Nothing ventured... Nothing gained...

Nothing ventured... Nothing gained...

To whom it may concern,
I was taught that sharing is good and I would like to share the skin I am working on with a victim. OH! I mean a volunteer.
So far everyone I asked has declined so I am asking here.
What I propose is for a collaboration on finishing the skin.
I tried to upload a screen-shot to my profile but it is not taking so sorry no idea is available to base a decision on.
Anyone 1/2 interested email me and I will send either a screen-shot or the skin for further evaluation.

Thank you,
Sally

Jafo further explained to me that photos with filters applied are not acceptable wallpaper.

Also tribute walls are more than often declined except if it is a tribute to a holiday or a politically approved theme.

So after jury deliberations the verdict was reached that the wallpaper now has to serve time as the XP menu back instead of a 2.5mb wall.

Don't trash a WB over a wallpaper that would be ashame.

The email....

Sally...
Wallpapers are moderated...which means that not all are accepted. At the moment, abou 80 to 90 percent are rejected.

As a wallpaper, taking a photo, adding a few filters and submitting it as a wall will rarely if ever be accepted.

I can understand if you 'need' it for the WB skin, whatever....but you can include it with the skin.

Over the year or so, we have had MANY 'tribute' walls relating to 9/11...but virtually none were deemed 'tactful'. Yours at least doesn't have a beheaded eagle bleeding all over a torn US flag with photos of the people jumping/falling....[we DID get one like that]....but as walls go, it's really a 'pic with two filters'....and thus was moderated.

[put it in the skin]

Cheers,
Paul

Thought that is what I said. I did embellish a bit on account I don't believe any tribute walls on the premise of a world changing event would be approved.

Adding 2.5mb to a skin is a lot.

I don't keep emails around so there is no pasting so I have to paraphrase, "Wincustomize only has so much space and needs to be choosy on what walls. to add to the library." What difference if 2.5 mb are one place or another it will still take up space?

This skin has been one problem after the other from the beginning and that is why I feel it should be trashed. Rejection of the wall was just the deciding factor. Negative vibes abound!

Delicious...many people respond in many different ways to the reality that unless there is some form of limitation on the wall section it would totally dominate the remaining 'skin' sections to their detriment.
Wincustomize.com is a 'skinning site', not a 'wallpaper site'.
The difference is that on a 'skinning site' walls are 'just' another skin 'element' and not the raison d'etre.
I haven't seen the skin in question but I'm willing to bet it has more to it than a 'filtered photo'...the subject of which is essentially irrelevant.

Don't feel dissuaded from skinning simply because a submitted wall was less than successful.
I don't know of anyone on this site who has NOT had a wall rejected either here or previously at skinz.org....

Some people even have had blinds rejected, or removed because they were deemed not good enough.

I agree with Jafo on this Sally. I have had walls rejected but I totally understand. Almost anybody with a program can make a wall "meaning being able to size and color" but that does not make art. Next thing you know the site would be filled with cartoon charactors and half naked women.
I had a wall in the background of my last cursor and recieved a bunch of Emails for it.I finally updated to have the wall in the cursor zip. That was flattering enough for me.

And a pretty wall it is Keila. I'am using it now.

Thanks WOM!
I just upload my new cursor and this time included the wall right off the bat. Nothing really special though but it so goes with the cursor.

Making wallpaper has never been anything that interested me so rejection of the wall in itself doesn't bother me.

What does is the fact that it now has to be forced upon everyone that would download the skin and the option to download the wall or not has been taken away.

Not everyone is on cable and having a skin that is almost 3mb would take around 15 min to download. A big factor weather to hit download or not.

That is my main concern

Delicious, I'am on a 56K and have downloaded those big skins. If I like it I'll download it. Doesn't matter the size. My computer time is not that valuable and besides I can do something else till ity's done.

Plus, if the wall in in JPG. form it is not all that big anyway. Actually this is another WOM tip.

Just make sure you do the JPEG at maximum setting.

Thank you, I didn't even think of jpg format. Gosh sometimes the obvious just can't be seen.

However does WB read jpg files if the desk back is set in the skin? One wonders.

I think max setting refers to the option in the save dialog. I believe the default is something like 80 or 90%.

Yes, the walls can be in Jpeg form and they will be read.

Delicious...as I mentioned /suggested in the email, put the wall in with the skin....sorry I forgot to suggest changing format to jpg....[sometimes I just 'assume' others would think of that]...
