DesktopX crashed my display in XP! I need help recovering.

I tried DesktopX last night with one of the setups found on this site. I decided it was to busy for my tastes and unloaded it. This is when everything went haywire. My screen (for this particular user account) is mostly black except for the few desktop icons I have. I cannot see the Start Button, Quick Launch, or basically anything (and yes the toolbars have been activated). When I right click on the desktop, I only get the option to Refresh, no properties. Big problem is that this account is where my emails, address book, sensitive documents are/were and the I cannot return the desktop to the original state. I've uninstalled the WinStyles, DesktopX, WinBlinds and other programs and deleted the remaining directories from another account, but the primary account is still unusuable. I've been able to copy most of my docs, files, etc to a public folder, but I don't want to delete the primary user as I'll lose my emails and address book. I need big help fast. Thank you!

what the hell is razor art? I'm not from anywhere. I just like this site is all

FWIW,The three finger salute works just fine when the program actually loads itself completely,,if not the Task Manager is a million miles away, having tea with Sting.Good luck getting it's attention.I do indeed like RazorArt but in no way connected to it.Shucks,I'm just a simpleton wanting to click to download then click to apply.Thats why I have given Stardock lots of money.I was hoping someday everything will be as easy to choose and apply as Windowsblinds.

Those clever folks over there at HoverDesk have a very clever way to drag the Zip file directly onto to mainform and it applys instantly. This to me is a very good idea.It would be very nice if we could do that with Sysmetrix.Just a thought.

Here's a thought: ONE CLICK STARDOCK PROGRAMS without DX.
DX is ultra-cool and should not be thown to the Bandwidth Hog yet,,,but as far as the clicks,,,one sounds good to me.Lets even make that a right click just to make the Mac er's mad..

I can really not understand why people always blame stardock software for their wacky systems... I use all alphas and betas from OD since over 3 years now and none of them made me restore or even re-format my harddrive nor re-install windows or gave me any data-loss. Why ? Because they are simply not able to.

Thats not the point c242. For me the point is I don't like running 5 programs (DX, Objectbar, Webblinds, Windowblinds, and Logonstudio) just to do one thing and one thing only, making XP look different. StyleXP does everything those 5 programs do and does it better.

I have used WindowBlinds for years (including many alpha's beta's etc.) and it never hosed my system. If any version gave me trouble at all, I simply rolled back. I played with DX, it did everything they said it would. Then I found Litestep and DX was gone forever, mostly due to overhead issues. StyleXP does none of the things DX does, and its disingenuous to suggest it does. If you play with alpha's and betas expect problems, if you stick with release versions, your alright.

Litestep is not newbie friendly, but it is not hard either. I RTFM, and managed to learn how to use it, never once doing anything to my system that a reboot didn't cure (shell switchers are amazing creatures).

BTW, if you're looking for something like Litestep to work out-of-the-box, it won't be as cheap

As I see from Your answer You don't even know, what those 5 programs are able to do You find StyleXP superior to.Can You create special menus that fit Your needs with it ? Can You make Your system icons zoom when You mouseover them ? Can You do special objects on Your desktop that do exactly what You want them to do ? Can You prevent popup-windows wit it ? (And that is just a small list of the possibilities You have with them.) No. I eagerly await the next MS service pack that makes the hack unusable for an amount of time and all the people that use it whining about MS (which isn't guilty for that).

I have ydock to make my icons zoom when I move my mouse over them. Works awesome. Take a look at my screenshot. See the dock on the top? Works just like a macs. I can and have created special menus. I don't like anything on my desktop except my taskbars. And pop up windows have never happened to me because my ISP blocks them and so does XP. AND BY THE WAY I DID NOT HAVE TO HACK MY WINDOWS .DLL FILES TO GET SYTLEXP TO RUN!!

Ydock is a complete different thing. I meant desktop icons, not icons attached to a bar.
And for the hack : Sure You didn't have to. StyleXP did that for You.
No need to shout, btw.

You guys are so weird. No it did not do it for me. Impossible because I restored the original file.

If weardness is the same as having another opinion, yes.

weirdness as in if someone isn't like you or using what you use to skin with or draw wallpapers with then they are a outcast. For instance: See what happens when someone mentions the word Kazaa.

It is well known that warez related stuff is not tolerated here, so what ?
And the only thing that made me (a little ) upset was Your comparison as it was simply wrong and sounded lite all that arguments people use wrongly. Of course You can use whatever You want to skin Your system.

Oh I'm done skinning my system. Matter of fact I think I will quit using XP and go back to ME. You guys blast anything you don't like but other websites don't. I think I will go play with byrce 5 now and see if I can come up with something of my own and hopefully no one has thought of it before me. Cuz then you all would have a hay day.

Going back to ME ? That is really a bad choice IMHO. But that opinion is based on my own experiences I had with different installations of ME on friends' machines. I will never go back to anything than XP again. If I would have to, my clear choice would be Win2k. Just a tip from a 'blaster'.

You all have no idea. I am microsoft certified but i hate windows. ME treated me better than XP and took up way less memory. And it is hard to skin. Exactly what I want.

If you hate skinning so much why are you still here? Just wondering...

MCSE? Which core exams did you take?

I do IT for a living so I do have an idea - if you don't know your stuff, you don't work
