Or, if you want to be really cool, how about Konfabulator (or, if you must "Yahoo Widget Engine") instead of DesktopX. (I know, heresy! But I bet that more ppl use the YWE than use DX, because the YWE is free.)

Apart from the classic categories I would really like
to see an "Innovative Desktop Experience" category.

Sounds good...particularly if it were left open to any GUI mod...from DX to Litestep to Aston to Nextstart to Hoverdesk, etc...

I think if one of the 3 categories was open to non-Stardock apps...it'd be great...eg Winamp or Sysmetrix...

For the non-Stardock application/s I'd pick Rainlendar, Sysmetrix or QCD. For Stardock applications, I'd pick WB, IconPackager or DesktopX.

I think it would be cool to have a catagory for skinning non-OD/Stardock software.
Otherwize I have to go with Icon Packer, Windowsblinds, and CursorXP.

I would say wallpapers too but I think anyone could win that just by searching for a tutorial.

I like the three original categories. But let's add a couple more. I like cursorXp just because it involves creativity, and good design work. I like something to do with DesktopX and/or DesktopX widgets/gadgets. I also like sysmetrix, although it doesn't seem to be all that popular.

Well i guess it's only a matter of time before the Desktop Screenshot becomes a catagory in the GUI World Championships.

Almost everything that's created and uploaded here is for improving the human/pc interface experience, more SS's are uploaded than any other catagory and the ultimate purpose of all the enhancements is to make the desktop look better.

I almost feel sorry for the mediators, it'll be a logistical nightmare if not admin'ed properly!

An ideal would be to have several catagories, including a vote-in poll by the community itself. This would also help to draw in more subscribers as a recognition and appreciation of their efforts of promoting the art of skinning.

Screenshots are the first step anyone takes the the skinning world, sooner or later it's going to have to be acknowledged. Why wait?

Note on Firefox: icons for the various extensions is always a problem with skins - it would be nice if a skin provided a selection of skin-matching icons for various extensions, if that's possible.

The inter-sites chellenge seems very nice. I think Winmodify, LotsOfSkins, Skinbase and Skinartistry as brother sites should be counted in. DA is too vast to be in this thing so i guess these are enough.

WindowBlinds DesktopX and IconPackager would be my preference. Now from the title I read it was World championships, so if thats what you mean then I dont think any site or anybody should be excluded. If I remember last time winners were based on download ratio if I recall and the groups were made up of different authors who had teamed up. So, if that is the same way that this is going to run then what is the differnece how many sites or individuals participate. Unless I am wrong and you want to make it a small thing among a couple of sites. But then thats no world championship. So all i can say is in my opinion if you really want to see how good you are, then open it up to all !
