Welcome!Be sure to get the expansions as well, DA adds a lot of new features and TA, while still beta, is already very playable and near release!
He got the gold edition, so he already has DA. And welcome Zellio, hope you enjoy the game as much as we do. :)

There are two pirate events, a "regular" one and a "mega" one. You might have gotten the former, which wouldn't be very challenging. I certainly hope that's what happened, the whining about mega events being "too hard" drives me up the wall.
Check out Sins' demo first, it's not for everyone. I wish someone had told me that, suffice it to say.
Do the licenses on most games preclude reselling (and they are just ignored)?
I'm certainly not aware of any such preclusion, and the resale market for such things would certainly suggest that there's either not, or that no one actually cares.
There should be a warning about the inability to resell, in all fairness, on the box. I understand why Stardock operates this way and I still buy their products while fully apprised of it, but it comes as a rude shock to a lot of folks who, like myself with other game purchases, rely on the ability to resell software as a hedge against game purchases that don't work out. It was never a problem with GC2, obviously, but I'd sell Sins if the option were there. That purchase, and the fact that I can
I've played immense/all rare a few times lately. Now *that* is empty space.
How's the AI under those circumstances? I've not worked my way up to that kind of scale yet, but I've always thought it would be interesting.
Direct digital download "mini expansions" would be the least offensive system. A subscription system involves a level of long term commitment on the part of the customer. I've gone as much as a year without playing GC2 even though I love the game. I always come back, but I wouldn't want to maintain a subscription if I wasn't actively playing the game. That sense of commitment to something that's supposed to be entertainment is what's kept me away from subscription based MMO games, as well. Payin
I usually play common or below, I like space to feel like space: big and empty.
Glad to see you guys expanding an excellent business model and finding new revenue streams. What impact, if any, does this have on Stardock's own development schedule? While I enjoy a good RTS, adore RPG's, and Demigod looks interesting, I have to admit I'm far more interested in your future turn based offerings.
Best of luck!
I feel an urging to resurrect my Mega Events explanation for new players thread...
It couldn't hurt, that was a great post.
I'm not saying all mega events are over powered just this one.
That's true, but you've misinterpreted what that means. Many mega events are underpowered, the JK event is what mega events should look like. The whole idea is for a radical, game altering change that abruptly makes the game very different (and ideally more challenging). Mega events are there for veteran players who get bored once the gradual climb to victory has reached a certain point and want
As others have said it's a mega event, they're supposed to be overpowered. If you don't want to deal with radical, game altering events you have the option to turn them off.
As for GC3 and multiplayer...I look forward to GC3 of course...but i could care less about multiplayer....It's a turn based game!!GC3 could be like Sins of a Solar empire, an RTS/4X, but with more diplomacy and other 4X features. Just a thought.
Why on Earth would anyone want that? Sins does fine at being Sins, why make another game like it? Far better (and far more important, IMO) to keep a strong line of 4X TBS space games coming out. The gaming world is full of strong
It never occurred to me not to use it. I turned it on when it was introduced and haven't turned it off since.
Ironclad has already stated that they want to do a campaign, but have some unique ideas of how to do it so it's done right (since they don't like tradition RTS campaigns), and they plan to put it in an expansion. Case closed.More here:Ironclad Interview-HM
That's actually pretty encouraging. It'll be interesting to see what exactly they have in mind.
It's been in the works for better than a decade, so I'm pretty sure it's vaporware. Even if it weren't, they've siad it's going to be an MMO (presumably an MMOTBS) so it'll be worthless regardless.
Am I the only RTS player on Earth that regards linear, "story based" lead-you-by-the-nose campaigns in RTS games as boring, pointless, and unplayable? I mean, add a metamap campaign or some other kind of higher level strategic layer and I'm interested, but I can't imagine bothering to play through a story campaign in a game like this. Strategy games simply aren't good story telling devices IMO. Oh, and you should be appealing to Ironclad. Stardock may be an unusually involved publisher
Actually I really like his suggestion. I'll see what I can do. This is the first beta with significant AI changes since Dark Avatar. Hopefully you're already starting to notice improvmeents (mostly Drengin AI).
Then I'll just say "great!" and shut up. :D
Thanks for the quick response. I suppose I'll just get the digital download. Paying an extra $35 (including shipping) for the Gold Box + TA vs. the Ultimate Bundle probably isn't worth it for a few printed manuals, especially considering that I can simply archive the games through Stardock Central.
Stardock's post release support is so good that the manuals tend to get outdated pretty quickly anyway. Your best resource tends to be this forum, we try to be a helpful bunc
Every game has "legitimate" elements to criticize. But in order to justify a 6/10, you have to also argue that Sins is about the worst game that's come out in the last couple of years.
Yeah, considering the way most games are reviewed 6/10 is excessively harsh by any standard. Of course that's partly the fault of a game review press that rates games on a scale where 6 or 7 is bad and 10 is good. What are all those other numbers for, anyway? :D
Ron is similar to the Civ games, in that nothing is to scale. The scale is what gives Sins its epic feel, while the gameplay mechanics of RoN are more like a 4x game.
Heh, yeah, that scale thing has always bothered me in Civ. Honestly, games where everything is pretty much to accurate scale are quite rare, Sins is rather unique in that regard.
I likewise apologize for anyone who read my inaccurate initial response to this comment during the few minutes it was up. I misread the post and reacted too quickly.
I actually see what you were reacting to now more clearly, I said "No, I believe the ships in the demo are the whole roster" when I meant it was the whole TEC roster. That was my bad, and if it gave a false impression about the game it genuinely wasn't intentional. Are you able to edit responses, because that
1. Are there more ships/buildings/upgrades in the full game. In the demo there were only about 15 ships and 3 ship types (frigate, cruiser, capital), are there more ships and goodies in the full game or is this it? The demo is missing 2/3 of the ships in the game and each race has a unique variant of a specific ship role type, it isn't a simple art swap.
If I somehow inadvertently gave the impression that it was a simple art swap, rather than a case of many of the s
See, I'm amused that they gave it 60%, and yet the review factors add up to give 72.5%.(See the bottom of the page)That was the first thing I calculated after I read the review. Apparently the reviewer does not know how add and divide.
On the reviews page it clearly says:
Know that the overall score is not an average, rather a number that the reviewer feels is appropriate.
This is a standard disclaimer, you'll find the same on IGN or Gam
