Here's something to think 'bout

Hi.
I am a Hindu and we believe in the cycle of life, that the soul is eternal and keeps getting sent to this world in different world until it attains Nirvana or oneness with its Creator.
I know not many people believe this, but if you did and if you were offered a choice, which form would you take up in the next life (other than human) and why?
Please specify the animal or bird or whatever (like a horse or a peacock instead of saying an animal or a bird)

But the fact still remains that I'd rather be back as an elephant, large enough for others to be mindful of picking up a fight with me, yet peaceful and serene... A true being of peace, the right kind...

I think it's a good question.
You can say verry much about the subject, no offence, but i don't really believe in things like this.
(And if i believe it, i want to come back as human, else i miss the whole wincustomize stuff , i want to know how my skins do after i die! )
I don't have the knowledge to give a good oppinion about religion, but, and DON'T!!!! take this personal, a lot of people believe that religion is a way to make live better. (i don't know the right worths to say this, i am from holland, but i give it a try)

If somebody of your family dies, then the family say: he is going to return, or he goes to heaven. It makes the family less sad, because they believe he is at a good place, where he can enjoy the things after lieve.

In a country in the 3d world, when there is no food, they pray to god for better times, they think god can help them, but a week later they are dead, because of hunger, deseases, or war.

That is just my oppinion, once again, don't take this personal.
like backerstreet already sad: Thin ice.

Dear Styl,
I want to tell u something... If food were 2 provide better lives, then the people in the first world countries would be the happiest of the lot...
But in countries in the so called '3rd world' have more smiling, satisfied faces than in the 'developed' countries.
Maybe religion teaches us to be satisfied with whatever we have...
And yes, it is a way to make life better, but more than that, it is a way to make life meaningful.

Ashu modi, as I'am sure you noticed, I didn't say anything negitive about your beliefs in my early post, just that I couldn't participate. I will say I agree with your above statement that people are generally happier and more at peace if they religion in there lives.

Thats a good point, but I live in europe (holland).
Way back in the 17th 18th century the whole country were catholic.
But now, when there is enough 0f evrything, nobody is catholic or some other religion anymore.

It seems that only in hard times that people bring their beliefs back to the front of their lives. When things are good they seem to forget that part or put it into the background.

Good morning, I just want to say that everyone has the right to their own religious beliefs and they should not be criticized or put down in any way because of what they believe in.

That's basic human nature. When times are good, people are too preoccupied to hoard more: their greed shadows their beliefs. They tend to look towards people that have more than them.
In hard times, on the other hand, people look all around them and see others far worse off and consider themselves blessed. The fog of greed is lifted and they can look into the distance and see the Almighty looking out for them: religion flourishes.
Moral: always look at people who have less than what you have and reduce your wants...

I don't think religion is necessary to be happy. In fact I've seen religion make people miserable.

maybe it happens when people treat religion AS their life and not as a guide on leading their life..

You making a point there slowneasy!

But here is "something else to think about"

No offence to anyone with a religion!
Imagine that there is NO GOD.
The world is created by "the big blast".

Can you imagine how all of these people, (we are talking about miljards of people here) , all these people beliefse in something that dasn't exist.
They pray 1/5 of the day, and there is no god.

Think about that.

Another amusing anekdote:
What if some day a alien space craft lands to earth.
The whole catolic story of the creation of the human is pretty inrelevant then, cause who created the "aliens" ?

But here again and again, no offence.
