Wallpapers

I am disgusted from the way you have treated me. I have sent you 5-6 wallpapers (fairly good) and did not accept anyone. It is the last time I send you any wallpapers. >

hey, put something online somewhere, you're making me curiouse if your walls are 'really' good, or you just think they are...

I have no idea what your walls look like but you just might take Weaksids advice and try your hand at skinning something...

To BoXXi....I would like to take the risk...and make a comment here. I am having a hard time understanding WC rules of submission. ( I have read them). It appears to me...and PLEASE Correct me if I'm wrong. That's why I'm writing this. But it seems to me that on here it's not a matter of what you know, but who you know and how much you have contributed to the site. I have seen wallpapers from people that have been on WC probably since it's creation that submit wallpapers that are just plain UGLY. But it seems that they get accepted because they have contributed a lot of skins. People keep saying on these threads that they encourage negative remarks about their work because it makes them do better. But what about the newbies that are learning and contribute that don't get their work accepted. It would appear to me that if they were accepted (once) that the maker would get comments on how to improve what they are doing. Instead, their work is rejected and they get discouraged from making anymore skins. Please help me and perhaps other newbies to understand what it is exactly that you are looking for. Thank You.

Princess, people with Journeyman access or higher do not go through moderation. Their uploads are automatically approved. Usually, we only promote to Journeyman people who we trust the quality of their work. But it can happen that some piece of work from those people once in a while are not top quality. We have been known to go back and reject some wallpapers that had been automatically approved because of the Jorneyman status of its author. But I must admit that is not a habit we have.
Usually, people with Journeyman status are trusted to upload quality work.

There are a few reasons why it's like that. For one, it alleviates a bit the amount of moderation we have to do, and for two it's a way to reward people who have been contributing for a long time with their quality of work. Since we can't pay them, it seems fair that we reward them in some way.

Hope this clarifies the question.

Thank You Paxx for explaining that, however, I did assume that someone with highter status would get their work automatically accepted, and I agree with you, they SHOULD be rewarded for their hard work, as should everyone who makes a skin who makes a skin that gets accepted. My other question is...so many of the wallpapers and skins (by everyone) not just Journeymen look very much alike, like they were almost copied. I know that a lot of work goes into making skins and wallpapers, I spent countless hours on the one in my profile, I didn't expect it to be accepted, I just wanted something in my profile. So please tell me what I could have done differently. I've seen wallpapers from "citizens" that weren't that good..

Everyone has their own opinion, or else things would get awfully boring.......

I have to agree with you one that one.
But for skins and wallpapers we are talking about 2 different beasts. We do not moderate skins for quality, only wallpapers. The only reason we reject skins are for copyright reasons, for the most part (as well as other ethic reasons such as pornography or such). Wallpapers on the other hand, we moderate, as you know.
So, if indeed we agree that a lot of skins are starting to look alike, we won't do much about it, other than hoping that some talented skinners start getting a bit more originality. Also, there is the "popularity syndrome". Some people are only after the download numbers, and I can tell you that often, the most popular skins are the least original ones. A lot of people have very conservative tastes.
As for wallpapers, we have actually started talking about it. Indeed we found that a lot of wallpapers are starting to look alike. There seems to be an increasing number of people making 3D abstract kindof wallpapers. Although we have nothing against these, when it startes being pretty much the only thing that gets submitted, something needs to be done. So, we may start being even more picky on the wallpapers and the Bryce stuff may even more than before start to be rejected. Not because they are not nice, but because we want a bit more diversity. But again, it's very informal yet, nothing has been officially decided.

I guess I didn't realize that it could be a "popularity syndrome", but now that you've mentioned it, I can certainly see that it can be. Thanks explaining all this to me.

Well Bryce especially gets slammed on this site and it's your site so that's fine by you but I have seen so many photoshop wallpapers on this site that not only all look the same they are extremely ugly. Nothing but patterns and meaningless text and other typical photoshop filter work. If that's what it takes to get your walls accepted here you can count me out.
I make every effort to be more innovative with my work but the stuff I see coming from photoshop turns me right off.
Just my opinion of course and I do notice that a lot of the stuff I find especially unappealing is also extremely popular just going by the download counts. Guess my taste just differs dramatically from your average person's.

Jam do you use Bryce? I don't know anything about Bryce, I use Paint Shop7, should I be using something else to enhance my wallpapers? Since I am new at this, I'm not sure what program to use, I just picked that one..

Princess^Hirmer, yes I use almost exclusively Bryce for my wallpapers, I am learning Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop, I also use Painter a lot and I am currently trying to incorporated several programs into each work. No, they don't all do the same thing.
Each program has marked differences. I say use whatever you want to use as long as YOU are pleased with the results.

Thanks Jam, guess I'm still a little confused, they tell you what they don't want, but don't tell you what they are looking for....horses, ducks, scenery etc...guess I'll just keep plugging away...

Princess, my walls are more of a 'hybrid type' and even so, quite a few got accepted here (I took most of them down from this site since walls move pretty slowly after the initial stage of being here)...

Here is the link to my walls:
http://www.darkseraphim.com/ds/artwork.htm

Here is a list of the names of my walls that were accepted here before:

"Broken Heart Portal"
"Valentine"
"Orion's View"
"Divine"
"3 powers borne"
"Slither"
"Juxtaposed"
"True Love"
"B-Witching hour"

So, just keep working at it... I've often been surprised at what I've gotten accepted here.

Keep trying!

My style is abstract art and fractals and the like so that's all I make.....

If WC does decide that the absract wall is old....I'm afraid they may loose a good amount of artists (not that I'm one by the way).

I thank WC because this is where I found that I had it in me to make something and post it rather then just download other peeps stuff. Tougher guidelines may not make better walls but less of an audience and as it is WC is not directly for walls in the first place, right? It's just a bonus to compliment the skinning apps.

By the way check my fractals and some walls that got moderated here http://greenarmani.deviantart.com/thumbnails/?PHPSESSID=352473d468910892a4b244db2d2f5769 I only have about a fourth of my work on here since I just joined Deviant Art

Schmoopy, those are absolutely beautiful wallpapers, I wish I was that talented, it seems that it takes a certain amount of talent to do that...I have no talent in this area, /me isn't even sure where her talent lies.. I'm having such a hard time understanding Photo Shop and what and how everything works and how to incorporate it into something.. but I will keep trying..I'm determined now..

My walls seem to be objects more then anything. A vision on my dream. I just don't seem to dream in abstract like GA seems to do. I got to say, he does excellent work with Bryce.

S'okay princess...a lot of people add the C to Shmoopy but since it's not my 'real' name I'm not insulted. ! I wouldn't be even if it was my real name...I'd be more mad at my mother for naming that!

Princess...the more rejections I got...the more determined I was to get better...just be stubborn! But always do your work for YOU...

And I like your desktop that you did! You have to remember, that just because something doesn't get 'accepted' here doesn't make it an artistic 'reject' but it just might not be suitable to go well with enough skin apps etc. Sometimes 'less is more' here as far as walls are concerned.
