DesktopX crashed my display in XP! I need help recovering.

I tried DesktopX last night with one of the setups found on this site. I decided it was to busy for my tastes and unloaded it. This is when everything went haywire. My screen (for this particular user account) is mostly black except for the few desktop icons I have. I cannot see the Start Button, Quick Launch, or basically anything (and yes the toolbars have been activated). When I right click on the desktop, I only get the option to Refresh, no properties. Big problem is that this account is where my emails, address book, sensitive documents are/were and the I cannot return the desktop to the original state. I've uninstalled the WinStyles, DesktopX, WinBlinds and other programs and deleted the remaining directories from another account, but the primary account is still unusuable. I've been able to copy most of my docs, files, etc to a public folder, but I don't want to delete the primary user as I'll lose my emails and address book. I need big help fast. Thank you!

Erm. If you don't like skinning why on earth are you on a skinning site spreading FUD about Stardock products? And no StyleXP does not do everything Object Desktop can do. It doesn't really do much at all. It hacks a system dll (in memory now but used to hack the file itself) and not a lot else.

And MS could put out a patch any day that would stop it doing that.

Yes, XP uses more memory. It is also a lot more stable and does not have issues with resources getting used up in the same way as 95/98 or ME.

And if you were running those programs just to make XP look different then you are missing the point somewhat. WB, OB, DX are not just about eye candy. It's about adding extra functionality. Also for me it's a great thing to play with.

Im on this site so I could learn a thing or two about skinng. I wanted my PC to look like and work like a mac. Not so sure about it now.

You can make your pc look like whatever you want. Just bear in mind anything to do with mac may have copyright issues. But there's nothing to stop you making a complete mac look for yourself. All it takes is a graphics proggy, which you have, and a little patience plus some skinning knowledge. The only way is to have a go!
