Hi folks, I know that some of the limits are frustrating to the modders. The reality is that many of them can't be changed because of stability problems when approaching RAM limits (if somebody makes a mod that eats up 4GB of memory, it's going to crash on most machines) and/or UI/design considerations (redesigning the engine to support an infinite number of ships, for instance). However, I can tell you that we are aware of the limits and hope to increase some of them for the
psugar
Lying to the game about how many tracks are included will also mean that the game will ignore all the files you lied about :P The limit is hard at the moment unfortunately, but it's also shared with all the other sounds in the game, ie, if you removed one of the lines from the TEC light frigate, you could add in another music track.
You need to edit the entity files that are in text format, they're in the reference data section of the modding tools. You can open those files with notepad.
A galaxy (ie map) file.... I don't know how you got that... check in your sins/galaxy directory. I'm not sure I understand the second question. It wouldn't matter if you had a lot of entries in the sounddata files - although it might cause problems loading - it certainly wouldn't cause other files to go missing. The Galaxyscenariodef.galaxy seems to be a totally separate issue.
Oh crazy, I just noticed: you actually have a map file called GalaxyScenarioDef.galaxy. You should probably delete that! It may work when you insert the normal files because you aren't exceeding the limit for the number of music tracks, which is why I'd suggest adding in a few at a time and seeing how it behaves.
Well, there are a few problems here. The easiest to fix is the GalaxyScenarioDef one, looks like you have a missing label at line 1, you may have accidentally deleted a line in there. The first two may be the result of trying to add too many music files, I'd pare it back a bit and see if those still happen. Not sure about the third atm.
Aractain is right... you have an empty line at 235.
It's a problem with DirectX somehow losing the input from the keyboard. Usually it's fixable by alt-tabbing back out and in again...
Channeled means it uses up AM at a rate and lasting until all AM is depleted rather than using up a big chunk of AM and then lasting for a fixed duration.
Actually Azzizi, so far as I know the binary->text conversion was added in for the 1.05 release of the tools.
You could do it in Galaxy Forge by double clicking the planet to get to the item editing section, then turning off the default planet template, and adding your own stuff in there.
The gameplay constants file has a bunch of speed variables which you can change. Search for "buildSpeedData-Slow" and you'll see a bunch of different speed variables.
Do you have 1.05?
Have you tried these? 1) Go to the sound settings and move the sliders on to cause a quick volume reset. 2) Make sure you have the latest drivers for your sound card 3) Make sure you don't have something strange running in the background (youtube always causes problems for me). 4) Turn bloom off if you have it on. Try turning down your graphics settings. 5) Open your user settings file (in the Settings directory of the game install directory) and set SoundUseHardware to TRUE.
Are you running 1.05?
My apologies, I had thought this was a mistake, but apparently it was removed because it was exploitable in multiplayer. Jamie's answer was the correct one, sorry.
Hey folks, It looks like this was a mistake that made it through testing, it should be back in 1.1.
The latest version should be 1.05, mikesobo... grab that and check.
sharkyrockon: What does the box say?
Ok, good to hear. Here's something to try if anybody else has this problem. Maybe what is happening is that you have only a single ring where planets are allowed, and it has a really small area. Try turning the maximum distance up and the minimum distance down.
What are your system specs? Have you checked your virtual memory settings? (Control panel/System/Advanced/Performance/Advanced)
What are your system specs? Have you updated all your drivers, particularly your video card drivers?
Can you turn up the phase lane connectivity and see if that helps?
