after seeing UT3 I realized with sadness that there would never be anything with that variety and value ever again. And maybe that's for the best. FPS' have
I tend to agree this is more of a continuation of their campaign against the secondary market than a shot at customers. They already took steps in this direction with 'bonus' DLC. It must obviously not have had the impact they wanted, so now they're going to try crippling features instead of holding back bonuses. For once I actually support EA on this one. Gamestop is pretty damn arrogant, often selling used games for $5 less than new while giving the person who trad
I just wish Ubi would get out of the PC games market. Right now all they are doing is trying to destroy it. Most average, non-hardcore gamer types that buy the games won't even realize what they are getting into till it bites them in the ass. Then they'll think "I never had to deal with this shit on my (insert console)" and look skeptically at PC games from now on. I don't think anyone is saying that all forms of DRM aren't acceptable,
Well, I've heard that the Terran campaign in SC2 is as long as all three campaigns from SC1 put together, so I really can't blame them for splitting it up.
Except that people who don't care about the campaigns get the shaft here. They've said there will be new units and such with each expansion, so the multiplayer crowd will be forced to choose between shelling out for a very expensive expansion ($50 is high even for Blizz
Perhaps I am the only one who can remember a time when you had to buy all of your games from local stores. You countered your own argument. The key in the sentence is the 's' in stores. You had a choice who to buy it from, and there was more of chance of seeing a sale or promo of some sort as the stores try to entice people to buy from them over their competition. Steamworks eliminates all the competition on the digital
Mr. Blunt has it completely correct. 1.5 to 2 hours is about three to four times longer than a game of any traditional RTS, and many people simply do not have the time to sit through an entire 2 hour game in one sitting. Especially with more ridged tournament scheduling. Also, what format shall we play? 4v4 or 5v5? Regulars like that, non-regulars not so much. 1v1 or 2v2? Now you've lost the interest of the regulars. By 'stacked fleets' I'm pr
While it's possible to still set up a 'farming planet' in Diplomacy with the right map layout, Ironclad cut the XP earned from them making this a waste of time beyond insuring the pirates won't attack a more important planet. Also, in Diplomacy 2 or 3 repair bays and some ships will NOT stop pirates during later raids. The pillagers get an anti-building aoe attack in Diplomacy, so they will actually kill unshielded buildings rather quickly in later raids. Even fully upgraded
@Zehdon - While I too think SC2 is really just SC1.5, there's one important reason to consider as to why Blizzard wants to keep it that way. SC1 is still mind-blowingly huge in South Korea, so in the interests on maximizing revenue they want to keep things as similar as possible so that everyone currently playing SC1 will move to SC2 without missing a beat. If they tried something new like they did with Warcraft 3, they risk the change not being well received. They might hav
Pirates simply aren't worth turning on at the moment. For one, there's an annoying bug where AI opponents will not bid on each other in FFA games. Meaning you will always have to get involved in every raid bidding to avoid being locked by non-stop raids. The second issue is the pirates will deal massive damage to your fleet without a starbase present no matter what, even on the very first raid, and will probably kill the planet anyways due to throwing 10+ siege ships in late
It's a shame there's no real competition on the competitive RTS front at moment. C&C4 and SupCom 2 were disappointments, and Dawn of War 2 was too dumbed down compared to Relic's other titles. The whole 'build peons, mine gold' gameplay mechanic is tired and needs to disappear. Dawn of War 1, Company of Heroes, and even Sins of a Solar Empire were on the right track with their core gameplay, but suffered from poor matchmaking systems and bad balancing. Starcraft 2
If Activision wants to salvage their image at this point, they really need to lose Bobby Kotick. The man flat out stated in an interview that the only thing his company cares about is money, that his company will only focus on game franchises that can be churned out every year, and he'd gouge his customers even more if he could. While this is the same policy they have at EA, they at least know enough about PR there to avoid admitting it publicly. It takes some skill to bec
Would be nice to know if 1.02 is planned and if it's just going to be a bugfix patch or if any balance changes are planned. If it's not, then the community at least knows they might as well start their own balance patch.
Actually, one other thing I forgot to mention for future considerations (this one's Ironclad's fault, not a mod issue): The races' diplomacy research trees are mostly identical, except for one glaring issue: TEC mysteriously gained the Labour Negotiations tech (and is completely unncessary, as TEC already HAS techs for building and ship build time reductions) while Advent and Visari appear to get NOTHING comparible. I think it would be a good idea to come up with a new tec
Been playing using the mod with my friends quite a bit, against each other and against the AI. We generally agree it's a massive improvement over vanilla Sins, and have a few humble suggestions to improve gameplay for your next patch based on things we've seen. Also, does the AI know how to research the extended levels of research in DS? We find the end-game report always states the AI researching a very low number of researches compared to the human players; often less than
I'm pretty sure HoN was made by people who made the DoTA mod in the first place, so they're not actually ripping anyone off. But yeah, literally all it is is DoTA that no longer requires having Warcraft 3 to play.
