I don't normally watch much TV, but a show on the making of the Alien movie caught my attention for its reference to H R Giger and his artworks Apart from one piece that someone had turned into a wallpaper, I knew nothing about this great artist so did a search and came up with this site.....familiar with Giger's art or not, it's worth a look.

BTW, the making of 'Alien' is currently showing on Foxtel's Showtime network for those interested in the Giger connection.

Youse boys are incorrigible....showin' off yer newfound abilities with yer newfound toys Coulda waited fer a bit until I got it all together and learnt how to as well Okay, okay, so I'm slow outta da blocks, but that's cos I'm an IT short in my IQ

Anyhow, try to behave yerselves fer a mo while I briefly re-hijack the thread to ask fer opinions on Giger's art. Personally, I'm fascinated by his eye fer detail and intrigued by his 'out there' thought process and imagination.

Giger is totally awesome. They tried to use a lot of his "style" in AVP that was used in the Aliens movie. It's really out of this world. Thanks again for the link!!

I love his dark, kind of twisted, style. That ELP BSS cover is a classic, and, of course, the Alien stuff too.

However, among artists who have done famous album covers, I prefer Roger Dean. http://www.rogerdean.com/ Totally different style, of course.

Great link-- It's a homage to Giger's influence on gaming.
Even if you don't know French, click thru the pages & check out the pictures. It could inspire some skins IMHO

Me too...that's what drew me to his art in the first place. My seriously warped mind never really appreciated the still-life bowls of fruit and flowers kind of art. Rather, I've always had my head in the clouds with sci.fi and fantasy stuff, so discovering Giger's art was a dream come true for me. To me, it has a unique magnetism that envelops you beneath the surface in a surreal world of complex layers and textures thar are a welome escape from the harsh realities of the real world.

No, SD (sorry)....he's an absolute god....in his field, a significant world leader of enormous influence, who I'd dearly love to do my portrait in his surrealistic style. Well it'd be one way to become immortal
