I installed the game on my 8 year old son's computer, since he liked watching Dad create cool spaceships. He actually has a pretty good rig, but I am unable to use the depressed mousewheel button to allow for rotation of the image during shipbuilding (or even to rotate the map). He has essentially the same mouse I do (Logitech MX 510) which works fine othrwise and in other programs. The scrolling function also works fine. Without rotatio

I found that I'd create a base ship design with no "meaningful "components (just eye candy), but if I start up another game with a different race (same hull design though) I can't pull up the saved design for the new game. Even if the ship were a small hull size and I already had that hull tech capability. Hopefully, this upcoming change will fix this. I can't find the directory in the game where custom ships are saved. I was thinking a m

I am in the middle of a great game, in a huge galaxy on Normal difficulty. I am the top empire, but two others aren't far behind. I feel as though victory is assured at this point, but I don't want it to be--the game just started getting really interesting. I just want to make the AI more challenging, so that the game's ending isn't a foregone conclusion. I don't want to have to start a new game, either, since it took so long for me to get where I

Now that would be interesting--have each alien race have a recorded voice over instead of text. Shatner could be the Terran (although I picture Bruce Boxleitner, the guy from Babylon 5) more. Each of the actors that played the alien leaders would be interesting voice overs, in fact--especially Peter Jurassik, the guy who played Londo.

I have constructed a "carrier" complete with launch bay and "fighters", but it was all eye candy--not functional, but it looked great. The fighters were made by the smallest version of two types of ship jewelry--the one that looks like an old fashioned shuttlecraft from Star Trek, and the other looks like some kind of a trucated colonial fighter from Battlestar Galactica. (Search through the jewelry--you'll see which ones I mean). The landing strip in the bay can be made by the long flat h

You, my friend, are an artist. I thought my designs were good, until I saw your cinematic, epic-appearing ships. Awesome. I look forward to more of your ships. I also love the names--I tend toward those types of names as welll. The power of this ship designer is amazing. I would have bought this game for that alone.

How about the opposite of alliance--how do you request the surrender of an AI opponent? I just see "surrender" as a type of trade offer, which really means "I surrender". There isn't a surrender demand that I can find.

I would call "tiny" a heavy fighter, and " small" a gunboat. There was a posted gameplay example not long ago in which one of the Stardock guys came up with ship stats for each class (eg., size, crew, engines, etc). I think you make them up yourself.

Someone said something about "immersion". I think that's why we name our ships--a strategy game like this really has a "role playing" element if you will. The role is that of Galactic Commander, but if you take it seriously, you design and name your ships carefully to keep within that role--even if no one else will ever hear of or see your ship names (as in singleplayer games). I just can't send my battlecruiser "Smelly Old Socks" to hunt down and destroy my enemy's battleship "Chee

I like ship names that have something to do with the ship function---for example, a missile cruiser would be named "Ballistic", or "Javelin"; a colony ship would be "Populous"; a supply ship might be "Abundant", or "Replenisher". I also tend to add a prefix, like TAS (Terran Alliance ship) Resplendant, etc.

Wikipedia has lots of ship name lists, and I know that there are huge text files out there with potential ship names, based on themes, such as Hellenic Gods, Mythological figures, British Royal Navy ships (my favorite) and others.

Yeah, I'm big into having individual ships and fleets named. I like naming the first build of a ship as the progenitor for the class, and name the rest of the ships based on that design in a similar fashion. For example, I might have a "Storm" class destroyer, and subsequent ships of that class will be "Tempest", "Maelstrom", "Vortex", etc. Another example would be a "Broadsword" class battleship, with its sister ships being "Longsword", "Flail", and BattleAxe". The similarities in names wou

I have seen txt lists for ship names to be used in various games, e.g., a list of PanHellenic Gods, a list of medieval weapons, a list of star names, etc. I wonder if those lists could be imported. This is probably the same question raised by Citizen TS22.

Ya I know the Bismarck was a German battleship...but there was never a movie entitled "Sink the Hood!" I expect to get attached to units too...if I have a fleet headed by the dreadnaught Impenetrable, I'd call it the Impenetrable Battle Group, or something. I find that naming the ships and grouping them almost gives the game a...role playing element. I'd hate to just name a ship Exelsior 1002, and another Exelcior 1003 etc. Maybe for smaller ships I wouldn't mind as it would get
