I thought the patches had fixed the fact that the AIs will gang up on players. Picture this - me and my friend playing on a larger (8 core systems and one big middle one) version of the Systems at War map. We are CONSTANTLY having to move back and forth through our planets to defend one AI or another trying to nip at our planets. Of course, the moment our fleet gets back, they turn tail and warp away. This goes on for hours until she (understandably) gets frustrated at the AIs "p

I can tell you the Minor Race Tech Tree is very similar to the original DA tree that every race had, with the addition of the Fleet Warp Bubbles, Fleet Attack, Fleet Defense techs/components. I'm using it as the base for my custom race (YAY EDITOR.)

What you also have to realize is that a lot of us old coots remember PC gaming back in the days when ALL gaming was something that only nerds did because the football players would beat them up if they went outside (or other such nonsense and lies of the 80s and early 90s). Now that gaming has gone mainstream, while the market has gotten bigger, it's gotten bigger in that frat-boy football-jock department. These are not the same kind of people who could sit down in front of say, Legend

I'm 20 so I'm just a few hops ahead of you, man. I was definantly not the normal type of person - I didn't look the part of a geek but I sure played one. Let me tell you, do what you enjoy and don't sweat other people. I only see the people I went to highschool with when I'm buying stuff at Walmart and they're working the counter. They won't matter to you in 6 years. Do what you love, love what you do.

You guys are Stardock, not some sucky game company. As such, we consider you humans and not codemonkeys, and our friends. Get rest. The beta can wait - your health cannot. This is an order from your fans! GET TO THE RESTING :D

I really like the idea of doing a freighter-like upgrade system, as long as I have the option to let the mini-freighter sit at the Starbase during either war or when I feel the base is upgraded enough. This is one of the better suggestions on the idea I've seen, especially if one can put more engines on it to have a base constructed faster (quicker movement to the originating world.)

[quote] Allow ships to carry multiple constructor modules. This works just as it sounds, as your miniaturization tech goes up and you get larger hulls, you can add more then one constructor module to the ship. You can then build with all of these modules when you build/upgrade a starbase. Of course if you don't use them all in one shot, the extra modules disappear. This will remove some of the drudgery of building and managing all t

I have to say, the negative population for positive boosts idea is pretty handy. I may borrow it for some of the more evil races in my custom setup, too... well done.

The Terrans have a huge economic bonus however. Trading for economic bonuses usually helps me, however IMO the game should be perfectly playable for each race without needing to trade for other race's unique bonuses. That said, this is beta. I'm patiently waiting to see what comes up through further testing. The races all need a little or a lot of rebalancing and I'm pretty sure SD knows this.

I would LOVE No Tech Brokering. But I'd also love the "No trading other race's special techs." I'd like to be able to help out the people I choose with my racial techs without them getting spread all over the freaking galaxy.

I would love the idea of being able to liberate races old planets to reinstate that race as a close or allied civ instead of forcing them to incorporate into your race.

I'm torn... I want to play this game with my friend, as she and I both play this game pretty heavily. However I've played Civ IV and going to play multiplayer with it is... a totally fail-tastic experience. Most games are military slugfests and no more, more about who can kill who with what units fastest than actually relaxing and enjoying the game, and GalCiv would be a poor game for that. I'd really, really love a PBEM type option, though...so much.

I agree. Besides, I just finished my TA Race mod for my custom race, including a tech tree, and whenever the next beta comes out, I have to port it forward!

Love your work, LS. Your input on ToTA and your unique insight into the graphics engine promises this will be a spectacular mod, like the others. Will it still be like the original, in which messing with the XML files for the graphics will render it metaverse-incompatible, and if so, how much can you actually change without that happening? I love your mod, but I like to play in the metaverse too. And very good work on the ToTA graphics for planets. Not to knock the g

I was doing a little mod for my own personal enjoyment for the recent TA beta - no, I can't wait for the Thalans :D and I noticed a problem that's VERY prevelant throughout the Customplanets.xml file... (RAWTerrain)Thala.raw(/RAWTexture) The opening and closing bits of this xml tag are different. Stardock guys, may want to look into this :D That can't be good, who knows what kind of wierd stuff it's causing in the background.

This is why I don't play with Mega Events. They're supposed to shake up the galaxy, but usually all they ever do is make it harder to play the way I want to, and I end up fighting one super-race instead of the AIs. Plus the AIs have ABSOLUTLY NO CLUE how to deal with these super-enemies and just get wiped off the map by me or them. Plus the mega-spies event can cripple the entire game. >_>

14 Replies 7,243 Views

My big problem with spies is generally I get more bang for my buck with ships at anything past 2000bc a spy. That's ludicrous - plus I've had spies on the Torian words, 7+, for a full year after having max intel and they still aren't stealing any techs. How irritatingly useless.

They only survey with thier Flagship, and they only mine with thier space miners. Bug, probabaly, or feature, im not sure.

It's probably a bad sign that one of the first things im going to do when TA is fully out as far as modding goes is make the Drengin and Korath more seperate, and give them a real super ability - Super Dominator sucks.
