The AI are using the speed themselves thanks to the new patch. I was getting used to them being able to cross large maps from early on with their range, but being slow at it. I could take down Dread Lord escorts quite easily by outstripping them all. Now, at start game, the only chance I have is my custom race's speed advantage, because even Early impulse driven ships seem to have 5 speed at least. It's annoying as hell, but they can't get my planets b

If you want all the hulls, you play battle of the gods scenario. It gives everyone every tech in the game. When you want to delete parts, select a different category (I.E. if you're in engine click on the weapon tab etc), this deselects everything. Click on the part in the interface to highlight it, then you can delete it without spending hours searching for it (I know what you mean though, I'm a sucker for wings and lights) As for custom pics, up

hmm, would ship designs be uploaded to the metaverse? I mean, if there was a designated area in the library, we could send our ship saved files there? It would be really cool if all those creative people put excellent ones up, and I just shove a Doom Ray or two on them. Gotta love Doom Rays, even if they are plasma 3 with better animation

Only the Hulls are different. Each race has a specific jewellery that fits it's style best, BUT you can choose it from any race, so it's a question of whether you want a big ugly piece of Yor machinery on a human ship. However, in the metaverse mod library, Darth Kyro made a mod that allows you to use any hull design by making them jewellery. This includes those extremely cool organic Dread Lord ships. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/sm

Surrender is a bit random, but on higher levels they dont surrender to the guys who are crushing them if they can help it. One large map I was playing that took me a few days, I was my custom race, and the Drengin were growing powerful. I'd given them some techs earlier to be friends, and they had in turn reserached Nano rippers and Psionic beams. 7 races were fighting the Drengin, with the Yor remaining out because they were allied to both me and Dren

With the money they demand from you, it's normally enough to buy a few state of the art ships designed specifically for smashing them to bits (Except in late game, where ships cost about 20,000bc to build and 50 per turn maintenance )

This is how I got into the game. Read Tycho's article, was amazed at the way it looked and sounded from Brad's gameplay article. Preordered it, and I love it. Especially my own human Drengin wars. Gotta love obliterating those scum

Money=Stable economy=Sliders up to max= Catch up/buy techs= get ahead in techs=sell for money= repeat as necessary. well it is said "There's nothing quite as wonderful as money"

My doom ray does have the Plasma 3 model, but what it fires is good old Dread Lord style purple spikey energy death. Anyone checked the code to see if the Doom Ray is merely miswritten, so the image doesn't load?

Torians must have luck then. I've found that in every game I play, if you're evil+powerful the Arceans WILL attack you. Doesn't matter about trade, gifts, fear, diplomacy, anything. They'll gun for you. Oh, and the Korx generally kiss my shin y pink behind.

I downloaded 1.0x, and I've noticed some things. Firstly, the AI has got harder due to the fact it now goes for speed. I nearly lost for the first time since getting properly into it (got pounded at first), and it can escape my ships now. But 3 things I've noticed that might be bugs; 1) Graphics on mini-map goes "odd", it becomes seperated, glitchy, and looks badly out of focus (The ownership areas) 2) Occasionally can't create a fleet. I've had that, when I've had those filthy Drengins use the technology I gave them (Psionic Beams and Nano Rippers- ouch) against me faster than I expected. My army wasn''t big enough to cope, and I wanted to ask the Thalans, who were warm towards the Drengin, to help me. They weren't allied, I was the only one with Allies. They didn't have the Drengin as an option, and they weren't already at war with them, although they had had a few skirmishes. A few

Thanks, it seems to work in IE. Which is annoying, because once I've got used to Opera IE is like trying to get a '95 to work after getting used to the style of xp

True. As for bigger and better, you reserach "Advanced Hulls" first, which does nothing major. Then medium scale building, which has higher HP, more space, lets you build capital and frigate sized ships. But that branch of the tech tree takes ages to get further than that, so just go with better weaponary. Medium size+phasors V= pwnage

Having won a few games on intelligent now, I decided it might be good to get a metaverse character. Only problem is, whenever I go to add character, I fill in the information, and it goes to processing date... for about half an hour. Then it'll time out. The whole time the page ISN'T loading, because I can see the refresh button is active, and in my browser it's only active when a page is idle. I'm using the Opera browser, do I need to do it in Explore

You don't get negative modifiers to loyalty, only no bonus modifiers. Perhaps loyalty bonus costs more for them? If it nags at you, change the xml file. The path is something like c/program files/stardock/totalgaming/galciv2/data/english/raceconfig.xml Just scroll down to the korx, and where it says 0 change it to something like -25 , which should give a -25% bonus to loyalty.

Colony rush doesn't decide the game. In my last game, as the Terrans, I was playing a large map, with 9 civs, all intelligent. I had 4 planets the entire game (Save when I finally got round to crushing the Drengin). I had about 6 research resources, and used them as best I could. All my planets were researc, as was my spending Naturally, I became filthy rich, set everyone at war, allied with the Altarians, started to rush buy an army, took my migh

if it's campaign, don't forget that that is what's supposed to happen. Not you dying, but the stupifyingly powerful ships. In fact, I think they show up occasionally on campaign aswell. Either way, unless you either have black hole guns or are rich enough to throw ships at them, they make toast of you. I can normally hold my own and even win on challenging, but the Dread Lords whip me on cakewalk <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/C
