If ever there was a game that proves that a focussed SP experience is fundamentally better than the SP component of a game with both MP and SP elements, it's GC2.

Not even close, the two are vastly different from each other. Well, yes, they're of two different genres. Nevertheless RoN retains a lot of the "feel" of Civ, incorporates an abnormal number of TBS ideas considering it's an RTS, and I have to admit has had more staying power on my hard drive than any Civ title to date. Civ's so light on history it seems reasonable to have a light game to accompany it, I suppose. At least that's my opinion. <br/

steam forces the updates down your throat in order to help with their online anti-cheating software (VAC) -- at least for online games -- me, I only play Counterstrike and other half-life games on it, and its never bugged me about anything other than slowing my PC down on startup when it loads, but what auto-loading program doesn't? I've been told by numerous other Steam users that auto-load can be turned off.

If you have older Valve games from before Steam(Half Life) it will take those games and transfer the files and such to where it essentially can only be played through steam just like the newer ones. It only does this with older Valve games, not other games I might own that are also available via Steam? Say, Civ 4 or X3?

The main problem is that steam automatically updates your game regardless of if you wanted the update or not. This is the case even if you're running the game in "offline mode?" I wouldn't think it would know. You can't manually patch down?

I'm not entirely sure what you mean. You don't have to "activate" abilities in-game, if that's the issue. They're always "on."

Incidentally there's no trading AI to overhaul Which probably is the problem right there. No doubt about it, but changing that is definitely outside the scope of a patch.
