Windows update Messed up WB 5

Suggestions?

Wow. This morning,I started up my computer, and it automatically installed a Windows Update. Meh. It restarted as well. When I logged back in, everything was screwy. Most skinned stuff was black, and my computer ran INCREDIBLY INSANELY SLOW. It took ten minutes to bring up the start menu. There was not much HD accessing while it was doing that either. After about half an hour of patience, I managed to unload WB (I'm using 5.0. It worked fine. Now, when I load up any skin, alpha blending or not, it goes crazy. I hate the regular XP look, so what can I do? Any others with this problem, or someone with a solution?

No it isn't.  Its a case of the cracked versions of WB5 breaking due to bugs in the crack.

Paying customers & trial users have no problems.

I've had a couple of Windows and Trendmicro updates this week - none have affected me. Everything is copacetic.

Oddly enough, I have all the latest Windows updates and the latest version of WB and everything runs sweet as a nut

Just love the cracked versions blowing up, hehehe...

I think it's great. Nothing like a little totally unexpected justice.
Vizzue, you should consider disabling the auto update from windows. I've had four or five occasions when things were not right the day after updates. Wasted a lot of time fixing things. Did a manual install of Dec. updates and no problems. I don't let MS Antispyware auto update anymore either. I think the same thing has happened with them. Will see if the MS Antispyware update notifier works.

Did the Windows update 2-3 days ago-- no trouble here.

I always understood that if something was cracked...it was broken. Seems honesty is the best policy after all...you only get what you pay for.

Listen... In all my years of computing... all the way back to old PETS... I have used as much legit software as I can get my hands on... as well as non legit... I DISPISE ONLINE COMMERCE... I have been the victem of identity fraud 3 times... Once by an employee of a company I bought something from... (No anti hacker tool will fix that, they just used my number as they got it) So I WONT PURCHASE ANYTHING ONLINE! That makes a legit copy of windowblinds VERY HARD TO GET!!! Yet I personaly have got MANY people to buy it, I advertise heavily products I love. That said, I will make this statement... I HAVE NEVER SEEN A CRACK JUST SELF DISTRUCT SPONTAINIOUSLY AND WITHOUT PROVOCATION AFTER WORKING FINE AND CAUSING THE LEVEL OF PROBLEMS PEOPLE ARE SEEING WITH WB5 CRACKS WITHOUT OUTSIDE INFLUENCE!!! ESPECIALY ALL ON THE SAME DAY!!! TO THOSE OF YOU ASKING QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS... ASK STARDOCK AND WINCUSTOMIZE!!! I have seen other companies online bomb in mass pirates before... i.e. Sony. etc... Yes, piracy is an unfortunate fact but companies bombing pirates... that is low and just as illegal... If I find any clue as to this being what is happening I'll make sure to never utter the name windowblinds, stardock, etc. again and I have purchased thier products before... C'mon everyone the coincedences are just too obvious... I MEAN EVERYONE ON THE SAME DAY!!! C'MON!!! I am not even using WB at the moment and I still say this smells bad... WAY BAD!!! I think everyone should scour thier systems for evidence... the practice of bombing NEEDS to stop ast well...

Bombing pirates?

What happened was the crack that these people installed stopped working correctly.  The end result was a very confused WB.  Stardock have not touched any of these computers & have no idea what machines have it, or how many copies there are out there.  I ought to also say that Stardock had nothing to do with the crack.  We have no idea who developed it.

Regarding purchasing WB, you can purchase WB by sending a cheque to Stardock at their mailing address if you wish.  Stardock also support paypal if you feel thats secure.

People who have installed illegal software have no right to complain. They get what they deserve if it breaks.

If I steal a car which subsequently breaks down, do I have a right to complain to the manufacturer?

What a shame the crack doesn't completely frell peoples PCs. Now that would be justice...

frell-- a Fuzzism, or a real world word? I like the sound of it...

Complaining to StarDock/WC because a crack blows up-- taking presumptuous to a new level...

Listen I am not attempting to start a flame war... I DON'T USE WB ANYMORE!!! I do Digital audio work... even WB can be felt when I am running a high load... I am just saying, That MANY companies have been reported as using very underhanded methods to try to curb piracy... I would not put it past Stardock and friends... But a crack failing in mass on the same day? and it's not a timed demo crack... that just does not add up... I come to these forums every now and then to see what people are saying... to find out if the time is right to get back into using the software... guess not.
Oh! and the stolen car analogy... here's a more apt one... that actually happened... A robber broke into the house of a family doing an unpermitted remodel to thier home... thier stairs had no railing and no warning... needless to say the robber fell and broke both legs... he sued the home owners and won... The moral... 2 wrongs don't make a right... don't gimme that you get what you deserve stuff... By the way Super Wizop Fuzzy Logic... do you have legal right to use the image of Spock in a public domain? HMMMM... Gene Rodenberry and Co. like to sue... would it be justice if they sued you? We all do what we can... NO ONE IS 100% ligit in this life... no one! So please don't throw stones like that either... If by chance a company decides to try to use malware to curb piracy they should just openly say so... give people the option to take thier chances... If anyone can find proof either way to they malware idea just post it up... I am asking for proof one direction or another... If the company is being 100% nice nothing to fear... I am just another corperate naysayer... If they are then gee.. it's just another corperation... being as bad as the populace they need to survive...

It's so "fine" you can't see it. That means it's running pretty smooth for Rep. If he had said "fine as frog fur split four ways and sanded", well, it doesn't get much finer than that.

Citizen SimonStrange777 ...did it ever occur to you that the crack had a time issue?

As far as I'm aware these cracked Windowblinds all fubarred at the 'same' timeas the Latest Windows Update was applied.

Neither the failings of the cracking application, the negative IQ of the hacker...the stupidity of the pirating user OR Microsoft's updating system OR Redmond's schedule is the responsibility of Stardock and/or any of its personnel.

Some pimply-faced wanker who thinks he's the biggest shit-on-his-block because he can reverse engineer a proggy and steal from others needs to just get a life...and discover sex takes two.

And no, they are not leet....cos if they were their stupid cracks would not break.

People who use cracked software...and then bitch and moan when it fucks-up need a swift kick up the arse.

...or a clip 'round the ear-hole', as my old man would say...

I personally would prefer that any cracked proggy caused permanent system melt-down...call it the school-of-hard-knocks.
