What does your blog mean to YOU?

What does your blog mean to YOU?

We have a broad spectrum of bloggers here at JU.  Folks from all walks of life, from all ethnicities.  People with wildly differing political viewpoints, sexual orientations and preferences, religions and life philosophies....people who are formally educated to the Nth degree and people, people who aren't (but who are sharp as all get out anyway).

We have business owners, stay-at-hom-moms, doctors, legal professionals, retirees, teachers, students, military personnel blogging from Iraq...we have all kinds of people blogging here.

Each of these people blogs for a very different reason.  Some people use their blogs as a soapbox to get up on.  Some people write poetry and prose, others write music reviews.  Still more use blogging as a life journal, a way to express their thoughts and feelings.  We even have bloggers who advertise their wares and services here (*thinking of Diamond D *).

My blog is about me.  I'm not writing to entertain anyone else but me.  I write about what happens in my daily existence, about my kids and my husband and my home and yard. I write about my thoughts and  feelings...I write about ME. I write about broken thumbs and guitars, about carmel apple pecan pies and kids playing with firecrackers, about deployments and the Dhammapadda....I look at my blog as a cyber journal/scrapbook, complete with pictures of me and mine.  Mundane?  Boring?  Dull?  Maybe.  I'm sure some people think reading my blog is about as interesting as watching paint dry.  I don't really care.  If they don't like it, they can not read it.  There are thousands of other blogs here to choose from...and that's the beauty of JU.  Because we have such a wide base of bloggers, we also have a wide choice of blogs.  There's somehthing here for everyone.

So, JU, tell me.....what does you blog mean to you? Why do you write?  And what do you write about?

That's part of why I write. Some people paint and draw, some sing...I write.

I have no artistic talent, and my singing can empty a church faster than an Amen!

First of all:

Except i get to get advice from much smarter and much wiser people

IG, it is so nice of you to say this and mention me in the same sentance. Thank you very much. You don't know what it means to me at the moment.

Now, the reason I blog is because I have a need in me to express some of the thoughts I have about my world and how I see everyone else's worlds. I blog because I am a communicator and a seeker of knowledge. The only way I know to learn more is in open and honest exchange and a blog is the perfect place for this activity.

I began blogging as I wanted to keep a diary of my adventures in London. I was also embarking on the scary journey of writing a novel so i figured any extra curricular writing could only help. I had no understanding about how much of a community a blog site can be and I was slowly but surely was lured in to the spirit of the place. As with most things, my attention was not held - mainly because of people leaving, bickering and being generally unsupportive - but also because a high level of usage isn't really sustainable in my life. I pulled back.

After a reasonable break I found myself drawn back in here with what I consider a 'healthier' way of viewing the site (for me anyway) - lots of fun and a great opportunity to write honestly about things that were going on with the added bonus of getting great support and advice from people who take the time to care about some strangers who happen to have chanced upon one another in the huge realm of cyberspace. Although my frequency of blogging is no where near your's, I'm a little like you Dharma - it's my life and if it bores you feel free to read someone else's blog.

Good question,

Suz xxx
