the New Oxford Annotated Bible is considered, in the academic community at least, the most linguistically accurate bible printed in English Somehow I'd missed that version, so I appreciate you pointing it out. I think I'll have to buy a copy of that. The annotations, translation work, and included scholarship is better than I've ever seen in a single collected volume.

It seems to me all this anger is woefully misdirected. The real problem here is the people that "sold" you the game. All they sold you was their backup discs, as long as they retain control of the activation they can freely download the game again, discs or no discs. You got scammed, plain and simple. Take it up with the seller.
Do you really, honestly believe that we non-believers are non-believers because we haven't heard this before? In my experience atheists, agnostics, and various other post-Christians tend to be better versed in Biblical literature and scholarship than the nominal adherents of the faith (on average). I'm aware that your particular sect encourages you to go forth and "witness" but this kind of cookie cutter, threat based proselytizing can't be very effective for securing new adherents. The internet
If you're going to add an anomaly event, do those of us who don't like them a favor and let us finally and truly turn the things off, would you?
I disagree that it's not already a classic. Simply put, I've never played a better 4x TBS game, period. I chalk that up partly to good design and partly the the absence of a multiplayer mode draining resources away from the SP experience, which is all I care about and neglected in most games of this genre.
Wow, he complains, HAS THE CEO OF THE COMPANY PERSONALLY RESPOND IN 7 MINUTES TIME TELLING EXACTLY HOW TO FIX HIS PROBLEM, and still complains of poor service. Wow. Yeah, it really DOESN"T get any better than Stardock customer service. Short of Brad showing up at his house and clicking the link for him, I really don't see how this could have been better handled.
Bummer. The Korx were the only evil race I really enjoyed playing and the Drath were the most challenging "good" opponent in a number of my games. It's a pity they won't be in future games. Still, kudos to the developers for having the nads to kill off whole civilizations in the name of story.
Thanks for the explanation Wyndstar, it would never have occurred to me that anyone would find that kind of play entertaining. I guess there's no end to the diversity of tastes this game can appeal to... And kudos to Cari for apparently resolving this whole thing while we were all still arguing about it.
Emphasis on ANNOYING, especially if you save and reload each turn ... Why on Earth would anyone do that?
I think most of us would probably argue that this isn't a "bug" at all Even the developers know this is a bug, and have said as much - how do these kind of statements originate is beyond me. And why someone would want the devs to waste an entire patch cycle to "fix" something completely irrelevant is beyond me, so I guess we're going to have to agree to mutual lack of com
Since when does a bug not need to be fixed? This premise by some is rediculous. I think most of us would probably argue that this isn't a "bug" at all, and the notion that the entire engine needs to be redesigned because of a design decision that results in a spectacularly minor AI benefit (which, at worst, very slightly counteracts the massive benefit the human player has in being able to save and load freely in the first place) is in fact what's ridicu
I think most folks are missing the point here. He is asking about GC2:DL, NOT DA. In DL, those trash planets are never going to get very good. In DL there are no PQ 1-3 planets so the point is moot.
Well, they can. Just use the game setup screen. He knows, he was just highlighting the fact that the person complaining about mega events being unbalancing was, to put it gently, completely missing the point. Anyway, I know this situation is still an irritation to me as well. I can see how tweaking mega events would be a ways down the list as far as fixes and adjustments go (and I know the current betas are primarily centered around performance
What difficulty/AI intelligence are you playing on? Do you have the latest updates?
Buy the gold edition. Good as GC2 is, it's markedly better with the expansion (and new stuff's still being added to DA).
This doesn't look significant enough to be worth the expenditure of resources it would require to fix it IMO. I'd much rather see new features or fixes to more substantial bugs.
The DL mega event is so underpowered it's laughable, I can't imagine why it would be giving you problems. Just invade and destroy them the instant they pop up, they spawn with no defenses at all.
It's a scenario/mod and, based on past experience with Civ mods that tried to massively alter the underlying game to fit another genre, it won't be very good.
Honestly my two favorite RTS's of the last several years are Dawn of War: Dark Crusade and Rise of Nations: Throne and Patriots. I've been playing RoN on and off since the release of the original game 4 years ago, which easily makes it the RTS with the best legs in my gaming history (and I've played most major releases in the genre back to Herzog Zwei, which invented it). I'm big into single player, though. If you're after a good MP game specifically I wouldn't be able to help you.
Another thing I've noticed is that there hasn't been any mention of the A.I! Not a word! It was good in WarCraft III but perhaps that was simply since it's so incredibly fast. WC3 ended up being a challenge because the AI could micromanage so much better than you (and it's such a micro heavy game, which isn't really a knock against it as it does it all very well). I'd forgotten about SC's AI but you're right, I suppose it's anot
My standards in RTS games have been raised considerably since Starcraft. If it's still just a linear, story driven campaign (ie. no strategic layer) I won't be bothering with it. Starcraft was the best RTS of its day, but it's been easily surpassed by the likes of Rise of Nations and Dawn of War: Dark Crusade in the intervening time. None of the prepress I've seen indicates that Blizz is prepared to raise the bar. In fact, my general sense is that they're going to change as little as possible in
The AI races seem to make peace with them relatively quickly That's a bug, actually. No one is supposed to be able to negotiate with the Dread Lords.
-A Dreadlord mega-event that doesn't suck? Seriously, they can be taken out in a single turn using a single transport, because they have no ships to defend themselves. Amen.
That's a map of the cosmic background radiation (the most temporally distant radiation visible) from the WMAP project. It has no connection to the possibility of life insofar as I know, and any news report that said it did was likely sensationalizing for the benefit of ratings (imagine that). That's particularly sad since both the image and its implications are very, very cool without need for any alien-related mumbo-jumbo to be attached to them.
I think you've got the right perspective on "cranky" folks, Brad. The simple fact of the matter is that Stardock's record of support for its products pretty much speaks for itself. It's awfully hard to see the vague bitching as anything other than unfounded as a result. Even if that some day changed, the kind of post you describe is utterly useless. If one can't get the support and assistance one needs, or if one feels a product is "unfinished and never should have been released" it seems to me
