Ouch. Just when you think you know a guy - or, in this case, an alien. The Korx should still be trustworthy, though. They obviously have a vested interest in your survival. Excellent update, Admiral. Sorry I wasn't much help in getting it posted, but I'm still wishing you luck in the future. Terra Victus!

In order to make an alliance with an alien race, your relationship with them needs to be "Close." Getting from Friendly to Close is a real pain in the ass, so here are some tips: 1. Trade is your friend. The more the AI depends on trade with you economically, the more they'll like you. 2. A strong military will make other nations take you more seriously. 3. Friendships appreciate with age - have good relations with an alien race long enough, and you'll get a diplomacy

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, or [Insert Religion-Appropriate Greeting Of Your Choice Here]. Free PQ72s to all, and to all a good night. And the picture of the Drengrinch is awesome.

Being ignorant of history isn't the same thing as falsifying it. (albeit the end results can be frightening alike!) That's why I said borderline . That said, I think its safe to say that this thread is long past its period of usefulness, so I'm off to observe its inevitable collapse from a safe vantage point.

Actually the Earth is closer to the Sun in northern hemisphere winter than in northern hemisphere summer. This would imply to me that in the southern hemisphere, summers would tend to be warmer and winters would tend to be colder than in the northern hemisphere. I don't know if this is true or not, perhaps this effect is mitigated by the fact that there's more water in

Incidentally, for those of us not in the DA beta, what exactly is the Jagged Knife? It sounds like some kind of reverse Fundamentalists, but that might just be wishful thinking. An evil version of the Fundamentalists would be, like, made of awesome.

Erm...where's he claim that? http://www.st-v-sw.net/STSWcompare.html#Planets Here's a page where he estimates them to have about a million star systems under control. His wording is a bit confusing, but if you read his writeup about the Federation too, he's using "member" to refer to those planets which are akin to states with full governance as opposed to the inte

Hmmm. That would be a hard mod to do! Particularly since Trek out-techs Wars by a lot, I'm not sure there's a way to make it a fair fight without compromising canon in this format. Though if you really do want to try tackling something that complex, this site: http://www.st-v-sw.net/STSWhi2.html has some very good comparisons. The author clearly has too much time on his ha

No, your opinion is valid. Everybody loved Farscape and Firefly (except Sci-Fi and Fox, but we've already established that they're idiots). I just don't happen to agree with you on Stargate. I watch it because it has a working combination of serious drama and comedy (similar to GC2's, actually), and manages to focus on scientific stuff and get it right . It's also interesting to watch Earth grow from "insignificant nuisance" to "galactic superpower" over the course of ten seasons.<b

Hithesus is a girl?!? Way, waaay back, there was a debate about how there seemed to be no female characters in GC2. The debate was finally settled when someone from Stardock said, "Fine, the Thalan ambassador is female." It's not much to go on, but a lot of elements of the AAR are based on minor things like that. Ford, Kuperman, Kazol,

I have good news, and I have bad news. The bad news is that I'm discontinuing the AAR. The good news is that it will be reborn once I get Dark Avatar. There are a few reasons for this. I never felt comfortable starting the AAR when I knew Dark Avatar and hundreds of story-improving features were coming just around the corner. I was very worried about where the current game was going. I lost my notes for the past game year. I'm getting a new computer for Christmas, and will have to aband

Some thoughts about this... Obviously, having two people control the entire empire at the same time is doomed to failure. You'd have planets attacking themselves and fleets trying to go in two directions at once. It'd be chaos. However, it might work (and would be very cool) if you designated one player as the "Leader," and the others as his "Admirals." The Leader controls the entire empire and can give orders to anyone, but he can also assign control of specific planets

Although I agree that spyware is bad, I really just don't see the problem with the stuff in Battlefield 2142. Start at the beginning - EA putting advertisements on in-game billboards. Big deal. Everybody does it, and unless you're worried about being distracted from your perfect headshot by a McDonald's ad, it has no effect on gameplay. Totally unobjectionable. The "spyware" is a little more understandable, but it seems to be an overreaction - they put software into the game th

Oh, come on. Like there aren't going to be a thousand GC mods for Sins. In fact, I'll go one step further and predict that in most of the mods the TEC will become the Terran Alliance, the Advent will become the Altarians, and the Vasari will become the Drengin. And who wouldn't want to fight the Drengin in real time?

The problem is that when I hit Post Comment it just stalls. I left my computer on all night, and the next morning it will still working. Dunno what to do... Again: I've had the same problem before. It will go away on its own after a week or two. However, you should be able to e-mail the update to someone and have them post it for you.

1st - It's BattleTech , not MechAssault . Heathen. 2nd - Gundam never leaves the Solar System. In fact, I'm pretty sure they never leave Earth's orbit. Not much room for a mod for a game based on interstellar strategy. 3rd - Both those universes are about ground combat. GalCiv2 is about civilization building and space combat. That said, a BattleTech mod might be a good idea. Wasn't there a plan to make one, way back?

@megvolt Cross-AAR trash-talking is not allowed. And if it is, it shouldn't be. Please post in your own thread. @Admiral Brooks I've had the same problem before. It will take a while, but eventually the problem should go away on its own. If you're in a hurry, e-mail it to me ([email protected]) and I'll post it for you.

Sounds interesting. Alternate history is always entertaining. Wishing you luck in your mission to give those filthy xenos what they deserve and ensure the triumph of the human race.
