2nd try of Stardock ends up with same Disaster

Bootskin

Read another online XP Tweaker of prominence raving about simplicity of Stardock bootscreen. So I gave it another run.

Bootvid again wiped out PCIIDE and UVGA drivers on this SIS mobo after the first reboot. In addition, there is a bunch of unwanted dreck installed on my start menu.

I don't get it. This seems like a great community and the variety of programs to customize is awesome. It's not worth my time spending hours mopping up after this 'harmless' program puked all over my PC's internals AGAIN.

Glad it's free.....??

Bootskin doesn't work on all systems. I also cannot get it to run on my computer, however it only took one installation for me to figure that out. There's a search box on the lower left of the page. You should type in Bootskin and do a forum search.

"Glad it's free"? That's probably why you have a system that doesn't support Bootskin.

Free would be the utility....

Re: min. specs

I think any $300 bargain bin PC with right OS covers 'specs'. BTW...what are they? It's surely compatability and even thou site suggests alternate versions, by the time you your install creates problems, it's too late.

I googled 'Bootvid' and I found that it is often connected with a trojan. Where did you download Bootskin from? Stardock does not bundle spyware and viruses with its downloads. Are you sure you even used bootskin of was it another similar program?

Bootskin can't do anything to your start panel except add the program to your list. Sounds like Aufisch is on to something.
