Pay for this?

Pay for this?

After jumping through all these hoops - do you actually expect people to pay for this crap?

Get real!

If you like the person or not, e-mail bombs are nothing to smile about. They can, CAN bring nothing but nasty things to people and sites. I have seen first hand what a bomb can do to a site, it took three days/nights to fix it.

Until this thread I had never heard of "email bombs". Sounds a little extreme.

I guess my Norton Antivirus or Norton Internet Security is useless against such attacks. Now that I know about these, how do I guard against them? Is there even a way?

I thought that my exiling JAFO2 as promptly as I had would have saved him from spamming due to his comments.
As with spamming rippers, it doesn't achieve anything but to lower one's self to the level of the miscreant, so whoever did the 'bombing' would be better served to desist.

theory....

how come the people who start these threads never have a skin that they designed on there account?

And this "email bomb" doesn't sound to nice. And it sounds like a good way to get in trouble.

BTW:
has there been allot of problems with the 100mb limit download? IMHO I thought it was too low to really experience the site. Some skins are large in size and before you know it you have 100mb. I think it should be 200mb so the people who are exploring can really explore.

100 mb! Thats about 70 wallpapers or 300 windowblinds or 70 logons, a ton of object bars, about 40 winstyles. I think 100mg is about right. How many times does a person get in line at a store for the free samples before the clerk says thats enough?
I don't Joe, 100 megs is quite a bit. Especially when you are talking about someone who has not even contributed or bought the programs! It might be different if skins and themes were only found on this site.
I checked my stats, you can find out by clicking on you own name. I have sucked 320 megs and I have been here almost from the start. But then again I have 3 t-shirts, a CD, OD subsrciption, a renewal, and a WC subscription! Does it really hurt to give back a little...

I guess. 70 wallpapers is allot. But what if the downloader was tasting bits here and there? 20 wallpapers, 100 windowblinds, 5 objectbars, 10 winstlyes and so on.....

Well... just a thought....

Thanks again Bill. I didn't realize that that stat was there. Is it a new addition?
I dunno. 100 meg seems reasonable. I've been around here since nearly day 1 and have sucked down 220 meg and I download like a fiend, including multiple downloads of the same items
And like Bill I bought some CDs, subscribed to OD for 2+ years and so on...

I guess I'm different. when I first started here like a few months ago I think I fell in love with skins and downloaded like crazy. But then again the only reason I found out about this site was because I bought windowblinds. then I bought the update and got the object desktop subscription.

yeah, it did happen that way.... for some reason I thought I ssaw the site first and then bought some "stuffs" from wincust.

interesting........

I think it is new since the WC subscription started.

Before anyone starts in on me, I put that in about the stuff I purchased becasue I just got the email about the new browser version and it tells you your entire WC / SD history. Then I think about this guy (up top) who can not even contribute in the slightest and a free lunch is not enough, he wants the whole buffet. Just gets under my skin that's all.

yeah... I guess a hundred megabytes should be the limit. I still think it could be higher but I really think that if a person is downloading that much they shouldn't be that angry about being asked to contribute. There are other places to download this "stuffs" so if you reached your limit here and if contributing will be a problem, try to understand what this site is trying to do for it's customers (who pay) as well and move on. (Just to find out that if you take the time to look at the "save to my computer" screen that your still downloading from wincust, just from a different site)

I still find it interesting that those who start these threads have nothing as far as submissions.

intriguing......

Well I can understand where you're coming from. Before there was less "stuff" to download. Now, there's DesktopX, ObjectBar, WinStyles among others.

As for your theory about the original poster, it always seems these type of things (whether it be web boards, usenet postings) come about from some guy popping out of nowhere, issuing some vague, incoherent, rude proclamation, then goes running back to the hills, never to be seen or heard from again.

I've only downloaded a little more than a 100 megs total in all the time I've been here. 100 megs is a lot.
/me is User ID 23....and a grand total of 47 meg....and that takes in all the submissions I DL to check.....[maybe not]...but certainly not a lot for someone here since Day One...
UserID:: 163 (even though I signed up on day one... or the monday after the weekend if it opened up during the weekend)
Bytes downloaded: 0 k (you can see I am a heavy user)

User ID 34 and ~24 MB. But I'm a snob.

also, when talking about the dl limit, i think it's really important to remember that buying something isn't the only way to contribute. take crae for instance - he contributes so much in other ways that his access level is up there enough to let him dl with no limit.

i think it's ok that someone would be coming here dl'ing stuff from the time we went online, and never take part in the site enough to even get to apprentice. but if that's how they do it, they don't really have much room to gripe about things.

Ok, being the newbie here, I will ask. A few of you keep mentioning "contributing" and i think I read back up there somewhere ( not sure so dont quote me on it ) someone mention "These people never have a skin they designed on their account". Well, as for myself, I have no idea how and when I tried using a program to help me do it, I didn't understand it. I wish I could make as beautiful things as I download, but please don't hold it against me that I can't. As for the mail bomb, wow that was extreme, he was just expressing his opinion and hurting noone. I really don't think he did anything wrong, except maybe show his mentality. But we are all entitled to our opinions, but I did get a few laughs from some of the responses.

AngelEyez, don't feel bad about that. You don't have to be a skinner to partipate here. I'm not.

Chris,

If look at the wincustomize store. If you are interested in the Skinners T-Shirts it is available up to 3X sizes.
AngelEyez, you ARE contributing. You are posting messages and asking questions. The vast majority of people visiting the site on a regular basis don't say a word. So don't feel bad. Download all you want - that's why skinners post their skins, for people to use. They don't expect anything from you in return (well, maybe a few words of encouragement on the comments page).

As for making skins, I've been with wincustomize since the start, and only now am I contibuting skins. Like you I didn't understand the program, I also couldn't design anything. Some of my skins are now almost worthy, most are useless. It take time to learn even the basics, but have a go, it's fun. If you end up finding skinning isn't for you, that's ok too; as long as you are getting pleasure from the skins you download, that's what its all about. Oh, and keep asking those questions...
