Fences disappear BUT double clicking desktop does NOT get them back. Had to restart and fences appeared after a short delay.

Fences disappeared BUT double clicking desktop did NOT get them back. Eventually had to restart PC and fences appeared after a short delay. What do I do if this happens again - short of re-starting. Thanks.
