Power button disapeared in win7 & modern style

I have been using Start 10 since the beginning with no problems. The other day I opened my win7 style start 10 menu to restart my computer but the power button at the bottom wasn't there. I still have the option on what it does in configuration but no button. I did a complete uninstall then downloaded and installed a new copy through OD installer but still no power button. I had to install a widget power button. Does anyone know why its no longer displayed and how I can get it back?

Hello,

Would you do this PURGE: https://forums.stardock.com/486022/start10-support-faq#reinstalling

Reboot and ReInstall the latest version from your account . Reboot and test and report back .

Purge is different than a regular un install .

I did a purge, reboot and install. Still no power button. When I ran the purge I saw several lines with error registry entry not found.

Hello,

I just checked and that link still work for me. Might be the server down when you tried to download. Please try again. If still can not download, it might be your computer or browser block that download. Try different browser or different computer to download it.

1. We applied your bat file to uninstall Purge_StartALL.

2. We did a reboot.

3. Made a clean new installation of Start10. Another reload.

And the error persists, the Shutdown and Restart buttons DO NOT WORK.

How to fix it ???

What do you mean? Shutdown and Restart buttons do not show up or its there but not working. The OP mentioned that the power buttons don't show up.

Displayed, but not working. This happens in the Modern Style interface

When you click on them, the mouse cursor moves to the center of the screen and nothing happens

At the same time, the Change User, Log Out, and Lock Out buttons work perfectly

In order for me to reboot I have to use the CTRL button to call the standard START menu from Windows 10 and already use the Shutdown and Restart buttons there

There might be some other software conflict with Start10. Please try cleanboot steps as mentioned here : https://forums.stardock.com/486022/start10-support-faq#cleanboot. Try that and report back.

Of course, this method of uninstalling

using a file http://sd.stardock.com/zubaz/apps/Purge_StartALL.bat

We have produced 3 times. and each time they overloaded and made a new installation of Start10

and it DOESN'T HELP !

What to do next ?

PS:

Moreover, we see that the new version of Start10 has not been released for more than one year (((and during this time, Microsoft has made a lot of updates in its Windows.

My previous respond (Reply#10) I was asking you to do "Cleanboot" Steps not "Purge and Reinstall". Have you try it?

  1. Windows version, please use Winver.exe for full version numbers.
  2. Start10 version installed.
  3. System CPU : Intel, AMD or ARM(Snapdragon)?

Yes, we did a clean install under a new account. Moreover, the error is observed in this method. We put a clean Windows 10, install it under the Administrator # 1 Star10 everything works fine. Creating Administrator # 2 it already immediately has this error. If you switch to # 1, there will be no error in it. And then if you remove Administrator # 1 from under Administrator # 2 create Administrator # 3 then the error will be in both accounts #2 and # 3

Version 1.95 which is downloaded from your site is the latest

Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-10940X CPU @ 3.30GHz

I should jump in here and point out that Start10 1.95 was released in August 2020 which is considerably less than one year ago.  Also Start 10 1.96 is currently in beta.

Additionally you seem to be running a version of Windows 10 which is over a year older than Start10 1.95 when Microsoft finally released that version.

With regards to your issue, it sounds like the software does not have permission to perform those operations.  As to why you would have an issue with one user but not another I cannot explain, but as it is a special version of Windows it could be the cause of the issue.

alas, the enterprise version of Windows 10 LTSB and Windows Server 2019 have only V1809 and are updated every 4 years. Microsoft policy. At the same time, as we know, your application has not been updated for a couple of years. So this error is caused by Start10 and not Windows. We are waiting for suggestions on how you can solve this problem ? We can provide remote access to demonstrate the error

the error appears even on a clean system. In the first user, the Administrator, everything works fine, in any next one there is such an error. ((( I think you should have a tool for diagnosing and collecting logs from users in your program ? We can also give remote access to illustrate this situation... The problem needs to be solved somehow. Windows itself works perfectly and without complaints.

Why do you believe our software has not been updated in a couple of years?

The version you are using is six months old but v1.96 was released today which I would recommend trying as a first step.

With regards to your issue, are you sure both admins have the exact same permissions?  It very much sounds like the user does not have permission to shut the pc down.

Did this previously work for you, or have you only recently installed Start10 on this machine?

1. Updated to 1.96 error present.

2. Deleted everything, cleaned through the bat file made a clean installation 1.96 there is an error

3. If the second administrator had no rights, then from the normal Windows menu, the Restart and Shutdown commands would also not work. And they work perfectly by calling the standard Windows menu via the CTRL button

What are your assumptions? Can you connect remotely ?

The most likely explanation is the api ExitWindowsEx fails on your setup.  This will not work if you are not the interactive user.  Is it possible that is the case here?

Hi, I started this thread and spent several days trying your suggestions but got sidetracked with other things. Sorry for not responding sooner. I see I'm not the only one with this problem. I finally found my problem and for me it wasn't just start10. The problem was with Start10 and another Stardock program Windowblinds which I have also been using since it first came out. It has become such an intrecal  part of my desktop I don't think about it. I hardly ever change skins and Start10 is set to use Windowblinds. It appears that after the last major upgrade of Windows 10 some of my skins aren't displaying properly, some skins work great others have minor display problems like not showing the power button while others give me a corrupted or blank start menu. I also found that when I open Windowblinds some skins won't display in the preview window but will load. It appears that Stardock needs to workout a few bugs with the newest Windows 10 update. I really appreciate all your help and I hope you all find a solution.

this "is an ExitWindowsEx api failure" is not possible, as we have repeated the experiment three times with completely reinstalling Windows cleanly )) and in any version, in its own START menu, all the functions work, and in Start10, under the second created administrator (not the first), the functions refuse to work (while the functions let's say Exit and Change the user work fine, even though they are in the same drop-down list Start10)

Specifically, I don't have Stardock Windowblinds. But then chno Start10 does not work as required that's for sure ! We are waiting for the developers to find this error and fix it. I think it needs to be given a CRITICAL STATUS, a very large number of people have two or more administrator accounts on their PC. It turns out that in the first one everything works and in all the others there is a glitch

I believe, I have the latest official release version of Windows 10 and I don't see the problem you mentioned here. Would like to know some information on your system. What version of Windows 10 you have on your system? Please use Microsoft Winver.exe to get Windows full version numbers. And please list down those WB style you having trouble with so we can try it out on our end.
