This argument about 'transparency' has been going on for a while
That's the only fact that's relevant. The point is that, for whatever reason, there is a steady stream of people who do not understand how the Stardock subscription works and it comes as an unpleasant surprise to them when they do. It doesn't matter whether they're daft for not knowing this or that they've missed all the bits that poi
Well, the point has been made and Island Dog has said they'll pass it along to the staff. Thank you. Jafo et al: it doesn't matter what the cause of confusion is (or whether you consider something a real subscription), rather that the confusion be resolved. Anyway, the point has been raised and passed along. That's all that needed to happen. Perhaps a new post can be started if people wish to discuss the nature of subscription services.
The point is not whether you understand that it's a subscription model or not, the point is that plenty of people seem not to. Just read through these forums. Have a look at how often someone posts to say that they didn't realise it was a subscription. It's quite often. And it's a really nasty surprise to find out that something's a subscription only when it runs out. Some people took this opportunity to opine that they don't think it's unreasonable for Object De
One of the most regular types of post on these forums come from people who didn't realise Object Desktop (and its kin) are subscription software. Responses to such posts vary from the polite to the patronising. One post and you might imagine that person is daft or missed an important point. Two posts and you might start to wonder. But the sheer regularity of posts does seem to suggest that you might make more explicit the subscription nature of the product. I haven't seen anyone po
The latest Humble Bundle (running until the 14th November) includes Stardocks Fences and Deskscapes. They're in the main part of the bundle, so you can pay $1 and get both. Also part of the first tier is Opus File Manager and Breevy (a utility that allows you to create abbreviations that automatically render as full text). In the next tier, there's DisplayFusion (multiple monitors utility), a one year subscription to some password-remembering thing and a one year subscription
I'd suggest you submit a support ticket. Although people will often answer on the forums, if the answer is difficult or there isn't an answer, you may never get a reply. They at least tend to reply to support tickets.
Yes, you are free to use the products after your subscription expires, but... What they're not so quick to point out is that Windows updates can break Stardock products. For instance, the recent Windows 10 Anniversary Update broke Windowblinds. In fact it led to a black desktop screen. There was no obvious sign that it was Windowblinds that caused it and Stardock did not email their customers. There was a Windowblinds update that sorted it, but if your subscription had run out,
I had the exact same problem. And it was the exact same solution. The interesting thing for me is that it only happened to certain windows (eg the Steam friends list). It seems that the Windowblinds skin I'm using has its own shadows that it uses for certain windows - those were all fine. For certain windows though, it seems that ShadowFX was being used and 1.11 was messing up. 1.12 fixed it. I only noticed the problem after the Windows 10 anniversary update.
I'm another one who was getting a black screen after the Windows anniversary update. I was running Windowblinds 10.0.3 I uninstalled, paid to extend my subscription (grrr), downloaded 10.0.7, rebooted and got my computer back. I've had emails after my subscription ended telling me that Icon Packager 10 is available and that Windowblinds 10.0.7 is now available. Perhaps it might be helpful to send out an email advising people of the potential incompatibility between Win
I use several programs so I pay the yearly subscription. It's the cheapest method for me. I'm not interested in beta tests or anything like that. If I was to buy WindowBlinds on its own, I'd have to pay for WindowBlinds 8, then WindowBlinds 10, etc. Stardock now regards WindowBlinds 8 as effectively a separate product from WindowBlinds 10 - they're not just updates of WindowBlinds. So a WB8 owner doesn't get WB10. And when you add in Start10, IconPackager, Win
This would be a case of saying something hilariously dumb in response to something hilariously dumb. Ice floating on water is a simple matter of water displacement, the Archimedes principle, specifically. And you completely ignore the difference between fresh and salt water, haven't even considered albedo, don&
there can be no water displacement when the ice is already in the water.
Good grief. All the ice is not already in the water. You might notice that the Arctic and the Antarctic aren't underwater, so that conclusively demonstrates that the ice isn't all in the water. And that's ignoring all the glaciers, etc. When you're going to decry the vast majority of the world's scientists, you would do well to ge
I have never asked for an ETA. I don't expect one and I don't think it's realistic to proffer one. I certainly haven't demanded one. The only person who has mentioned timescale is whoever wrote the page indicating that WB10 was coming soon. All I asked for is some kind of communication as to progress, if it's possible to give such. You must have noticed just how many posts there are on the forums asking about WB10. It would be nice if there was some explanation of
I posted this in the Windowblinds forum. I'm replying in the Windowblinds forum. Either I did something weird that has made it appear in two fora at once or someone has modified it to be like that. I learned English so I could communicate effectively. We didn't have smilies back then. I haven't found any need for them since. Perhaps the fora could be better labelled to distinguish what each are for.
This forum is for support only? I didn't realise. Or maybe you're being sarcastic - I don't really understand smileys. Jafo, I'm presuming by the Stardock icon on your avatar thing that you work for Stardock or have some kind of official relationship with them. Could you maybe close this thread? No one has anything useful to say and it's not helping anyone. No one can really add to that at this stage, so it's probably best to just end this thread as
69 posts and no one has added anything useful other than vague mentions that it's hard to code WB, Microsoft could be making invisible changes to the GUI that we don't know about and that WB 10 will be coming at some point in the future. The last person to say anything helpful was Island Dog in post number 5. Now this has descended into general chitchat about whether a screenshot is real or not, who's a WB dev, jokes about Alzheimers, etc. Sigh...&
After receiving no reply here, I submitted a support ticket on the 19th of November. A week later I got a reply saying there was a new beta of WindowFX that I could download. The reply did not say if the beta addressed the problem. I tried, the beta. I did not do anything to alleviate the problem. I wrote back to say so. Another week has passed. No reply.
Calm it down. I started this thread to ask for information about the progress of WindowBlinds 10, not to hear general paeans about how development takes time (really?) and how Stardock want to release a functional product (goodness, what a new idea) nor to hear people threaten to cancel their subscription (so what?) or to bang on about how Stardock is losing sales (how would you know?). If you have some information about the development of WindowBlinds 10 that you are able to tell
What I'd like on WinCustomize is a set of categories that are more useful. Fro instance, if I wish to search for a dark skin, icon set, etc, I have to hope the author has used that word in the title. It would be nice to have categories that are relevant to what people want to search for. Surely I'm not the only one who would like to search by colour? I realise no one wants to go through all the skins, etc and apply categorical descriptions, but it would be nice. It might be interestin
It's okay. No one wants you to commit to a date if you're not sure you can make it or not. That's why no one's asking for a date. Some indication of whether it's weeks, months or years away would be nice, but I can well understand if that's not possible. But hearing that Windows 10 has proved a bit more complicated is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping to hear (and I'm sure others were too). Everything prior to now has been a sort of vague "we're wo
Me too. But hopefully this post might prompt someone from Stardock to respond. Given the sheer number of posts about Windows 10, it seems a bit odd that Stardock haven't chosen to be a bit more communicative about this. I'm quite sure they're working on this and I'm certain that Windowblinds 10 will be along at some point. But I can't help but feel that a few posts indicating progress would do much to head of a lot of the confusion and frustration that people ar
I understand the complexities of developing a program for an operating system like Windows 10. I am well aware that there are difficulties in hooking into the UI system in ways that don't impact system performance or cause errors. I've been using WindowBlinds since it was Window Blinds. I remember past releases that didn't work properly. What I'm asking for is some kind of progress update; some kind of communication. You'll have noticed many posts on the forum a
