Enhanced Dialog Beta

Enhanced Dialog Beta

Object Desktop starts 2005 with a bang!

The first beta of Enhanced Dialogs is now available for Object Desktop users.  Enhanced File Dialogs seamlessly hook in to replace the standard Windows file dialogs. Now users can control which icons show up on the left, always have resizable dialogs, and they actually remember what view you last used (details, icons, etc.).

If you don't already have Object Desktop, definitely look at getting it.  It's a must-have utility suite for enhancing your Windows experience. www.objectdesktop.com.

Sir Lotherius: your default icon association isnt set correctly and has been replaced by another application. If you have IconPackager installed, select the Repair icons option from the Tools menu. This should fix your problem.

Gallus: What application is that you are having problems with? What OS are you using?

Developer bagginz:

No dice - Repair Icons in IconPackager did not fix the problem - still getting the "ico" images. I also tried installing several different icon packages, including restoring the windows default icons, followed again by "repair icons" and "rebuild icon cache" both - still getting the broken icon images. I had proper images there without Enhanced Dialog.

as anyone should know, there IS a history link on SDC. when you read it it says and I quote :

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Windows 2000/XP or later required.

Enhance your common file dialogs with additional features, including
most recently used folders, shortcuts, sorting options, custom sizing,
text shortcuts, grid lines, and more!

0.80
------
A reboot is required after a new installation or update for Enhanced
Dialog to function.

Some applications (e.g. CorelDraw and Microsoft Office apps) have
their own custom File dialogs. Enhanced Dialog will not modify those.

If you create a .lnk shortcut and place it in the .\Shortcuts subdirectory,
you can type the name of that shortcut in the File name field in a
dialog to jump to that location. An example root.lnk has been included
that will change to C:\.

Holding down the left Ctrl key when launching an app will bypass the
Enhanced Dialog loading for that instance of the program. There is an
exclusion list that can be used if something is really unhappy, but please
let us know via [email protected] what you've had to exclude.

I have no idea about the java, since I don't have any of it installed. it seems to work perfect here. I'm not a tech support guy for stardock though. as for the ico files I have no idea. and I really have no idea about your large dialog boxes. these are all isolated problems from what I can tell. I haven't seen anyone mention anything about them in #stardock.

the ico files i believe is a restart issue. i just uninstalled ED and have not rebooted yet, and now i have the ico issue myself; so I suggest rebooting.

I install Java... However, my dialog window still looks bigger and I can't resize it to make it smaller...

I will try to uninstall and install again!!

I use Windows XP SP2 in Portuguese-Brazil.

I also use FolderChache, which creates an icon in open/save dialog window with a list of recent folders (Link).

I've disabled FolderCache before installing and running ED.

However, I've tested both running without any problem.

I've tried to uninstall, delete some registry keys I've found and then install again, following all the instructions (restart PC...). But, nothing changed...

Same problem as Mr Beasley below only WD and Excel 2002:

"Well, I installed it and then had to uninstall it. MS Word (Office 2003) wouldn't open up when I had it installed. Plus, the initial loading of my machine locked up. Looks great! I'll just wait for the next beta release"

Came good as soon as it was uninstalled

What does enhanced dialog have to do with bluetooth?

I have problems with bluetooth too, since ed is installed.

I've been doing a lot of thinking about what should be in the next version of WindowBlinds. Ok, maybe not a lot, but I have one idea. It's the ability to change the shortcut buttons in the Save and Open dialog box in Windows, to shortcuts of your own. Example, "c:\myOwnFolder\here\". Of course you'd be able to change the icon.

That's a quote from an old thread I made with suggestions for WB 4.5 additions. I think they listened to me http://www2.wincustomize.com/Forums.aspx?ForumID=144&AID=56244#0

I can't wait for some of the bugs to be worked out in this. It looks very promising.

Gallus: the sizing issues have been fixed.

To those having problems with their bluetooth please try the following and let me know what happens:

Can you please try going into the ED settings, and unselecting the Repair shell icons for loaded processes option. Then possibly try rebooting and see if that fixs the problem.

I've installed the last version and all started fine. Applications that I executed:

1) Metapad (not notepad)
2) Visual Basic 6 (VB6)
3) MacroRunner (Link)

The first problem occurred with VB6. I had that bigger dialog window.

I excluded VB6.

However, when I started MacroRunner I got the bigger dialog window again...

I'm not sure what will happen in my next PC restart but I will tell you...

Finally, one of the issues I have with Enhanced Dialogs is that it tends to shift the dialog window to the top of the screen. I used to use my Windows taskbar at the top and, sometimes, the dialog window was shifted behind the taskbar!

I moved my taskbar at the button again. Too many isues with Stardock applications (see the forum topic:
Link).

That's all!

The bigger dialog window still remains.

I run MacroRunner, Metapad and Windows' Notepad.

Only Notepad has a normal open/save dialog window.

Well for what it's worth, I am having the same issues with the .ico icons showing up in all my dialogues. I am currently using Orion - Onyx, and have tried the restart, and repair suggestions from earlier in the thread. I am also now noticing, although they may not be related, that the icons have disappeared from the left side of my SD Central app! (Although since I just downloaded an update to it last night, it MAY be from that.) I just thought it a very weird coincidence.

I am getting the enhanced Save dialogues though, just the first six icons (back, up, new folder, view menu, search and settings) have .ico icons.

McAfee Security Center won't run when I have this loaded.
