Apple OS-X Gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

Apple OS-X Gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

Looks like apple didn't appreciate my apple DX theme, it must have been too realistic for theme. Well it’s coming back under a different name, and with minimal reference to apple. Hope it uploads.

why dosen't a person or group of people push apple into making a pc version of os x? that would settle everything plus give windows a run for its money. i would buy it.

Adam. It's not the "design" of the skin as much as it is the design+ the inclusion of the Apple logo.

They also will not come after you. They will come after "Stardock" who owns this site. They have done it before, and they will do it again if there is enough reason to come after us.

As a rule a thumb, the Apple logo should never be included in a skin or theme. I have looked at your "revision" and it still has the Apple logo in it. If the design itself is so good, there is no reason to use that logo.

Do I sense bitterness???

Actually, in all fairness I think WC should get rid of ALL the apple related stuff. Doing so would do away with threads like this (although the 'Where's the apple themes' threads would increase).

Just my POV

and there are more that use copyrighted stuff by Apple. actually about 15-20% of the whole Objectbar section. do you know understand what i meant with double standards.

i don´t care if you leave the up or take them down. it just illustrates nicely how you practice what you preach

Adam, I think that you are taking this in the wrong spirit. Apple seems to have raised an objection to your theme because your theme seems to be the closest to reality. You are giving the junta free, for what Apple has spent a fortune and hence it feels threatened.

I think you should consider that as an achievement. What you seem to be doing, Adam, is providing the other skins, which may or may not be as good as yours, a part of your glory!!! Their day under the sun!!

All I can say is, you should be proud...

Glad to be of help Adam. And continue the good work. And don't criticise WC policies on other sites as far as possible.

It is simply a case of 'enough is enough'.
There are enough Apple clones around as it is, and no more will be accepted because it is just more of the same, in exactly the same way/circumstances as we put a cap on Whistler or XP 'clones'.

It is not 'double standard', in the same way that older walls tended to survive moderation better than the more recent ones.
The 'bar' has been raised'. That is all.

Now, all this spitting and moaning is fanning the flames and will have the unfortunate result of drawing Aple's attention to the whole situation and guess what> Any and every 'Apple-related' skin/theme/wall on any and every site will again be targeted, so then you'll all be happy, as no-one anywhere will be able to obtain any form of Apple 'style', whether older OR newer.

Thar is called 'cutting of your nose to spite your face'.

'thar' = 'that'...'aple' = 'apple'... Spell checker

Adam...re your post #75....bad examples.
Some were using 'apple' the fruit, not 'apple' the company.
Some had actual apples, without the cutout, ergo were again the fruit, not the company logo.

And ALL of them were pre 2003.

That's just a bunch of b.s. There is definitely at least a double standard here. Seems to me that somebody moderated Adam Solley's skin, threw out the excuse that it had the apple logo on it, and then sh-t hit the fan when the practice was questioned. I usually don't do much more than lurk, but I have to put in my two cents here. I gave an example earlier in the thread of a perfect example of an apple copy - why not the same treatment? I think it is time to examine some of the policies. Fair is fair.

bmetelsky....check dates of submissions/approvals...

Remember the phrase 'enough is enough', or just return to lurk-mode...

Read post #83, m'kay?...

Wow Jafo,

"Enough is enough" is really great policy for moderation. I don't feel the need to check the dates of submissions or approvals. How about this policy is spelled out for all to see? Also, I am offended by your suggestion "or just return to lurk mode".

And I'm offended by..."a double standard here. Seems to me that somebody moderated Adam Solley's skin, threw out the excuse that it had the apple logo on it, and then sh-t hit the fan".

Exactly how many ways is there to immitate an OSX GUI?
Why do we need to accept every quality and/or half-arsed copy of exactly the same animal, when if truth be told the graphics all originate elsewhere than the person submitting them?

A port is a port is a port....but like all the other contentious 'ports' before it, OSX ports in particular are of a company who has already not been happy with the practise, but you want us all to keep on accepting more of the same...with graphics, logos and trademarks all ripped from a company that doesn't like it?
I apologize if my statement was offensive. It was not meant to be. I am not disagreeing with the idea that policy might need to change in re. to submissions carrying the apple logo, name, or copied look. I do think that there should be some standard and that the standard should be applied across the board.
It's not a bunch of 'b-s', either.
Yet another upload of an Apple copy turns up and it is requested that it have the trademarks/logos removed. Simple as that.
Why? Because as they said in The Holy Grail..."I told them we already had one".
Must we have yet more?...
It IS applied across the board...as of 'recently'.
In the same way that we said enough was enough with endless XP walls...and endless Whistler or Luna copies/clones...
BTW....Adam Solley's 'theme' is well done, quite authentic [last time I looked at a Mac with OSX].
It was not an issue of 'quality/standard', but one of 'content'.
Needless to say, if the quality was poor we wouldn't be requesting 'amendments', it'd just be deleted/rejected outright...
'Recently' meaning as of the initial date for this thread? Also, no question at all about you, Jafo, applying the policy consistently - are all wizops on the same page?
And, for the record, I was not the only individual here thinking that a double standard was being applied. I accept responsibility for "talking crap" with the whole b.s. note I posted above. I need to tone it down at times.

bmetsky, and everyone else who feels it's necessary to flog this issue. Having Apple type themes on the site makes a lot of people very happy. It's amazing how popular it is and how many people appreciate it when they find one. It's been a violation of various rules to have them here, but maybe, they just got by when we were really busy, or they weren't scrutinized very close, who knows? But yes, there are many that are here, unless somebody wants to make a crusade out of it. Or unless Apple contacts us and asks us to take them down.

How would they know? A thread like this is how they would know. How many people would be pissed that the issue was made so visible that all the Apple stuff was taken away?

Tens of thousands would be my guess.

DavidK,
Nice desktop you have. I am not flogging this issue. I am not interested in making a crusade out of the whole thing, either. I'm really just waiting on a response from Jafo on #95 and I'll be through with it. Thanks for your input.

William...no, it's been since quite a bit before this thread, however it was this thread and the other related one that has brought it to prominence, that's all.

Personally I'm not much of a fan of the Apple look, but I know it's popular, but as with Registered trademarks for any such product, we have to show a reasonable degree of 'restraint' in their use/acceptance.
As I mentioned earlier, Microsoft is extremely unlikely to have any issues with a skinner's use of their imagery, as it's intended to enhance their [Microsoft's] product.
The same cannot be said for several other companies, however...
