EaW held my attention for a few days, then I sold it on eBay. I've been playing Dark Crusade since it came out and am unlikely to stop. In addition to the marvelous, replayable, non-linear strategic campaign (turn based, incidentally, not real time like EaW's) even the skirmish has an enormous amount of depth. If difficulty is a concern, I strongly recommend the Dawn of Skirmish AI mod. The AI opponent is optimized by high end multiplayer gamers to emulate and respond to human strategies. It's a

It's a very cool little indie strategy game with an unusual structure and a great setting. The demo sold me on it as well.
There's a reason there's a toggle for mega events. You don't like them. That's fine, you don't have to play with them. Leave those of us that enjoy a challenge to our game and we'll leave you to yours.
Q: Does the game come with a campaign? A: NO. Instead, the game comes with a much richer single player "skirmish" experience than most RTS's. Sins supports random map generation, a powerful in-game map designer, etc. Normally, RTS's have campaigns but their skirmish-modes limit users to a handful of pre-made maps. We've banked on players preferring to create their own epics over having us provide a pre-canned one.
Have I mentioned recently how f***ing great you guys
Thanks for the answers. Between that, the random map generator, and the fact that the focus is on skirmish (instead of a campaign I'll play one mission of and then abandon) you've probably got a sale. I may wait for the demo to be sure, but I'd be very surprised if you didn't end up with my money. :D
7. Please make a sequel to Planetscape: Torment. Please do NOT make a sequel, but please DO make another game in the same setting. Too many games have been set in the traditional D&D Forgotten Realms settings (at least 7 that I can think of), so something different would be nice.
That I can agree with. Planescape had a brilliant plot but terrible gameplay (it would have made a much better novel, to be frank). The setting's interesting, however, and anything non-tradi
How's the AI? I'm unlikely to ever play the game MP, so it needs to be worth its purchase price for the single player component alone.
The design templates are an absolute blessing to me because no, I can't be bothered to make ships look good myself. I appreciate the flexibility and depth of the ship designer, but in practice I'm here to play a strategy game, not use an art tool set.
I usually play neutral, as it fits both my temperament and my play style. Sometimes I'll play good for a challenge, though.
This is one of my favorite mega events, precisely because it radically rebalances the game. All of a sudden it really feels like space. Your oldest vessels are the ones at the front, your newest are still travelling out to meet the enemy, it's all very Ender's Game or Forever War. Very very cool, I'd be extremely upset if it were removed. However, it's long been suggested that there be toggles for individual mega events in the options screen, and I suppose that's the best route
I agree with everything but 7, Planescape was the worst of the Infinity engine games. I don't care how good its plot may have been, the actual gameplay was atrocious. If you really enjoy reading a novel in the guise of playing a game, I hear Mass Effect has the same excess of dialogue.
You seem to be looking for some kind of "super unit." GC2 is smart enough not to include one, I doubt they're going to start now.
Merry Xmas to the Frog and everyone at Stardock, you've helped make it a great year for strategy gaming. I can't wait to see what you do in 2008. Cheers!
The Thalans and the Altarians are not enabled for this beta as was previously scheduled because they are going to be wicked cool and with all the excitement of Christmas we were concerned for your heart condition. We are not stupid. Just tell us you're not finished with them.
They don't think you're stupid, they just made the mistake of thinking you had a sense of humor.
I really hate to see something I spent two years building get torn apart by a tiny fighter with 1 attack power that jumped my vision range.... >. You probably shouldn't have left that thermal exhaust port exposed. ;)
Also, does stating construction on a Terror Star result in other races hating you very rapidly?
If it doesn't, it certainly should.
Science fiction, classically, is often a warning about technological hubris. What better way to convey "don't become too dependent on technology" than to have that technology attain sentience and try to wipe out humanity?
Basically what the fans of MP are saying is how about a little programming be throw in our direction. No need for fans of SP only to be greedy.
You have virtually every other game on the market, it's not selfish of us to want to keep ONE for ourselves. What is says about you that every single game on the market (with no exceptions, like this one) must accommodate your niche interests, on the other hand, I leave to reader interpretation. I don't go to web sites for MP only
Do i want to wnt to play a unbalanced race and have a "win game" button? Yes.
That's... sort of pathetic, but to each their own. You can mod yourself a super race quite easily if that's actually your idea of fun, but honestly if you're not in it for the challenge what's the point of playing the game in the first place?
No, of course not, what would be the point of playing a race that unbalanced? Do you want a giant "win game" button too? The whole charm of the DL is that they're an unreasonably difficult enemy. As to them spawning more, they spawn in virtually all of my DA games, but since they start so weak they never become a real threat. The need a head start when they spawn so they can reach their full potential faster and be a proper mega-event, here's hoping they get that in TA.
Further proof that you can literally have some of the best game support in the industry and there will still be people chucking bricks at your windows. You can't please all of the people all of the time indeed.
My rig's only two years old, but this multi-core processor business seems to be prematurely aging it. It's enough to make a person stop bothering, really. Pity console games are simply inferior IMO to PC games...
It was a good game in its time, but its time is long past. Any RTS worth playing these days, IMO, has a map-based, non-linear campaign and more than three distinct factions. Wow. In one extremely biased sentence you just decried as "not worth playing" Supreme Commander, Command and Conquer 3 (Not to mention every previous C&C game), Battle for Middle Earth (sure, four factions, but o
SD Central is better than disc based DRM any day of the week.
I admit, I tend to role-play to some degree in 4x games as well. It makes the game more enjoyable to craft the story of your civilization as it progresses (that sounds terribly hokey when I write it down). It makes for good AAR's, too.
Unbelievable work. Seriously, this is practically a sequel, again. If you keep completely reinventing the game every year like this there's really going to be no need for a GC3.
