Criticisms

Stop! The neutrality of this section is disputed.

There are many criticisms of the WinCustomize site. One of these critcisms include that the site owner, Brad Wardell, posts articles on the news page bashing Apple, Konfabulator and other competitors. WinCustomize has also been criticized for using a "different rules for different users" policy. A "newbie" cannot get away with flaming, trolling, ect. while a higher ranking long time user can. The site admins are very much criticized, especially Jafo. Jafo is known to hold a "holier than thou" and a "I am right and you are wrong" attitude. He is also said by critics to be a self-porclaimed expert on the English language that corrects everybody's spelling and grammer. Critics claim the "Stardockians" are very egotistical and will band together to attack any voice of dissent and anoint themselves with self-aggrandizing titles such as "Super Elitist."

It's beautiful.....I almost couldn't resist the urge to correct all the typos and prove them right....

This is coming from an "encyclopedia". I never used this site just because of things like this.

This is quite humorous Jafo! We all know you for how you really are.

The strange thing is...it's almost right.  It could easily be reworded to be 100% accurate.  All that'd be needed was to remove the 'bitter and twisted disdain of the recently-removed' and rephrase it with honest neutrality.

Unfortunately that's hardly my place, being one of the 'targets'....

"There are many criticisms of the WinCustomize site"
A statement with no supporting documentation that I could see. Who are these "critics"? And frankly, if "Super Elitist" was in my list of possible honorifics I'd use it just to piss off the "critics"
Looks like you ticked some weiner off Jafo.

There are many criticisms of the WinCustomize site. One of these criticisms includes that the site owner, Brad Wardell, posts articles on his news page which, although accurate, show Apple, Konfabulator and other competitors in a poor light. WinCustomize has also been criticized for using a "different rules for different users" policy. A "newbie" cannot get away with flaming, trolling, etc. while a 'high ranking' long-time user sometimes can. The site admins are often criticized, especially Jafo. Jafo is known to hold a "holier than thou" and a "I am right and you are wrong" attitude. He is also said by critics to be a self-proclaimed expert on the English language that corrects everyone's spelling and grammer, however any person placed with a position of responsibility or 'control' over others will often be targetted as 'evil', particularly by those who have been recipients of his 'authoritarianism'. Critics claim some "Stardockians" are very egotistical and sometimes band together to attack any voice of dissent [as is common with any close-knit community] and annoint themselves with self-aggrandizing titles such as "Super Wizop", "Citizen", "Journeyman" as ways to distinguish a member's experience within the community.

Sheesh! I do believe this criticism against WinCustomize (especially to admins and members alike) establishes their insecurities. Can you believe they call us egotists? It's too damned funny! Hey i want to gloat right now. I am a proud citizen of wincustomize. Oh wait i changed my mind. I am a very proud member of the greatest community in the net.

A word of advice to those who hold grudges to WC community: "If you can't beat us (which is very obvious ), join us! Be part of the community."

Sorry guys, I just couldn't resist ranting against those er, 70o$3#s

Any criticisms will almost always boil down to misunderstandings about intent, and given the lack of voice inflection while typing, there are bound to be misunderstandings. That being said, if they could hear the voice inflection of all of the contributors on this site, they would probably come up with a whole new list of egoists and snobs who think that maybe the English language is worth preserving. Bastards! Where do they get off saying that we are anything less than kind and helpful? Besides allowing bichur to rant, who wants trolls, anyway? If I had a rock I'd throw it through their car window.

Indeed, that is a first for me as well.

Encyclopedia according to Encarta dictionary = "a reference work offering comprehensive information on all or specialized areas of knowledge."

My summary of the article would have include: "not comprehensive", "not unbiased", and "not really informative".

The edit's only been around a day. This is how articles on Wikipedia get better - people say something, and others disagree with it and then hammer out a better one.

I find the DesktopX and Konfabulator comparison as an example of "Konfabulator bashing" to be completely amazing since the article in question talks about how both ahve advantages over the other.  It doesn't conclude with either being better and doesn't bash anything at all.

It would be like having a section on Wiki about Konfabulator because they bash DesktopX on their forums.

Simply put, someone with an axe to grind is abusing the Wiki system.

WinCustomize
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

WinCustomize.com is a website that was launched in March 2001 by Brad Wardell and Pat Ford, both of whom work at Stardock. It is dedicated to providing content for users to customize their Windows experience, most of which is free to download. The site hosts thousands of skins, themes, icons, wallpapers, and other graphical content that can be used to change virtually every aspects of the Windows graphical user interface.

WinCustomize is also the name of a set of software products offered by Stardock. Most programs not included within their Object Desktop, ThinkDesk or TotalGaming.net subscriptions are sold under the WinCustomize brand.

Site history
The site has grown at a far greater pace than its founders had anticipated. It has managed to avoid having to put many limitations on users or having to resort to pop-up advertising because of its corporate patron Stardock subsidizing.

In 2004, WinCustomize's traffic exceeded 3 million unique visitors per month. Stardock had the site re-designed using ASP.NET to try to decrease the server load and prepare the site to become more self-sufficient. Premium subscriptions have provided a way for users to contribute to supporting the site's continued growth, and have resulted in additional features (including the WinCustomize Browser).

At the end of 2004, WinCustomize "2K5" was launched which provided a whole new interface, personal pages for the new "premium" subscribers, and other features to expand the site's mission to include articles, tutorials, and other information on how users could get the most out of their Windows based PC.

Hey WIKI actually just sets the story straight, only in Criticism section is the problem. So it is the work of one user only,a site admin could as well write another article and post it as Anti-Criticism (like what GreenReaper already did )

...Oh and i just prefer to be named Stardock Customer.
The title "Stardockian" tends to be for people who work at (or for) Stardock, not for their customers (similarly, people who frequent Neowin are Neowinians).
