I have similar class names to everyone else (eg, Excelsior, Executor, Indefatigable, Formidable, Diligent, Defiant)--essentially lots of ships ending with "-able" ,"-ent", "-ant", and "-or". If I have an experimental line of ships (for example, armed with missiles instead of the rest of the fleet, which uses beam), I whimsically name them by terms that signify going against prevailing belief--for example, Heretic, Apostate, Unforgiven, Irreverent, Infidel, Unrepentant, Exile, Damnable, Impertin

It would seem to be a problem only with the logitech mice, and I encountered it with both Setpoint (for the laser cordless) and Mouseware (for the wired optical) mice. Thanks for the suggestions. Maybe my fix wasn't optimum, but at least it works now. I may post this in a logitech forum, since it seems to be a problem with more than one type of game as well.

I read a few other old posts about the same thing, and figured out that using the setpoint software, if I reprogram the the scroll wheel button to function as "middle mouse button" instead of the default "zoom" it works. So, I solved the problem. Hope this helps for others with similar problems anyway. Bring on the expansion packs...

I've seen it reported before , but no solutions. I have two computers, both having Galciv 2 loaded, one having a Logitech MX1000 cordless laser mouse, the other having a corded MX510 optical mouse. The first uses setpoint software, the other uses mouseware. In both cases, if at any time during the life of the mouse, I reset the function of the middle button (for example, to play BF2 or something), and then I reset it back to default, I completely lose the rotational fuction of the depressed

To make both Enterprise and Reliant, you need to make a spoke ring, and at the end of the spokes, add the trapezoidal hull peices. Rotate them to make them almost flat. You have to make a second ring for the bottom. I inverted the Radio dish piece to make the center, and to finish off the saucer, you have to use the giant wheel like peice. You have to get it just right, in the middle. You add the Window sections to the perimeter of the saucer. The Enterprise requires the engineer

I created a starship Enterprise using no mods, (see the screenshot link here) http://img313.imageshack.us/img313/1153/enterprisebattle7yj.jpg and some folks suggested I upload it to the library for possible use in the Metaverse (because it was made without mods, I guess). What files or files do I have to upload? I know it says that they have to be zipped.

Yes, absolutely I would pay a measly ten bucks for hulls and jewelry. I find the ship designer to be as much fun as the rest of the game. In fact, I think of this as two games for the price of one! The same folks who want expansions for free just parrot what the rest of our society has learned--that they are entitled to have others labor for them for FREE. Get off your entitlement high horse people and cough up ten bucks for goodness sake. Support the few companies that cater to t

Great ship designs, guys. I like "spore"--it looks like what a military starbase should look like. Hey thats a cool idea--not only could we build our own custom ships, but how about using the ship designer to be able to build our custom starbases? Anyway, another Star Trek ship, the Reliant: "> <b

I liked Crusade, Insurrection, and In Death Ground; I got disinterested in the middle of Shiva Option, and haven't picked up the newest of the David Weber books written with Steve White. Never could get into the Honor Harrington universe though. I read a few, and maybe the political stuff dismayed me. (If peeps are leftist, is Manticore rightist?) Interestingly,I think there is a connection with Weber, and a pen and paper game called Starfire, and Starfire is supposed to be the i

I would love multiplayer, but alas, real life would intrude. It would never work out unless it were on a really tiny map in which a game could be concluded quickly. And that kind of map is not fun for me. Turn based multiplayer seems like it would be difficult to make work, compared to real time strategy or, of course, a real time shooter (like BF2). What if one player takes an hour to do a turn? The only turn based strategy game that was multiplayer I really saw work

By "mod", do you mean creating a series of ships that match the sSar Trek universe, just using the GalCiv2 shipbuilder, or do you mean creating Star trek ships using imported models from other programs or created from scratch? I already created some models (Enterprise, Klingon vessels) on display in the sticky thread, but all were made with the shipbuilder, no mods.

I don't have pkzip...the library requires submission in ZIP format. But I suppose I can download and install a trial version. The other thing is, exactly what files would I need to upload into the library in order to allow other users to access to these ships? I do have an entire fleet of various Klingon vessels, and the Enterprise (probably 20 hours work in all). No mods used. (Big ego boost if I shared and others liked them)

Click the second of the two links on each line. The first one doesn't work and I don't know how to clean it up without deleting both. For the Enterprise, well, expect to spend quite a few hours. I used a medium drengin hull, but you can't see any of it in the design anyway. Lots of use of long antennae with the hexagonal attachment modifier at the end, then more antennae to make the framework of the saucer section. <img src="http

The custom race would also need a custom AI to go with it. I suppose if you could program that in (and no doubt somebody has or will, in Mods) then it would work.

If major battles are won by conspicuous ships (I.e., the same battleship involved in fleets with multiple engagements), I think mention of that ship's name could be included in the story line: "At the third battle of Tacitus, the TAS RESPLENDENT lead the Terran fleet to victory despite heavy losses. The RESPLENDENT then led a successful offensive against the Drengin at Sauron". Etc.

Ha...Arilias. You noted my name? I came up with (Axel) Kane in a character for an old fashioned pen and paper RPG about twenty years ago, but I agree--that name too is overused. Neo is another really used name, even before The Matrix (aha-ANOTHER overused term too). Overused, but, still good. I like all of those terms. Along with the great ship names inherent in Star Trek lore, Star Wars, etc.
