I am getting terrible corruption when the latest Yahoo Messenger is running at work without WB installed. I assume that Yahoo is using Direct Skin since the behavior is similar to what I have seen with WB many moons ago(magic pink around some graphics, etc.). Does Direct Skin require some kind of 3D acceleration? Celeron 2.0gig Intel 82865G Graphics (Yuck) 768meg Ram WinXP sp2

Pros: It doesn't default to “foo copy.jpg” the way PS does. Doesn't treat the edge of the graphic as a hard edge. If you have something that is outside the bounds it still thinks it is there. With PS it will ignore things that run off the edge and tends to treat the edge as the end of the graphic. I like the way it does stroke. Currently I am doing something were I need to circle things and it is very handy. Cons: The save

...but if I had a 64-bit machine I would choose the x86_64 option. Depends how much you enjoy being a beta-tester and being in a multi-library funhouse. It was cool for awhile but I am going to make the switch back to x86. I wanted to get away from Windows to avoid headaches, not give me more.<

You might want to check out the documentation from gentoo even though you don't use it. They tend to have excellant forums, IRC, documentation, and wiki's. Since there is no graphical install they are forced to provide decent documentation for how to do most things. http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/index.xml?catid=desktop http://forums.gentoo.org/ http://gentoo-wiki.com/Main_Page The wiki is not part of the actual gentoo

I have been getting into using my work machine from home using remote desktop. I love my skins and background at work but they bog down the remote desktop. Does anyone know a good way to flip between an absolute plain 16 color desktop to my usual mess of shapes, colors, and swirls?

Just say "NO" to avatars and sigs. The average age of visitors will by 10 years as soon as you go to it. Just who would want to moderate them? Quickly you would have cat fights over what is generally accetable vs free expression. I have also seen too many forums that were torture for 56k users. Do we really want to alienate the 50% of the population that still uses 56k? Few banner ads are as irritating as blinking, flashing and poorly animated avatars.

My system: Spybot with its immunize feature Google search bar with pop-up blocking on Proxomitron set to medium I run spybot about once a month. Last time I did it found around 10 bad things. I have given up running anti-virus programs in live protection mode. I found a program that tracks calls to the regestery and discovered that Norton and RealPlayer were constantly making calls. Now I just run a scan at night. I am behind a firewall and get most of my mai

(sarcasm tag)(in hi and shrill voice) How dare you post this garbage on a skin site. Just what political arguement you trying to start? This is so wrong. I think I will go somewhere that only talks about skinning. Oh, I guess there are none. Well this is still wrong! (sarcasm tag off) Reminds me of the Mac nuts discussed on the message board.

Why is the "Daily shot" not required to be a .suite? More then once I have wanted something similar find out that it is just a screenshot without much explanation and no associated .suite. It one of the few things that bother me about this site. Well that and ratings but "Lets not go there".

The world as a whole is getting better. It is a common misconception that the world is about to self-destruct. World hunger is down, and could be lower if it wasn't for the EU, people are living longer, pollution is down, infant mortality is down, our water supply is cleaner. In the US there was this big debate about the gap between the poor and the rich. How many families have more then one car, VCR/DVD player, and TV and yet consider themselves barely getting by? 6 years ago I had to buy a new

Thanks to hardware acceleration and using extra video RAM on most new cards, WindowBlinds should be noticeably faster than using the bundled themes in Windows XP. Has Nvidia ever enabled this in their drivers or does this still only apply to ATI and Matrox cards?

I managed to see one of Bill Haast's snake milking shows back in the 70's when I was a wee lad. He milked a wide variety of cobras, rattlesnakes, vipers etc. He played with them and had them follow his hand before extracting the venom. The only one he took seriously was a krait. He handled it's box gingerly and seemed very nervous. He flipped it onto the table and it instantly shot off the table towards the crowd. The only thing seperating the table from the crowd was a velvet rope. He

Have you considered putting all skinning aps in one spot? That would eliminate the need to search various places for cursor xp, object dock, etc... You could put them into the catagories of Skinning Aps, Skins & Themes, Utilites, Chat, News, Games, etc. I think that would help to make it simpler to use. I am not sure if it would be a good idea, but you might consider adding controls for all the skinning aps as well. It could be your one stop place to update your aps, download skins, an

Objects (the sounds of "Trouble" from "The Music Man" starts up) What you need my friend is objects! This is the sure fired cure for what ails you! You keep downloading themes that cause you headaches? One part looks kool when the rest of the theme makes you question skinners sanity or taste? Then you need OBJECTS! What you want to do is take that object that makes you drool and save it as.... as.... an... you guessed it... OBJECT. Next you use the LOT, thats Least Objectionable The

I was hoping to spark some conversation about things that are user hostile with skinning. I can't count the number of times I have seen neat looking skins that were unusable because of tiny or unreadable fonts/buttons, color schemes that fade buttons or text into the background, noisy backgrounds that overwhelm text, etc. Does anyone know why MS decided to move the close program button next to the min and max buttons? That has always seemed like a step backwards to me. Overall

I thought this was news worthy because: A. It was written by Eric S. Raymond. The author of "The Cathedral & the Bazaar" and has been one of the major contributors to the open source movement. Him being critical of Linux is like Steve Ballmer being critical of Windows. B. He is talking about software interfaces. Something I thought most people here would find interesting, since this whole site is dedicated to changing the way you interface with software. C. I was not t

If it was my money I would go with the 9600pro. The 9800se is so cheap because they really slow the clock down on the chip. You get some extra features on the 9800se that will might help with games that haven't even been released yet but the clock on the 9600pro is faster. If you have the extra $10 go for the 9600xt it is the fastest clock of the bunch. 9600XT/ *500MHz* Memory 128MB DDR *650MHz* 9600PRO/ *400MHz* Memory 128MB DDR/ *600MHz* 9800SE/ *325
