Wallpapers

I am disgusted from the way you have treated me. I have sent you 5-6 wallpapers (fairly good) and did not accept anyone. It is the last time I send you any wallpapers. >

GA, those are excellent WP's too, I have downloaded some of yours and Smoopy's. So am I getting this right...it's best to make a skin first then do a wallpaper to match? or just make a wallpaper that perhaps matches some current skins on here?

it also seems to me that there are so many skins that look alike and in every color of the rainbow, where does one go from there?

Well, what I meant was that WC is a skinning site and the wallpaper section of it isn't necessarily the direct purpose of the website.....please don't confuse that you have to make walls that compliment any skin (I don't). It's just that with the varied walls (colors and by design) that they compliment the skins and that in itself is a bonus.

I can say that only recently the skins are starting to look very much alike.....I have a few old ones that I use religiously and I rarely download any of the news ones because they are all similiar.

Hmm. Make a wallpaper that is from your own creativity that gives YOU pleasure to look at... I never make stuff to go with anything...even my own stuff (yeah, guess I could be more disciplined). Which is why my stuff is rather 'different'...even my cursors...they really are all individually unique.

The big thing...is to really take time with your work...don't make a wallpaper in a few hours...take a few spare hours when you can over at least a span of a week at first and really tweak it and perfect it and put your 'vision' into it.

Oh and I love G_A's stuff...too! He's a bryce-master!

Oh, and of course learning the APP of your choice is imperative to making your creative juices flow easier. Nothing is more frustrating than not knowing how to achieve a certain effect or technique...such as softening an edge so there are no jaggies or using lighting to give more depth and feeling to an image...etc.

I use Paintshop Pro which has hundreds of free tutorials online by users etc.

BTW, when I first started submitting walls to WC...I was a big, loud-mouthed cry-baby and I lamented and bemoaned my rejections. Gee, looking back, I can't believe how patient everyone was with me! he-eh!

I hate that I'm so addicted to this site....maybe after the newness of it wears off I'll get something else done....like a skin... bye.

JM: there are stil some original works, but there was a day last week when I looked at the upload cue and all the wall there (about 12 or so) all looked like they were made by you. But no, to my surprise they were made by 5 or 6 different artists. I do not mean your stuff isn't nice, it is. But when a bunch of submissions start having the same style, then we have a problem.
I won't post examples in public, but if you want, I can send you links be email and I'm sure you'll understand what I mean.

I find myself in the that position, paxx.

Do you think that maybe what it could be is that an artist (let's say myself) posts a wall that was really popular and then he wants to make similiar ones that may have some what the same elements? I'm sorta there right now....I noticed that I was "beginning" to make the same stuff. When I first started making walls Bryce was so new to me that I was trying all different types of things.

I'm actually taking a break from Bryce so hopefully I'll be refreshed and come up with new ways of projecting my imagination

i only use Bryce cause its the only one i understand enough to work with, i have others but no idea how to use them

Green Armani...yes, I'd noticed also a bit of repetition creeping into your walls. Having an individual 'style' is fine, however, but one would hope that there would be an on-going progression of development or refinement, perhaps culminating in diversification through experimentation. [OK, I'm sure there was an easier way to put that]...

A great example of an artist showing creative variety would be Nuvem [Helder]. Take a look at his collection of works at DeviantART.com....just about every medium there is....explored [and mastered]...

Bryce is a great proggy to create 'things', but is almost always made 'greater' when combined with additional graphic apps...[PSP, Photoshop]...to create REAL diversity and help break the 'predictably Bryce' mold...

Paxx, there is no need for you to explain to me about that, I happened to notice it myself (at least the ones that were accepted, anyway). There is no way I can make this not sound egotistical but perhaps certain people are perhaps imitating me? Or, perhaps it is merely coincidence. At any rate, I personally don't see the problem. If they are popular, are they not attracting people to this website? And out of these people who are attracted to the site, how many of them ultimately become paying subscribers? Isn't this a good thing? The last time I looked I had close to 32,000 downloads of my 12 wallpapers. How many of those people are or became paying subscribers? Sure, I understand that the true importance of this site lies in the skins which are used by the people who purchase the Stardock software. But how many people coming here looking for wallpapers they like wind up buying the software too because they see all the different skins offered here? How can this not be a good thing?
