What does your blog mean to YOU?

We have a broad spectrum of bloggers here at JU.  Folks from all walks of life, from all ethnicities.  People with wildly differing political viewpoints, sexual orientations and preferences, religions and life philosophies....people who are formally educated to the Nth degree and people, people who aren't (but who are sharp as all get out anyway).

We have business owners, stay-at-hom-moms, doctors, legal professionals, retirees, teachers, students, military personnel blogging from Iraq...we have all kinds of people blogging here.

Each of these people blogs for a very different reason.  Some people use their blogs as a soapbox to get up on.  Some people write poetry and prose, others write music reviews.  Still more use blogging as a life journal, a way to express their thoughts and feelings.  We even have bloggers who advertise their wares and services here (*thinking of Diamond D *).

My blog is about me.  I'm not writing to entertain anyone else but me.  I write about what happens in my daily existence, about my kids and my husband and my home and yard. I write about my thoughts and  feelings...I write about ME. I write about broken thumbs and guitars, about carmel apple pecan pies and kids playing with firecrackers, about deployments and the Dhammapadda....I look at my blog as a cyber journal/scrapbook, complete with pictures of me and mine.  Mundane?  Boring?  Dull?  Maybe.  I'm sure some people think reading my blog is about as interesting as watching paint dry.  I don't really care.  If they don't like it, they can not read it.  There are thousands of other blogs here to choose from...and that's the beauty of JU.  Because we have such a wide base of bloggers, we also have a wide choice of blogs.  There's somehthing here for everyone.

So, JU, tell me.....what does you blog mean to you? Why do you write?  And what do you write about?

Therapy is expensive.

I just write because I like to write. No other reason really. Well, ok, there is also the whole community thing. Getting some insights into other people and their lives and thoughts.

But mostly just because I like to write.

Oh...I think the more appropriate question for me is, "What don't I write about?"

However, why I write is probably easier for me to answer. I write for several reasons such as: Getting my poetry out there, therapy, humor, rants, random thoughts and feelings. I just like to write sometimes...unless it's for a school assignment then I freaking hate it.

Hehe...yep!

I think that the community is the thing that keeps a lot of bloggers coming back.  it's nice to have feedback about what you write and think.

Me too....

I think of it as a place for me to upload my thoughts.

That seems to be a common reason..

It has been said that "Life is a Country Song". I don't know how into country you are Dharma, but this article reminded me so much of a Trace Adkins song. Just change "songs" to "blog" and you tell me how far off I am...

SONGS ABOUT ME.
Trace Adkins

I met a guy on the red eye
He spotted my guitar
and said what do you do?
I said, I sing for a living,
Country music mixed with
a little rock and a little blues
He said I'm sorry
but I've never been crazy
'bout that twang and trains and hillbilly thing
What ever made you want to sing stuff like that?
I just looked at him and laughed and said

cause it's songs about me
and who I am
songs about loving and living
and good hearted women and family and God
yeah they're all just
songs about me
songs about me

So I offered him tickets
I said you'll see what I mean
if you show up tonight
he said I doubt you'll change my opinion
I'll be kind of busy, but hey man, I'll try

Then later on when we finished our songs
about scars and cars and broken hearts
I saw him, he was standing there
right next to the stage
and he shouted
man you were right
it was like you sang those

songs about me
and who I am
songs about loving and living
and good hearted women and family and God
yeah they're all just
songs about me
songs about me

So I'll just keep on singing
'til I hear the whole world singing those

songs about me
and who I am
songs about loving and living
and good hearted women and family and God
yeah they're all just
songs about me
songs about me Link

In answer to your question though. There is the reason I write and the reason I read. Since they are two far different reasons, I chose to answer your one question both ways.

I write because there is something in me that tells me I must write. When I was a teen it was dark poems that could easily have been the lyrics for any number of heavy metal songs. I also wrote comedy with nothing more in mind than see people laugh.

I classify myself as a blogger as basically a wannabe columnist. My satires, serious and political pieces mostly say the same things, just presented in different ways. Most of them are how I really feel, some, just for the laugh. Just like you, and Trace Adkins, I write about ME, and welcome others in on the joke or the thought.

I read because life has taught me that there is nothing more boring than a room full of people who agree on everything. I mean really, once you get past the "yeah, that's what I think," "You are so-o-o-o-o-o spot on!" or "Wow, how cool you must be to think so much like me", where do you go from there?

My favorite bloggers are those with whom I agree, but my favorite blogs are the ones that get my Gulf War Syndrome going! ;~D

Give me a few laughs and you have a cyberbuddy forever, get my goat, and you have a loyal reader! I'll call them names, rant and rave about their intelligence and even congratulate them for a well thoughtout return shot. In the end, what higher form of flattery is there than showing up in another's blog day after day. ;~D

I'm glad you write about you, because well, reading about you is all so often reading about me! ;~D

(((Other than the drooping boobs... my droopiness is a single thing that didnt' used to hide my belt buckle. )))) ;~D

Happy Mother's Day!!!

I don't think there is one, Ted.  I'm glad that you blog...I may not always agree with you, and I may not always understand what you're talking about (I can be a bit dense at times), but you're one of the nicest Mormon's I've ever met ( the other nice ones are Life and Dev).

That was a brilliant comeback.  Seriously awesome.  Hey, when are you going to show up on my 'Show and Tell' thread?  I'd like to get a look at you....

Hmmmm...I don't know really why I write. I guess I just do. And as Junie B. Jones would say "that's all."

Writing is therapeutic to me...if I'm having a bad day...I write about it...if I'm overjoyed, I write about it.

And I appreciate the people who respond to my blogs and give me new insights, whether or not I agree with them.

Sometimes I just need a new point of view...

Hi ya Dharma
Initally I signed on to JU so I'd have a blog that family didn't know the addy! A place to let out my good and also darker side.
I wanted to blog about my younger years, gripe about family, and just try to figure out things by seeing them in writing.
Writing with a pen or pencil hurt my hands, so this was the ticket.
NOW, it's changed. I love to read what others have written, it's good to see the same "faces" daily
It's also been gratifying to get comments and communicate with a wide array of people!
I really do need to stay away from political threads though! I'm outta my league there!

Just think of them as a sewer where some of the rats prefer to chew on the right leg, others the left one.

Aww!  So, give us a description of yourself, then...

Hmmmm...I don't know really why I write. I guess I just do. And as Junie B. Jones would say "that's all."

That's a good enough reason.....just like I post pics just because I want to and because I can.

Sometimes I just need a new point of view...

You know, there have been times when people here have given me exactly what I needed but didn't know it...whether it be a kick in the ass or a shoulder to cry on.  A different POV can be very gratifying sometimes.

Writing with a pen or pencil hurt my hands, so this was the ticket

That's the problem I have with the old-style journaling.  My handwriting is horrible, and it makes me hands hurt!  I guess that's another sign of the times....

I love to read what others have written,

Me too!

I really do need to stay away from political threads though! I'm outta my league there!

Again, me too!

The reason that I blog has vastly changed since I've signed up at JU.

Last June, I was fullfilling a credit for a philosophy class and the professor was experimenting with different ways to evalute students. We were presented with a few options. We could either take tests and write papers, or keep a journal. The professor had suggested that we try keeping our journals online so they would be easy to reference. One day I was scoping out different blog sites and I stumbled upon JU and have been here ever since. If you look back to my first 20 or so posts, they maily deal with the readings from class.

Once class ended, I considered just ending my blog, but I found it very theraputic to post my thoughts and feelings. Some of my posts are both relevant and irrelevant to life, so read at your own risk!!

5'10", 165lbs., black hair, hazel eyes.

The community thing and getting feedback are what I like about blogging.

As long as they're relevant and meaningful to you, that's all that matters. I like reading what you write...I liked hearing how excited you were about getting married, then you moved, and now...well chick, I wish we lived closer together. I think we'd do really well together IRL.

That's what keeps myself and a lot of other people here too.

Iconoclast, I WANT a picture! heh!

Oh and Dharma, i blog cuz it'll be the witness to my life one day, just like a diary i suppose. Except i get to get advice from much smarter and much wiser people (shovelheat, dynamaso and Dr Guy just to name a few;) ). And i get a good laugh most of the time from the comments, hehe.

I'm really glad i found this little space. It's very rewarding

Like alisonwatkins, I had to blog as part of my journalism class. IIntially, I wasn't into it. But I then began to like feedback and looseness of it. Since I couldn't post my music reviews on my school blog. So I searched and found JU. I've been here for over a year now.

I chose music reviews since it's something I'm passionate about. I'm not into talking about my personal life. But I do like sharing funny stories every once in awhile. Although I've found I will talk about bits and pieces of my life on other people's blogs (if they bring up something that had happened to them.)

I like reading personal journals simply because it's a glimpse into someone else's life. Much like Trudy, I stay away from the poli sci blogs because my knowledge is limited. I read the newspaper and tha's about it.

And some on both!

I blog, therefore I am.  It is a creative outlet.

I know, isn't it great?! We have some really sharp and wise folks here...

I feel somewhat voyeuristic sometimes because I enjoy reading about other people's lives. Trudy and Gideon for example...both fascinating people. Ted too, he's got some good stuff going on.

That's part of why I write. Some people paint and draw, some sing...I write.

My blog is my voice. And it is the voice of others who have no voice.

I find that very interesting, Gid. I've always enjoyed reading your blog, btw..

I wish we did, too! We'd run amuck! We seem to have a ton in common.

Thanks for being a reader of my blog!
