Hey! thats 4 requests... 1 and 3: Tactical combat - basically this is too big a feature to be put in to the current game (needs a good tactical AI etc to work), but may well be in an eventual galciv III. Theres various threads around on this if you want to find out more. Both you and the AI always focus on one ship at a time though. 2. Yes, would be nice, to be able to retreat to an allied world to repair, or defend an undefended ally planet. 4. agreed!

have you tried loading up stardock central, going to tools and lookup serial number? then they'll email you your numbers for all the games you have.

I think setting everything at random, with blind exploration is good fun - you have no idea what the galaxy will be like! It forces you to make interesting choices and adjust your strategy as you explore. for example, you start up the game and see loads of stars on the map! so you research impule drive, buy some factories and start churning out colony ships, thinking there will be plenty of colonisable planets. then, you visit star after star - and there are very few habita

I think 'useless' is going a bit over the top, but I agree it must be a little annoying for the players who fall in the 'gap'. One way of making it easier (or harder, depending what you usually play) is blind exploration - I find its much harder when it is on because you dont know where other races are expanding to, so its harder to expand yourself. with it off its easier to out-expand the AI. it also doesnt decrease the fun factor as much (IMO) as tech trading does, and is

Probably the first game that was something like a TBS that I loved was shining force 2 for the megadrive (i didnt get my first PC till i was older). That was an RPG/TBS combo i guess, the turn based battles were good fun and the characters were great. still play it occasionally! probably the first real 4X I got into was the original civilizations, i can remeber playing it at a friends house, and three of us played slightly bizarre joint games where each city we created was 'assigned'

I would love to see more diplomacy AND tactical battles. However, only if the AI could use them effectively, which is why I voted diplomacy - i think this would be easier for the AI to use sensibly. also, while tactical combat would be a lot of fun (so long as there was an auto-resolve option) , I think proper diplomacy is more necessary to the game. I guess the danger is trying to put too many new features in, and ending up with a bit of a mangle of features that dont fit together t

*bows to Lord Mark* yep, definitely smarter. its actually building useful buildings on its planets now, instead of endless embassies/entertainment, which gives it the equivalent of a few 100% manufacturing and research bonuses over 1.11 I definitely got a nasty shock on my first game with 1.2 - i can still feel the pain... This is sort of like giving a kid "free" plans for building a bike, watching him abandon most of his free time for months to do it, and then punching him and taking the bike. You are a twisted gamer, xpyre... I like it.

Hi! the influence adding building starts off as an embassy (and goes through various incarnations as you get tech). It is indeed best to build them on the +100% squares, and they have an effect only on the influence of the planet it is built on. but actually, you'll probably find influence starbases more useful than embassies. there is also a galactic acheivement, the restaurant of eternity (i forget which tech you need), this has an empire-wide effect, and there is no adva

just checking - you do mean 5 million not 5 billion? even though the ships say 5000 soldiers, it means 5 billion, and this is what you should lose from your planet. if you are indeed losing only 5 million (ie your population is hardly changing when you load the troop ship fully) then it is a bug!

i think replies like marcothonas' are more in response to the tone of the post - there is nothing wrong with pointing out a flaw/gripe you have with the game but it should be done politely and with respect, and the OP was done with neither.

Hey, interesting idea! I've never tried it. let us know how it works out. I suspect if it does work it will be the factories that do it - population doesnt get too big till later in the game anyway, and it looks like your strategy is designed to kill them before that. Also, if giving away industrial sector works as planned, they might never get around to building the farms! good luck!

poor terrans. I hope you were playing the free alliance... youd have thought we terrans would have got war down to a fine art by then, what with all the practice weve had

I like this game, I just can't see it, is all. have you tried using the zoom-out tactical map with the icons some of the time in place of the minimap - I find that its quite useful (for eg finding starbases etc), and I didnt even realize i cou

el-conquest, Creativity is a random dice roll of free tech advances.. A roll is made based on your ability and if it rolls yes based on the % factor you have for an empire you will get a free tech advance in any area availible to research at that time...Say you have a bonus of 50% so there is a probability of 1 in every 2 dice rolls that you will get a free tech

I think its fine - random events are supposed to have a large effect, and they're meant to throw something a bit different at you so each game does not play out the same. some times the random event may be more help to you than the other races, sometimes not but if it makes you thing about something and change tactics (like making sensor tree pointless or whatever) then all to the good!
