Failure of attempted upgrade to Fences Version 3.13 from Version 3.0.9.11.

Version 3.0.9.11 worked OK and still does.  The installation of Version 3.13 seemed to go ahead normally until the following error message appeared:

"The uninstall executable file could not be written because it is already in use. Close all running uninstalls and click Retry to continue. Click Cancel to abort."

As no Uninstalls were running I had to click on Abort. A reminder to install the new version is naturally presented on every boot-up of my "W10 64-bit, Home, Version 20H2, OS 19042.1165" and always produces the above error message.

I would be happy to permanently stop the reminder message if I could, but ideally would like to install Version 3.13 if I could be certain of being able to return safely to Version 3.0.9.11. in the event of problems.

Any help will be gratefully received - thanks in anticipation.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here: https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#reinstalling Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purged. Reinstall, and Reboot immediately after the installation. Retest it. Report back here.

Thank you Basj,

Unfortunately I can't install the latest version because even the free version of 3.1 produces the error message and I can't get beyond that point.

I am going to try to reinstall version 3.0.9.11 to see what that does but, unfortunately, I don't have the original installation file on this  computer so there will be a short delay while I acquire it - sorry.

Please confirm, you have issue with V3.1X? There was V3.10 which was pull off due to some crashing issue and compatibilities with WPE. And was then replaced with V3.12 and now with V3.13. So which one you still have issue with. Have you tried V3.13 yet?

For reference Fences version history : https://www.stardock.com/products/fences/history

Thank you.

I am still running version 3.0.9.11 and have no issues with it.   I have tried to upgrade to version 3.0X many times (where X is whatever was current at the time of the attempt).  All attempts failed to install version 3.0X due to the error that I reported above. I have therefore been unable to try version 3.13 because the install always fails.

I wanted to try reinstalling version 3.0.9.11 as a test but unfortunately I only had a link from Ashampoo but it now points to version 3.13 so I am unable to test a reinstall of 3.0.9.11.

I wonder if Stardock would be so kind as to send me a download link for Fences 3.0.9.11 so that I will be able to reinstall it in the event of failure?

I would naturally prefer to get version 3.13 running and would be happy to purchase it rather than use an upgrade if it would achieve this.

However, the free trial will not install either.

From what I know the last version with 3.0X is 3.09. Now we have move to V3.1X.

Have you tried the purge and reinstalled steps as I mentioned above and did you download the latest version from your account? Not really sure why you still need to use the free trial version if you already have a paid version.

BTW, the purge is important. Please follow the steps again and report back. Reboot after the purge and reboot again immediately after installation.

Thank you.

The reason for trying the free trial installation was simply to see if it produced the same error message - purely curiosity prior to trying the purge and reinstall procedure that you suggest.

I have not tried the procedure yet because version 3.0.9.11 is running perfectly and I don't want to risk jeopardising this until my wife has completed a major project that is almost finished now.

I expect to try it in about 2-weeks time and will let you know the result then.

Thank you,
