We have some ideas on what the next skinning contest should be.  We want to make it only cover ONE program rather than multiple (gets too hard to manage).

Here are some thoughts:

1) WindowBlinds skinning contest.

2) DesktopX related contest - Best Themes, Best Widgets, Best Animated objects

3) Media Player contest

4) Icon contest

5) Wallpaper contest

6) Screenshot contest

7) Best Suite contest (Visual Style + Wallpaper + Icon Package + Desktop widgets/gadgets put together into a single theme)

8) Other.

I think it should be a Suites contest. That way we could have teams and stuff, and really show off overall talent, not just a single persons like in a WB skin.

Of course, being a wall artist, I'm saying wallpapers. But I do think walls present the most opportunity for creativeness. Just my thoughts...

I think a DesktopX contest would be great. Maybe it would inspire some new widgets instead of the usual weather.

I was also thinking how great of an idea it would be to have a screenshot contest, after all that is the whole purpose of skinning to improve the looks of our desktops...

Windowblinds or a DesktopX theme as there isn't that many "complete" themes for it out there its all mainly weather, calendars, clocks etc and since it has so much potentional to do so much more it would be wicked just to see what skinners can come up with.

Hey,
At first I was thinking a screenshot contest was lame. But as I was reading through the comments an Idea hit me.It would still amount to a "skinning" contest. A person or group would have to use their own new/unreleased skins to customize their desktop. None of the screenshots could contain released skins nor could the skins be released until a winner/winners selected. By the end of the contest quite a clamour could be created for the release of the winning skins as well as many runner ups. It would probably involve more collaboarations too, as opposed to single entrants as there a bunch of different apps to skin although you could go it alone if you wanted to and are able. You wouldn't even have to be able to skin to work with a group on an entry. I know quite a few people like to upload screenshots, well, that could be their role on the "team". Anyway, just a thought.

Since I used to be a Screenshot-only type of person...I have a respect for the work than CAN go into them. I've debated this online with friends, and their answer is always "a screenshot is still just a screenshot". But think how much time goes into hunting down those perfect icons or that wallpaper...that's the fun of skinning afterall. Ultimately, you make skins to make your desktop look better. You damn sure use skins to make your desktop look better. Well, just how some skins are better than others...some desktops look better than others. Think of it like interior decorating...for your PC. I've always said a GOOD screenshot goes unappreciated.

A Suite contest, I like your idea CerebroJD. Teamster of people putting together a suite, imagine the possibilities and all the ideas there are so many talented artists/designers this type of contest could make history. One team, One suite to submit, One grand prize.....sleep on that thought for a while Brad.

How about MusicMatch Jukebox? I love that MP3 player, but it's got the lamest, paltry handful of skins imaginable. It's about time MMJB got the treatment!

When people buy Object Desktop, do they say "Stardock is the ones who make the great screenshots". (No). "Stardock is the ones who make the great media players". (No) "Stardock is the ones who make the great wallpapers". (No).

They say "Stardock is the ones who brung WindowBlinds to life". So I say, stick with what works. That way, everyone wins.

I'm up for a "best suite" contest. The only forseeable problem lies with the amount of work for one person. As already mentioned, a suite contest might be a bit fudgy when it comes to the prizes because, with maybe the exception of a few people like Tiggz (who might win it all anyway), few people have the ability to put together the whole package in a superb way.
That being said, although a "suite" competition might bring more bang for the buck, a Windowblinds contest would probably generate the most interest and entries.

i'd prefer to see DesktopX widgets or themes -- or full themes. or WindowBlinds. or maybe media players? eh. all the cool stuff -- so hard to pick.

since "all of the above" is what i'd *like* to answer, i suppose what i'd really like to see would be the full suites.

that way, more cool stuff!

I think it would be neat, some day, to see a contest for people who have never, ever skinned anything.  It might give new people incentive and courage to get involved.  It would probably have to happen when everyone is all contested out though.

The only problem I can see with a screenshot contest is that, technically, if someone uploads a good one, anyone else could upload it as well.
Oh! and wasn't the last contest we had for windowblinds?
