Cannot "Enable Fences" via the right click contextual menu.

I can't get fences to enable despite several attempts. I've tried using the sd and fs installers, I've purged and reinstalled several times now. I've tried doing it through my AzureAD administrator account and a local administrator account.

Current Windows Version: Windows 10 Pro 64bit 22H2 (19045.2006)

I don't know how I can be any more detailed in my description of what is occurring. WinDBG creates no logs as no crash is occurring. The program simply fails to function as expected. Nothing happens when the "Enable Fences" right click context menu item is clicked.

The current version of Fences installed is 4.0.7.2 all windows and hardware updates have been applied.

Processor: Intel Core 17-3770

Memory: 8192MB Ram

Display: Intel HD Graphics 4000

VRAM: 32MB

Total video memory: 1792MB

The only AV programs running are default windows defender applications.

The program itself launches as normal beyond the inability to create snapshots, or an automatic layout.

Please uninstall Fences V4.0.7.2, reboot and install the latest Fences ref here: https://forums.stardock.com/516973/. Make sure to reboot again after installation. Retest and report back.

Didn't seem to help. I have two running entries in task manager.

Shouldn't there be some kind of service running though?

I tried running it in different compatibility modes also and that didn't fix it either.

Doesn't seem like there's a solution to this. I've never had this much trouble running fences before and I've been using it since it was first released.

What happen if you enable Fences via the Fences config windows. Any error pop up? And try to update to latest Windows 10 22H2 (Os Build 19045.2604) or later.

This is an issue with fences 4. As seen in the below screenshot fences 3 has no problems whatsoever.

Is it possible to transfer my registration keys to a fences 3 license or should i request a refund and repurchase?

I don't think registration keys transfer is possible and for refund please refer here: https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1330380801/Stardock+Return+Policy.

Please let us know if you still wish to continue looking into your Fences 4 issue. Also it might help if you refer to this simple test and see if it help troubleshoot your issue: https://forums.stardock.com/514583/get;3875625

I am having the exact same problem on a laptop where I just did a fresh install of Windows 10 x64. All the latest Windows 10 updates are installed. As one of the very first non-Microsoft apps I installed Fences 4.0.7.2 and activated it with my 5-pack key. But I can't enable it. No matter how often I uninstall/reinstall with reboots in between, all I get is the 'Enable Fences' entry in the right-click menu. No reaction when I click that entry. I followed the advice I found in the database regarding moving all desktop icons into an 'All Icons' folder, but that doesn't help.

Is it possible that Fences thinks I have exceeded my 5-pack limit? I currently have Fences 4 activated on 3 other systems. This laptop I'm having the problem with would be #4. This is the 3rd time I'm reinstalling Windows on it and the 3rd time I'm installing/activating Fences 4 on it, always using the same host name. Could it be that Stardock is tracking each one of these re-installations as a new activation? If so, this would be activation #6. If so, how can I deactivate the first two uses on this same laptop in the Stardock database?

Thanks for the quick reply. I checked and I'm within my 5-pack activation limit. So that takes me back to the problem the original poster and I are seeing. There's only 'Enable Fences' on the right-click menu and nothing happens when I click that. What's the next step in troubleshooting/fixing this? Note: this is a fresh reinstall of Windows 10. I'm open to perform any troubleshooting steps you recommend including starting fresh with another reinstall of Win 10. I'm even willing to give you remote access via Teamviewer, if that helps.

I just wanted to mention, that originally I was running Windows 10 on this laptop with Fences 4 activated and working. Then I wiped it out and did a fresh install of Windows 11, where I was able to install and activate Fences 4 just fine. But now I'm going back to Windows 10 on this laptop (too old and slow for Win 11) and Fences 4 does not work on it. It did work before, so why not now?

What version of Windows 10 before you upgrade to Windows 11 and what version of Windows 10 you're using now? What version of Fences 4 you're trying to use?

Also, Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version (V4.10.06(Beta)) from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

I purged and reinstalled 4.106-j107 as instructed. Still the same problem - 'Enable Fences' in the right click menu with no reaction to clicks. This laptop is currently running Windows 10 Home 22H2. Previously it was running Windows 11 Home 22H2 and before that Windows 10 Home first 22H1, then upgraded to 22H2. Under both of these Windows installations Fences 4 ran just fine. What's next?

Do you know how to fix this? I have encounter the same problem. Context menu works on version 3 but does not on version 4. I also can't delete fences and folders.

I have the exact same problem. Win10 running with plenty of ram and space, updated today from fences 2 to fences 4 and cannot create a folder or do any featured choices at all.
