My idea was less about the specific values and more about the idea that you aren't necessarily going to know the consequences... right now, its more a mathematics challenge (albiet very fuzzy math) than an issue of ideology. Ic, ic. Your talking about 'luck'. Still, ethics choices is somthing that indeed does have very predictable

Calling a theoretical technology and an imaginary technology equally fantasy isn't fair or accurate at all. You sound like 'imaginary' or 'fantasy' are in some way derogatory? Truth be known, the imagination is a far more powerful scientific instrument than anything else in existance! I personally give that much higher regard than non proven

Also, if you checked the tech descriptions, you'd realize that the ion engine and impulse drive techs aren't that much out of place. The ion drive is merely a stable way to move a ship through warped space, and is strapped to a hyperdrive... increasing the real space speed that is then multiplied via hyperdrive. Of course the ion drive is techn

Your in the right direction, but a little off track. taking your example, the underwater domes - respecting them or other natives would result in a planetary defence bonus (remember starwars). Also it should be a gradual population and scientific bonus over time as these underwater inhabitants gradually integrate into your civilisation. The consequence of dumping them would most likely be a moral and patriotic penalty for that planet. Remember, throughout history, evil choices

Pretty much. It'll cost more up front, but an all-new system will last longer before needing another upgrade, and give you better experiences in games in the meanwhile. Ok, sound advice Kryo. I have two other computers... a P4 1700mhz and a P2 400mhz. My wife uses the P4 to play multiplayer games with me and to use the internet. I u

On careful consideration I don't think i'm going to bother upgrading my system at all this year. It seems as though any money i try to spend to improve my current system is going to be an inneficient benefit for the cost compared to a complete new system?

Allot of great advice here to consider. I remember what a good run with upgrading i had with the pentium systems before they killed upgrading nice and dead with the release of the p4 system. I guess all the computer companies realised they were on a winner to stop old components being compatible!

I didn't respond to your earlier post because I really didn't have any good advice for you That's ok, i posted in the wrong category anyway. Yeah I looked up "family 15 model 12" and got Socket 939 which

Your GC2 debug.err should tell specifically, though, right in the first paragraph. I'll have to look it up. I hope AMD are not going to piss me off with incompatability issues.... i'll run streight back into the arms of intel if that happens.

I never knew the post count was managed? Myself, i have never posted a game score.... mainly because i never finish a game! yea i get too bored once the AI keels over. Funny thing is, when i'm struggling to survive in a game, i wish for the day i would have a strong position - then when i attain the strong position, the game no longer interests me, strange eh?

The difference being that in ST impulse engines are used for normal space travel (including in-system travel, but GC's star system model doesn't help there). That's my biggest gripe with the propulsion techtree branch, ion and impulse engines are so out of place there... Yea, true, perhaps putting them in the wrong order is just a way of di

RF & KL, thanks for the reports. Sounds like you two had a somewhat similar game state to mine when the Peacekeepers arrived. Anyone out there seen them show up in a war-torn galaxy? I saw them in the 'Farscape' galaxy! In the ever so brief moment there was some room inbetween all the overwhealming police, hospital and lawyer show

Thank you kindly for the advice Kryo. I prefer the idea of a complete upgrade - i can do that with US$300 here in Australia, if i don't have to buy a new cpu. So it depends on how compatible new AMD motherboards are with older AMD cpu's? I don't mind having a nice powerful system bottlenecked by the older cpu for a while. Ok so what's a good AMD motherboard? ram? and video card combination?

1) No. The only things to consider with distant colonies is military defence or if influence is going to be troublesome. Influence of a distant colony can anger Alien races or that distant colony can be taken over by an Alien race via high enough influence. 2) see above. 3) I'm not sure at what point a low population reduces production? However, high populations do not affect production at all as far as i know. High populations only increase income as far as i know? High popula

Hi I have $400 Australian dollars ($312 US) to spend on a Video card for my computer I have a x86 15 family model 12 stepping 0 authenticAMD 2009 mhz system with 1024mb ram and a gigabyte radeon 9600 pro 256mb ram video card. Should i even get a video card? my pc is over a year old.... problem is, it is an AMD system, so if i upgrade the motherboard or cpu then i cannot use the old one to upgrade my second computer since it is an Pentium pc. When i think about why

Thanks for that Kryo, yea i usually play on 'crippling'. it is hard to guess what the AI is really seeing since it won't necissarily respond to somthing as soon as it sees it. Otherwise you could see some kind of pattern..."ah that ship got attacked as soon as it reached that point on the map, therefore the AI can see up to that point etc etc". However the AI just dousn't seem to work that way.

Hi Every time i try to play Dreadlords on parade, the other AI races quickly eliminate the Dreadlords. This problem is made worse by the fact that i cannot reduce the number of AI players. Also the Dreadlords always commit suicide by completely ignoring all the juicy races inbetween them and me - they seem to be completely and utterly obsessed with my civilisation alone. Of course i destroy all their incomming ships and then they promptly loose to the other races. <br/

By the way, your lucky the Dreadlords are strong. every time i have tried to play Dreadlords on parade, they get creamed by the AI. Especially since i am not allowed to reduce the number of AI players, which is a shame. Mind you, if the Dreadlords weren't so blindly determined to attack me despite all the jucy races inbetween, they might actually have some ships left to use against the AI??

Well there are different travel methods used in top rate sci fi shows. So it is just a matter of seeing which ones work best in the series and go from there. Personally i prefer the Startrek warp drive system. That system seems to fit best with the way this game works.

From a realism point of view, how often do real world nations hold major summits? There is a huge amount of preparyions behind these things so this makes sense to me. Actually real world nations communicate constantly with each other. Even North Korea and America can still communicate, even if they officially snub each other. Using the

In addition, a world with the police center can not be culturally flipped... Kinda handy if you have a world deep in another's influence area. Carn't be true... That seems to be a far too much of a significant fact for it to have been left out of it's ingame description if it was true. I mean that fact alone makes it far mor valuable than th

Been doing this myself by editing the entries in 'English.str' to a different name. I have used the Gorgonites as a name as it seemed to suit At least that way i dont get attacked by a rediculously overpowerful pirate race Hehehehe good one. Just keep your EMP warmed up, ready for those toy soldiers!

For me a game need not be believable (what's believable about tic-tac-toe?), as long as it is fun and challenging. Games should offer escape from real life, and not some extra part of it This is a critical point you make. However it all depends on what kind of realistic notion is being challenged. For example, no one want's to see
