Jamie, the AI follows the exact same rules. Some AI have slight research bonuses (Altarians) but not many. Build research worlds, focus them on research, and set spending to at least 60%, and then become a tech whore. They fall so far behind that I've had space marines before they got planetary invasion.

First, I'm going to have to say I DONT have any save files to back what I'm saying up. It's not a major thing, may not be a bug at all. But the computer AI is terribly slow at adapting ships to it's needs. That's not quite right, because It's adapted to totally expose my weaknesses and block my strengths before in as little as 4 turns, getting a brand new generation of fighters out. But (mainly in the laser tree) it doesn't upgrade these weapons. I've
Errr.... I can't see an image. Is this my Opera playing up again?
The Game is fine. I always play in intelligent, and frankly trash the AI on technology, even if my military lacks a bit because of this. As said before, the game isn't broke, you just aren't good enough. Don't blame the game, the AI is meant to tech trade. It's programmed to not know the difference between the other AI and you. If you cant keep ahead, that's your fault for not having a good enough strategy. Don't spam the forum. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Mad.gif" bord
In the beginning of the game, you cant build big ships anyway. You don't have the tech required. Just tweak all the abilities in the raceconfig.xml
I really think the council should have about 30 more different scripts Do it yourself. My council has a few more scripts, mostly along the lines of "give the poor people tech/money" like the ones already there, but better. And I made the planet one more common
They might have had the "xoneophiles" random event. This gives massive bonuses to influence, that aren't noted in the same turn unless a starbase is upgraded. That would have shown you the instant change in inf, and would explain it. I've had the event, and gone from about 40% of the galaxy to about 80%, taking over masses of planets thanks to the mind control wonder. It goes away eventually, but can take up to about 20 turns I think
Slash tax, build some VR centers. Change to imperial, and make them suffer for not voting for you! /whips peasants
Check whether your ships are available in the .xml files, if they're not it shouldn't be a problem to post the core designs up for you to put into the xml folder. If they are there, and you definately have all the tech's, then post your specs, to see if the Dev's think it's machine related, because I don't have it. And 8 hp/12hp fighters on a planet on tough are normal. I've hardly ever seen a fregate defending a planet, they're too valuable to waste sitting there when they could be attacki
It's designed because the AI doesn't know who's human and who's computer. The idea was occasionally, if you were behind in tech, it would offer a stupidly good trade. (I've had planetary invasion for laser 2), but of course it does to the AI as well. The only reason you complain is because you aren't tech whoring yourself. I generally keep weapons tech to myself, but if someone has something, I'll but it and then sell it to everyone before they do, so
oooooooh, nice /drools Didn';t stardock do this for Altarian prophecy? And where could I get my hands on this? I have some good ideas for custom scenario...
That mission always hurt me badly, then I tried a new tactic. Get an incredibly fast colony ship, jam packed with the best engines you have. Rush buy factories and the colony ships, and go for every single planet. I colonised every last one, left my allies with no influence at all (they don't need it anyway). Build your own, powerful, medium hulled ships, and bulk out your army with AI ships, since they always upgrade theirs every new tech it seems. An
That is a pain I'll admit. I quite like facing off against the Dread Lords, and it's annoying to build ships capable of going toe to toe with them in achilles heel, and then losing most of that tech by apocalypse. Don't know why I had taken so long on achilles heel to get force field and Doom Ray, but there you go. I suppose if you kept the techs, it would turn painful to cakewalk.
You can steal tech. And in an interview, brad said the first expansion "Dark Avatar" will have a LOT more espionage choices. (Campaign plays as the Drengin) Multiple moons would be a bit of a pain for the game in the same way more than five planets isn't recommended. The code can only do so much, and there is some rudimentary planetary defence, in the forms of "planetary defence" I like the energy and character ideas though, they would be co
1. Building stuff might be more expensive than reseraching stuff as in real life. What's cheaper, figuring out a gun or putting a bunch of them on a huge hunk of metal designed to shoot around space? 2. It will eventually change to 4 per sector, because otherwise you can, as you say, become the cheesemeister and screw over the AI six ways to sunday. 3. What HEEGZ said. And if you start in the starbase range, probably yes. 4.Both attack a
One of my last games, and my toughest yet, was my fourth on intelligent. I was playing my evil custom race, and shared a lot of tech with the Drengin, then (when it was them, me, the yor, the Terrnas and the Thalans) remembered that alliance was off. So i remembered why to play neutral, free planet upgrades, more money faster. At one point, they must have had 90% of the Galaxy, Terrans had given up, and I used the yor to distract them long enough to research the required defence techs to be
That study works, If you don't make every last letter wrong your brain fills it in. Anyway, if you want to see who owns what, turn on influence areas on the minimap. It's as good a border as the game has. And, you need to jump across people's space to go to war with others or to protect them. Go anywhere near their planets on tough and above though, they'll hurt you for it <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Wink.gif" border=0 ALIGN="
3.) Computer AI cannot build starbases within the area of your influence. If he does he acts like attacking you and that means war. Its a pain when you want to build a starbase near your planets and you find that a computer AI already buildet a starbase there. I'm fairly sure the UP council has an eve
You know, kind of makes you wish they had put in terror stars. Or at least showed us the sort of code required to build one ourselves. I have a horryfying urge to shoot a stars core, causing it to explode somewhat, watching it wipe out a few worlds, seeing a figure stand over the rubble, look around and say "BOOM! headshot!"
I swear there is a mirror version, I've seen it. The Korx doing things out of the kindness of their hearts, the yor like hippie bots "MAKE...LOVE...NOT...WAAAAAAAR" I have to say, you are one of the best dev teams I have ever seen or heard about. When you consider people like SE who sell their games half completed, then use the money they get from it to finish it off, compared to you guys, working yourselves like mad to get it all shipped, then get new versions out and patrol for bug fixes.

Neutrons are stars that imploded and weigh brain numbingly high amounts, Giants go Nova. There is some sort of planet destruction built into the game, because I've seen the graphic for it in the gfx file. There is also apparently a plague event. (Never seen either of these, except the graphics for them in the files) Anyone ever seen a planet go bang?
No. Because if you're up against more than 1 ship, even if you have a fleet, they'll take out the cargo ship, because it's the best armed. So its killed instantly
Blargh, so close
