Windows update Messed up WB 5

Windows update Messed up WB 5

Suggestions?

Wow. This morning,I started up my computer, and it automatically installed a Windows Update. Meh. It restarted as well. When I logged back in, everything was screwy. Most skinned stuff was black, and my computer ran INCREDIBLY INSANELY SLOW. It took ten minutes to bring up the start menu. There was not much HD accessing while it was doing that either. After about half an hour of patience, I managed to unload WB (I'm using 5.0. It worked fine. Now, when I load up any skin, alpha blending or not, it goes crazy. I hate the regular XP look, so what can I do? Any others with this problem, or someone with a solution?

SimonStrange777:  If the crack has a bug which gets exposed on a certain day then that would explain why the crack fails on every machine.

Regarding your story of the robber, I suspect that robber was convicted of breaking & entering though.  If the robber had himself removed the stair railing and then fell then perhaps it would be similar.  But in that case it would be his own fault.

Ever since WB5 went public there have been compaints about WB5 failures from people who never post here. The strange thing is there have been some that never did follow-ups when asked for information on what version they were using or what wasn't working right. Even when some that did give information that proved they were using warez they tried to deny it. The failures of pirate ware seem to have been going on since day one. Different cracks, different failures?

Unfortunately, the family had to pay compensation for the robber and the robber was free from sentencing (least that's what I've read from UK's Tabloid which happened a couple years ago.

Wow, irrationality is as present as ever among humanity... and even more so among the cathode ray burned generation click-click. Neil your info was good and well stated... but no, the robber was not convicted... they settled out of court... Money speaks louder than prison. I personaly think that spending $20 dollors on the beauty of a work tool is a bit much... but that is just me. So I DON'T USE THE STUFF... PERIOD!!! Don't come off half cocked at me... I just have noticed a trend in the digital world ( a trend I feel is VERY WRONG) and attemted to shed some light on an issue that could help people get to the bottom of things, an issue that has very real precidence. Admin Jafo to you I simply say this... PEACE... to wish even digital violence on another speaks volumes of your persona... just as my paranoia and suspicion do of mine, but at least I am not wishing pain and suffering on others of ANY KIND!!! That's just not nice! But then again no one ever said that geeks are high on the charts of social graces. Funny thing is though... in the words of William Shakespeare "Me thinkest thou protest to much!!!"... Other than copyright infringement with Spock what else do you hide?

Even if Stardock did program something to make warez unworkable I don't see a problem. As much as I would like to see pirates computors spit fire, the fact that all they have to do is uninstall the program is a good thing. If anything permanent happened it would fall under some booby trap law and then Stardock would be open to lawsuits, and everyone here is aware of Sony's possible problems with anti-pirate software. The crackers and warez users will have to come up with the proof. I wouldn't think Stardock has anything to prove.

In my book, I think Microsoft doesn't want software's engineers to hack their operating system meaning doing reverse-engineering to make it appear something their (Microsoft) didn't intend it to be. This will be a huge loss from Microsoft if people can make their Windows XP version appear to be a Vista Operating System. Why would customers go for the new operating system yet to arrive when they can make the one they have appear as such? Microsoft may feel that Stardock stole their ideas to make money of it and now fighting back. As you can see the problem only affect windowblinds version 5. I'm using version 4 and I have no problem with it.
You can read from below part of an article related or kind of relate to this one at Link

"My neighbor invites me over admire his new widget. I bring my tape measure, my calipers, my camera, my scale, and my laptop for taking notes.

I reverse engineer the widget, and build one for myself in my shop, with my own material. I like my cool new widget, especially since I didn't have to pay for it.

Now I get even more clever. I build a machine that has the ability to copy widgets. Whatever widget you have, you pop it in, and a copy is made. I never sell the copies I make (that would be a violation of the patent), but I do borrow alot of my friends widgets to make myself a personal copy.
"

This is what I think of the situation so far. This is only what I think.

Stardock would never consider damaging any data or hardware intentionally.

All they have to do is stop WB, which can be done in a number of ways.  I would also run a virus scan myself too just to be safe as who knows where those files came from.

ok ok guys... this is my only and very simple history (my enghish are some poor ok i prefer the spanish u_ú)

case 1 "my case"
day - saturday 17
hour - panamá 2:30 pm

problem - windowblind 5 misteriously "crash and messed up and corrupt"

case 2 "the same day, the same error, in a friend computer"
the diference of his computer and the mine... he no have "internet conection"

ok my hipotesis is that...

1. after i download the illegal copy of WB5 i automatically burn it to a CD.. and in a CD of "only read" adware o trojan dont are oportunity to modify and corrupt the files.
2. i install this cracked vesin of WB 5 on my friend computer the same day as mine... and no problems
3. the day of yesterday the two computers are the same error... i not sure if this error ocurrs at the same hour but is in te same day and the computer of my friend no have internet...

y work testing software and PCs hardware.. im a betatester etc... and when i install WB5 in a "new PC" whithout any update than SP2.. the WB 5 doesnt work...

after this... its obviously.. the files screen.exe, wbSrv.dll, and sig.bin, are a "date bug".. appearently the file wbSrv.dll have a problen... and befere of the day of yesterday.. this file is turned "inoperable and crashed"..

well in my opinion this is all the problem.... any here have a comentay? specially you Citizen SimonStrange777... ?

-----------------------------------
this is a update of my post.. ok ok in this moment i rolled back my computer time and date to a time without problems Dec 15... reintalled the crack and reebot.. and.. the WB5 "work fine again... ok.. this is difinitively the problem.. the crack have a date bug... i need some credentials to find the solution ha ha ha ha ha wuaa ha ha ha ha ... err err sorry... ok if you have to try it be yourself its you decicion..

this isnt a metod to crack WB5. i only post the soluction and the answer to all the conmotion here...

So it may not be an attempt by Microsoft to make people wait for Vista 'cause the go back would not affect the update. It may be the crack then. But windowblinds 4 is great. I hope they were still making skins for it. I'm being force to get version 5.
my crack isnt a trojan... i not make this patch... but.. definetively is a date bug in the crack.. microsoft and Stardock are out of this problem... is only a problem in the crack...

when i roll back my computer date the WB worck with this crack... but when i restore the time it crash again

If you're an idiot and attmept to crack a program so integrated into Windows, you're going to get bad results when Windows tries to update itself.

definetively is a date bug in the crack.. microsoft and Stardock are out of this problem... is only a problem in the crack...

Citizen SimonStrange777   simple...be the injured burglar and sue the crack provider.

People are a wee bit too quick to apportion blame....even suggesting that Microsoft wants to cripple Windowblinds so that people will need to wait for Vista to achieve similar graphical tweaks.....

It's GOTTA be "the man"....it could NEVER be the [hacker] "kid".

The whole premise is so laughable someone MUST be having a lend.....

hmmmm the crak provider is an stupid.. for make bad cracks... i only say.. "good lookie next time" bye bye illegits WB5.. -_-U

but this dont end here... some of these next days a new crack appear and other and other... the piracy is and interminable war...

It's much the same sort of issue as messing with 'modified' ntoskrnl.exe files.  If the proggy you are attenpting to alter is closely tied into the OS itself then things have a very real potential to 'go wrong'.

Alternate Shell users know this well....though usually you just lose your GUI...but at times you can be running around like a headless chook looking for SafeMode...cos the system has locked solid with even the task manager 'not responding'....all thanks to a bit of iffy coding...

mmmmmmm obviously this matter end here the life continues

Each one with its life and that this remain in the conscience of who they have (by luck I do not have I continue using Illegit software he he he) for my the matter of the "Crack Bug" already remains classified and sealed in my brain "you have ben deleted" ha ha ha. xD

Siegemaster: just purchase the product, its well worth $20.00. I think Stardock is well within its rights to kill the program if you did not purchase it.
stardock dont are kill nothing.. "here.... here.. in my country.. this program isnt in sale" and i dont have credid card or nothing as same...

remember.. of 1000 users of this forums 500 are using illegit software xP

and i actually arent using WB5.. i are using my Windows Vista 5259 PC for the moment xD

well then, siegmaster, use paypal or one of the other alternative methods to buy the app. coming in here and bragging that you use a warez copy of wb or another stardock app isn't the brightest things to do. sheesh!!

you notice the most of the people complaing how wb5 messed up they system is under the age of 25 damn kiddies didnt your parents ever teach you right from wrong ?

if you cant afford to buy a stardock program several ways you can get it legit

wash cars

Hey, it's still my friend's computer. I was away this weekend, so sorry guys. I'll purchase WB for myself now. I had no idea it was cracked, okay. My own computer has been on the fritz, so I use his. You did guess correctly that I am under 18, so I have to convince someone with paypal or something (annoying parents hate technology) to pay. Also, does anyone know of a good boutique-style computer store online? I'm thinking there's something very very wrong with my own computer, and a replacement would be a smart choice.

I got my hands on a copy of the cracked WB5 and liked it so much I bought the real copy. I always support software that I think is worthwhile and I've found that cracked stuff (especially that eventually breaks) is a great preview. It works with games with early release cracks but later stop functioning after an update. If you're addicted to the game you're going to run out and buy that baby. WB5 is a great application and worth the dough - glad the update made my version stop working.

Is there any way to get it without a credit card? Some help would be greatly appreciated. Is it sold in stores anywhere?

A: We also accept checks or money orders in US funds (no Eurocheques, please, as they are not certified funds). Please print and use the order form at https://www.stardock.com/order.txt (also found in the directories of Stardock’s shareware products) and mail with payment to:
