Messgeboard..........I hate to complain, but.........

I don't like the changes............. where the hell is the back to msgbrd link? What was wrong with the way it was?
I'm not even gonna mention that it looks tacky.

JamMeister33 - the listed replies for "Msgboard Chatroom Marathon

several posts were deleted out of the middle of the thread just a few days ago, which explains the discrepancy.

Thanks for the info, feline.... and T-Man has already fixed it!

T-Man, I see the same thing as Ryan when using Mozilla 1.2.1 - also, when typing everything is underlined, until I move the cursor out of the message box.

Hey T-Man. I like the new format. I have a website and know how time consuming it all can be to make changes, worse than creating the thing to begin with. Its always hard to adjust to changes, but we all eventually get used to it. Keep up the good work!

and it auto jumps to the last post after entering you comments...sweet...no more pounding on the "page down" button...

And for those who resist change I have put the "Return to Message Board" link back. Though it was always there but just disguised as "Create a Post".

Changes are fine, and I understand the need for changes here, but why is the "Return to Messagebaord" at the top?

This is one classy looking site, most everything looks well thought out.......... except for these new links in the threads.
Sorry for bitching, and moaning...

The only problem I am having is that the read and unread status on some messages does not change. This one, for instance, reads unread and I have opened it several times to change that. Other threads function just fine. That seems odd to me.

Oh WOW.. that explains it. Page 2 of two shows now!

/me wants a blushing icon.

/me and also a "present" icon so I can wish good seasons to everyone!

its kinda wacky... I guess I have to get used to it. Having the names on the lower right corner... I liked the element of surprise too!!

Well, at least we know who posts the 100 message cause it says so right next to your name.

ohhh and look at this, sgow entire thread? next? last? first?

I like the idea of pages for long threads.

crae, how about the "show entire thread" link? just be careful which threads you use it on

I totally agree with Koasati, the "Return to Messagebaord" link should be at the bottom of the thread not the top.

feline seems to miss my (implicit) point. I want to see the entire thread if I haven't read it before. Or the last X posts if I have. I do not wish to have to scroll down first, click on "read entire thread" and then get what I want.

Multiple pages are evil, by the way, 'cause they disturb the flow of the thread. No longer can you scroll up to see what happened before. No longer can you read the whole thing at once, you have to read one segment, click, wait till the next page is loaded and then read on. A website is not a book, there is no need for pages.

Plus, listen to Koasati and Hell Dragon. Having to scroll allll the way up to click on "return to messageboard" is pointless. The link should be where "show entire thread" is now.

By the way, T-Man et al, don't get discouraged by this. Good board design is crucial to its use.

crae, i see what you mean now. the points make sense to me.

however, there is the problem of what to do with longer threads. after a certain point, loading the entire thread becomes unrealistic to impossible on a slow connection.

so i am wondering, what you would suggest then?

"By the way, T-Man et al, don't get discouraged by this. Good board design is crucial to its use. "

I'm not, no worries here. Listening to other peoples suggestions is how we do things around here.

I just haven't had a chance to get back to the messageboard and make any updates.
As soon as I get a chance I will move the return link to the bottom. Also I have been planning on adding an option to where you can display a specific number of replies per page. (its already implemented into the msgboard https://www.wincustomize.com/msgboard.asp?BID=WC&id=85899&maxreplies=5, I just need to implement into the account settings now) And I will look into your suggesting at showing the entire thread if its unread. Should be simple.

actually being new to this function, the browser and such as a registered user. I find it rather sweet. the # thingy is probably a manner in which to keep track of which reply had meaning for one thing, for another it is probably a field in the flat file which is used to pull the information up in the query... I think that it leaves some real options in the future such as that # thingy being a hotlink to reply to the persons replys * threading * so you can branch out on the discusion. This is where it all comes from, I mean yes, the peeps at Stardock do the work and bend their brains, but here is prime teritory for progress. That which comes from without, and within all at the same time, you happen to mention something in a sentance and someone from SDock reads it and BINGO an idea is born.

Soooo... ok, somethings need to be put back, then mention em, but I like this, duno if you thought of it this way, only reason I mentioned it....

Oh by the way S-Dock ??? How about making that nice little bar with the reply on it *static* in the WinCustomizer browser * ? maybe a filter in the 1.02 release that wil handle that?

The thing is, I guess, mmm, coming from no one such as myself...

If you design the site and wincustomizer-browser to intergrate across each other it becomes a fully functional enviornment. Which is your goal I am sure...anyway, shut up iPlural, ok, sorry about that..

Awmygawd, someone's listening to those strange sounds emanating from my throat! The end is nigh! The end is nigh!!

feline > Don't really see the issue with slow connections. Rememeber, I may be on cable, but my average connection speed is around 10 bloody k per s, and I find load times pretty bearable (except that WinCustomize seems to respond slower than most other sites out there, must be because it's busy). To me, long threads are nto really an issue, to you they are, that's why I think it should be user definable.

If you want to try a really slow site, go to DeviantArt....I have broadband and they are so slow loading that it's almost unbearable.

I have cable but according to those determing sites of bandwidth I can go as fast as a T1...and I never go to DA, even with my speeds, I can't bear how slow it is.
I hear ya, Ms. X...
I have a subscription there, since I maintain a gallery on the site, and it is just UNBearably slow sometimes... If you go in late at night it can be very quick though..
