But Ryan, we in India consider 101 much, much more auspicious than 100. same goes for 11, 21, 51, 501, 1001, so on and so forth. We do not believe in completion (what you would call round figures) but in a step ahead of that; better than the best, better than perfect.

I don't think that IQ = intelligence. Rather, it is a test of your natural ability to learn.

So, a high IQ just means that you don't have to work as hard to learn things. It does not mean that you are necessarily smarter or more "intelligent". You could have a low IQ and be a Phd, or you could have a high IQ and fail out of school. It's all what you do with it.

I have also met an awful lot of people with a high IQ that have no "common sense" at all. So, it is really just a useless test.

I think you should get your money back
I was going to attempt to do as you suggested, but upon removing the rocks, paper candy cups and paper liner in the bottom of the box.

I happened to find that the Micro$oft EULA was printed inside! It seems that the company is not responsible for anything that does not work, including the dang product ( a Life in this instance ) they provided...

hrmph :/

I knew I should have not put down that box of RedHat flavored Fruit Chews.

Redhat has a limited amount of flavor chews though. I would like to stay with the MS rocks.
You can break more Windows with MS rocks than with any other sort...

Hey, I wonder if they have the theme song to " Pinky and the Brain " playing in the background at board meetings when Bill is going to be a no show for it?

Yes that seems true, just call me David, now where did I put that slingshot down last time I finished with it?

KarmaGirl/ex-JavaBrain > Intelligence is a measurement of the the ability to learn (as in: grasp concepts and patterns and stuff).
Yes, as Craeonics said.
Some people confuse memory and intelligence. But they're two different things. Some people are intelligent and have no memory, and vice versa. Same for knowledge. Intelligence isn't about what you know, but about how you're able to aquire new knowledge.

Also, about IQ and school. It has been said by many psychologists that IQ tests are not yet done quite right and don't measure true intelligence, but intelligence in an ACADEMIC environment. Meaning that people with high IQ will have more facility in school. Of course, success in school isn't only dependant on your ability, but also on your discipline. That fact that you CAN do something doesn't mean you WANT to do it.

Crae, I was using the definition of intelligence as: "Knowledge imparted or acquired, whether by study, research, or experience; general information."

By that definition, you can "become" intelligent with work. An IQ you are born with and will not change.

I guess to state what I was saying a different way- IQ does not mean that you have great knowledge, it just means that you have a great ability to understand and learn.

Well, yes, Karma, but the problem is like I said. Intelligence is not about knowledge, as per your definition.
One needs not to be intelligent to know something. You can basically give knowledge to any monkey through repetition. Repeat 1000 times 2+2=4 to anybody and he'll end up knowing it. But an more intelligent person may need to hear it only once or twice to know it forever.

Your last paragraph basically says that having a high IQ means you are more intelligent (having a great ability to understand and learn).
But as I said previously, I don't quite agree with that either. IQ tests don't cover some more pratical types of intelligence , only the academic kind. For example, intelligence is also about learning from experience (the last time I did this I got hurt, so I won't do it again), about logical thinking and its consequences (if in a recipe, I use 1/2 cup of sugar, 1/2 cup of honey and 1/2 cup of strawberry jam, I'm gonna end up with something really sweet). Intelligence is also about real life situations and dealling with them with success, not just about being able to solve a puzzle on a piece of paper.
IQ test don't measure practical intelligence, only academic intelligence (theory).

/me wonders why the 'H.Q. test' wasn't mentioned...

No, not headquarters... but "Humor Quotient" (he-he)! How would they test you on that? Hmm. I think they would give you a microphone, shove you on stage in front of a rowdy half-drunken crowd and you have to improvise some of your own jokes stand-up material off the cuff! Oh stage fright!

/me thinks Jerry Sienfeld, Ray Romano and many others are comedic geniuses

Hmm. I love c-span and the discovery channel etc. but sometimes I just need a good guffaw.

/me is in a good mood because I have my Happy cat back and he's sleeping sound as a pound (pound of fluffy fur that is). Yayyyyyyyyyy! Now for me to make like the kitten who has me so smitten and catch some zzzzzzzzzzzz

/me will design some (((hug))) emoticons soon and bring them before the WC board for proper evaluation...

*just teasin'*

Hmm, nice test, though with very standardized questions. AND english only. Still its very close on the reults I got from other tests (135 instead of 145 as usual, but well, -10 points for a non-mother tounge isn't too bad).

Visual Mathematician here, I'm wondering why I'm interessted in nearly everything .

How about this test.. "Say your ABCs backwards", "Walk in a straight line", Can you close your eyes and stop on that dime?

I guess intelligence could be measured by answering if one would put their finger into the open flame a second time to see if it still burns?

This ain't fair, cause i'm not a good English speaker and lost points on those word exercises.ANW I got 135.

*snickers* Our analyses indicate that your Intellectual Type is: Visual Mathematician. This means that among other things, you have superior skills in mathematics and spatial reasoning.

I can't buy it. I'm the person who's mind, even after taking it /three/ times and having countless tutors, can't even begin to comprehend 90% of college level algebra for some reason. ^_^

I couldn't get college calculus *at all* until some high school kid (a sophmore) came to my dorm room and in 15 minutes, showed me the light. It was an engineering college too. sheesh.

I'd be too scared of trying college calculus - although I guess I'll have to get beyond that hurdle, since I'm considering going back to school to study civil engineering.

Assuming I can ever get past the freshman algebra hurdle. Kept me from getting a degree 10 years ago!
