Criticisms

Stop! The neutrality of this section is disputed.

There are many criticisms of the WinCustomize site. One of these critcisms include that the site owner, Brad Wardell, posts articles on the news page bashing Apple, Konfabulator and other competitors. WinCustomize has also been criticized for using a "different rules for different users" policy. A "newbie" cannot get away with flaming, trolling, ect. while a higher ranking long time user can. The site admins are very much criticized, especially Jafo. Jafo is known to hold a "holier than thou" and a "I am right and you are wrong" attitude. He is also said by critics to be a self-porclaimed expert on the English language that corrects everybody's spelling and grammer. Critics claim the "Stardockians" are very egotistical and will band together to attack any voice of dissent and anoint themselves with self-aggrandizing titles such as "Super Elitist."

The "criticisms" are simply editorializing which really don't belong in an encyclopedia. Moreover, those criticisms are equally valid on any number of websites. If they think our forums are rough, they should hang out on Neowin.

I would agree Brad.

Silly. Both the WikiPedia entry vandalism, as well as the clueless monkies in here who just prove the point of the alteration.

The wiki philosophy is one of "if you don't like it, change it", so therefore if WikiPedia has a WinCustomize entry and someone has grudge against this site, he or she can alter the entry. Fortunately, another pillar is that of peer review, meaning that you can track the changes to an entry, react to it and if need be, revert it. For instance, I see froggles and konfab have been having a discussion about this in the talk section of the entry, so that should clear things up.

That'd be 'monkeys', not 'monkies'....Spell checker

Darn it...just proved their point about me correcting spelling etc....and it's a Friday night, too...egad and aghast....or is it 'agast'?  Who can tell....who can care?....

Just testing if you were still sharp (damnit, I changed it from "monkeys" to "monkies" because the former looked weird).

Forum Criticisms

While most users visit WinCustomize.com to download skins, themes, icons, wallpapers, and other content for their personal computers, WinCustomize does have extensive forums and articles areas. As with most large sites, WinCustomize is not without its critics with regards to how the forums are run and the content in the articles and forums area.

One of these critcisms includes that the site owner, Brad Wardell, occasionally posts articles critical of Apple and Macintosh users.

WinCustomize's volunteer moderators have been accused of moderating with "different rules for different users" policy. Some feel that a "newbie" cannot get away with flaming, trolling, ect. while a higher ranking long time user is given more latitude. Jafo, a site volunteer, is said by critics to be a self-proclaimed expert on the English language that corrects spelling and grammar, which many members appreciate. Any person placed with a position of responsibility or "control" over a community will likely face criticism. Criticism usually comes from those who are not part of the community, at odds with the community for one reason or another, or has been banished from the community.

Some users have claimed that some of the members as well as site administators are very egotistical and will band together to attack any voice of dissent [as is common with some online communities] even going as far as to attempt to silence dissent against WinCustomize on websites outside of WinCustomize. Some members of WinCustomize have titles such as "Super Wizop", "Citizen", "Journeyman" as ways to distinguish a member's experience within the community. It takes time to earn these titles as they are not given to just anyone. Critics feel this ranking system is a form of elitism.

And that's how Wiki works.
